United Kingdom: Lana Del Rey, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Nile Rodgers and Leigh-Anne Pinnock join Tap Music’s team for Turin!

After a series of disappointing results, the United Kingdom has decided to change its Eurovision’s approach. Europe’s largest music industry has decided to recruit some of its top names for the selection of its representative at Eurovision 2022.

As it became known in October, the BBC and Tap Music would join forces to make the best possible choice for the UK representative in Turin.

Dua Lipa, Sir Elton John and Mel C. gave a “vote of confidence” to the project. Three months later, four more names are added to the selection process for the UK’s representative at the 66th Eurovision Song Contest. They are Lana Del Rey, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Nile Rodgers and Leigh-Anne Pinnock.

Speaking about this project, Lana Del Rey said:

Ben and Ed have always liked a challenge, proud of them for taking this on…and I’ll be wishing them and the UK the best of luck on the night. The UK was my home in the early days of meeting Ben and Ed so I have a special affinity.

Moreover, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, a former competitor in our favorite competition, commented:

The Eurovision Song Contest was originally meant to be a celebration of songs and songwriters. I’m glad Tap have the desire to follow in this path and I really hope this year the British entry rediscovers those basics, and we find a great British song delivered by a Great British singer.

Nile Rodgers also spoke about his involvement in the search for the UK representative:

Merck and I are both excited that our friends at Tap are getting serious about a real Eurovision effort for the UK. Eurovision is a massive global institution that means so much to so many people around the world and there’s no reason not to have a good UK entry that’s as soon as the pop dominance it delivers to the world daily. It was wonderful to see Maneskin win last year and become a global success story and it’s now time for the UK to once again make its best effort by bringing the very best song possible to the globe.

Speaking about her involvement, Leigh-Anne Pinnock concluded:

I love the fact that my managers are involved in finding this year’s act to represent the U.K., I know they will choose an act that will make the U.K. proud. European fans have always given Little Mix so much love, so I’m calling on all mixers to get behind the UK at Eurovision this year!

In the press release of Tap Music, its leading executive, Ben Mawson, stated that the preparations for the selection of the British participation in Eurovision 2022 are in the final stretch and that everything is going well so far:

We’re getting really close to making our final decision, we have lots of options and have been pleasantly surprised by how many wonderful artists, both new and more established want to be part of this process with us. Like us, they recognise that Eurovision is the biggest music TV opportunity in the world. It’s a tough decision with so many strong contenders, many with existing European fanbases, which is exciting. When we decide on the act, we will put an incredible team around the chosen act and look forward to sharing news shortly.

It remains to be seen whether the much-anticipated venture of the BBC and Tap Music will have an impact and the UK will return to positive results after its continued failures in the competition.

United Kingdom: ABBA keen to write UK’s Eurovision entry and end years of failure!

ABBA has said it is keen to help end the UK’s years of Eurovision hurt and pen a song for the country that came a humiliating last in this year’s contest.

The Swedish group – which comprises of Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – said they would be happy to write a song for the UK to use in 2022 if it was for the right artist.

It comes as the group released their first album, Voyage, after almost 40 years. The group have said it will be their last.

Speaking to the BBC Radio 4 Today programme on Friday, Ulvaeus and Andersson said they would step in to help – if the right act was picked for the job.

They said: “What is the risk? You can’t be worst than last. But it needs to be a really good act [who performs] – like Dua Lipa.”

It comes as the BBC confirmed that Dua Lipa’s music management company will help pick the UK’s next Eurovision entry.

TaP music will select the UK’s entry for the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest. The company – which also represents Ellie Goulding, Hailee Steinfeld and Lana Del Rey – will work with the BBC. The broadcaster will work with the company to make the selection.

It comes after the UK came bottom place at Eurovision 2021. James Newman failed to score a single point with his song, Embers, earlier this year.

No UK entrant has made the top 10 since Jade Ewen in 2009.

TaP has called on the UK music industry to put forward “experienced live performers” for consideration. The single wil be released commercially after the competition.

UK: Sarah Dawn Finer would love to represent the country at Eurovision 2021!

Although Sarah Dawn Finer has not been able to represent Sweden, in all the attempts she made at the Melodifestivalen, she has associated herself with the Eurovision Song Contest, as few artists in her country. Now, with a post on Twitter, she publicly expresses her interest in representing her father’s homeland at Eurovision 2021, the United Kingdom!

Sarah Dawn Finner, 39, has participated twice in the Melodifestivalen and has presented it three times. Eurovision fans literally adored her as Lynda Woodruff, at Eurovision 2013 and 2016 held in Sweden, with her humorous videos going viral.

In a Twitter post, Sarah Dawn Finner, who has a British father and an American mother, but was born and raised in Sweden, making a remarkable music and television career there, says she is now ready to represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision 2021.

At the same time, again on Twitter, she rules out participating in Melodifestivalen 2021, while she also denies the posts of the previous days that wanted her to participate, even as a composer.

Eurostars: Maruv: “I received a proposal from BBC to represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision 2020”

In a recent interview, Maruv, winner of this year’s Ukrainian national final Vidbir, but ultimately did not represent her country at the contest, revealed that she had accepted a BBC proposal to represent the United Kingdom at Eurovision 2020.

The time of withdrawal

Many of you may remember that Maruv with “Siren Song” won the national selection, Vidbir 2019, but did not travel to Tel Aviv as she did not agree to cancel her appearances in Russia, but to accept a number of other conditions set by the public Ukrainian broadcaster. Subsequently, the country’s public television began reaching out to the other Vidbir 2019 candidates in order to find the country’s representative, but without success.

Finally, Ukraine announced its withdrawal from Eurovision 2019 in Tel Aviv. UA CEO: PBC Zurab Alasania officially announced Ukraine’s withdrawal from Eurovision 2019 through its official Facebook account on February 27.

Is the UK calling on Maruv?

For Eurovision 2020, BBC has announced that BMG will select both the artist and the song to represent the UK, hoping to finally get out of the final standings.

According to what Maruv said in an interview on November 22, the United Kingdom has proposed her to represent the country at Eurovision 2020 either by hertself or simply by sending her own song to another performer.

In the following video after 13:20 (in Russian):

She herself, of course, at the MTV Awards, had rejected any possible new entry into the Eurovision competition. As she typically stated, she would only appear again in the competition as a guest!

“I wanted it too, but that is life. Now I have other desires and other dreams, and I wish one day to go to Eurovision, but only as a guest. I would love this. But not of the time”

Ukraine for 2020 has decided to include in its Vidbir regulations that artists who have performed in Russia or Crimea after the dramatic events of 2014 are banned.

Let’s remember Maruv’s performance at Vidbir 2019:
