The Eurovision participation fee is going up for another year!

In an interview with Eirevision, Michael Kealy, the head of the Irish delegation for the Eurovision Song Contest, disclosed that the participation fee will rise for another year.

To be eligible to compete in the competition, the national broadcasters must pay a fee annually. This amount varies between countries primarily as a result of differences in population but also due to economic factors. According to the announcement made during the September meeting of the participating countries’ heads of delegation in Berlin, this cost is expected to increase once more this year.

The EBU cites the competition’s “not economically viable” condition as the cause of this increase. The aforementioned matter emerged subsequent to Belarus and Russia’s disqualifications from the EBU. Russia was one of the countries that contributed the most financially to the contest due to its big population and robust economy. Therefore, the other participating countries should now pay this amount.

This expense accounts for one-third of the funding that Ireland’s public television broadcaster has available for the competition, as the leader of the Irish delegation stated. This sum climbed to €105,099 in 2023 from €92,588 in 2022. This amount was €180,000 for Romania in 2023 and €347,697 for Spain in the same year.

Loreen: Music video clip of Loreen’s brand new single “Is it Love” is out now! | Watch it here!

A few days after Loreen made her first step, post-Eurovision, by releasing her first single called “Is it Lovefrom her upcoming album, the music video of the song just got released on YouTube!

Loreen says about “Is it Love“:

“Is It Love” was born from a place of seeking clarity, it’s a song describing and contemplating a love that’s so deep but at the same time filled with confusion. It’s about realising that to create a deeper understanding of yourself you need to accept the duality of life, that distortion and clarity goes hand in hand and are equally as important. And to experience the depth of true love, both to the self as well as to others, you have to accept and experience the depth of pain.”

As a leading female diaspora artist, Loreen’s Moroccan Berber roots are embedded in her new cinematic pop sound now more than ever and flits between cultures. All this essence is obvious in the music video as well!

Norway: Are Keiino hinting their return? | “Nu kör vi” with Norway or with Sweden?

Lots of Eurovision fans are eagerly hoping for them to come back at the contest. But has the time just come?

But what could this mean? Is this a reference at them taking part in Melodifestivalen 2024, or they are referencing a potential participation at MGP 2024, which could potentially let them represent Norway in Malmö, Sweden?

Time will tell.

Who are KEiiNO?

KEiiNO is a Norwegian supergroup consisting of Sámi rapper Fred Buljo and singers Alexandra Rotan and Tom Hugo. The group was created in late 2018 in preparation for their participation in Melodi Grand Prix 2019, which they won and so were selected to represent Norway with the song “Spirit in the Sky” in the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, finishing in sixth place, even though they placed first in the televoting results.

On 11 January 2021, it was announced that KEiiNO would participate in the Melodi Grand Prix 2021 final with the pre-qualified song “Monument“. The song was released at midnight on 15 January 2021 with the group’s debut performance of the song during the first heat of Melodi Grand Prix 2021 on 16 January 2021. The song reached the top four in the final on 20 February 2021, eventually reaching the gold duel, but lost to Tix‘s “Fallen Angel“.

Do you think KEiiNO could be selected to represent Norway for a second time? Let us know in the comment section below.
