Sweden: Melodifestivalen 2024 final had the worst TV ratings in history!

The Final of Melodifestivalen 2024, was broadcast by SVT and SVT Play last Saturday. We now know that Marcus & Martinus will represent Sweden at Eurovision Song Contest 2024 to be held in Malmö, Sweden. The song “Unforgettable“ placed first in both the International Jury and the Public Vote!

A few days after the grand finale of the contest, MMS has learned the latest audience data for this year’s edition of Melodifestivalen 2024.

The final of Melodifestivalen 2024 was watched by an average of 2.786.000 spectators in its 122-minute duration. In terms of audience share, the grand final swept the board again reaching a very high 72.43%.

Compared to the 2023 edition, the final of the contest lost 633.000 spectators and 10.42 points in audience share (in 2023 the final was seen by 3.419.000 spectators and an 82.85% share of the screen ).

Historically, it is the worst audience ratings in terms of spectators of a Melodifestivalen finale since audiences began to be measured in 1994. It is important to note at this point in the analysis that the decline in the consumption of linear television in favour of platforms has a lot of weight in this decrease in viewers and increase in share that has been happening for several years in Melodifestivalen and Swedish television.

Sweden: These are the winners of Melodifestivalen 2024! | Next stop, Malmö!

The Final Show of Melodifestivalen 2024 has just ended and we now have a winner! Marcus & Martinus are the winner of this year’s Swedish national selection that took place at Friends Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.

The experts

New in Melodifestivalen this year is the participation of a couple of really knowledgeable music and Mello-experts – radio and TV profile Tina Mehrafzoon and Mello-oracle Ronny Larsson. During both the races and the final, they analyze the evening’s line-up and give their opinion on how they are doing.

The show

Carina Berg is the host of all the shows of the tour this year! With the next show of the contest taking place tomorrow in Stockholm on the 9th of March.

The show started with the final contestants covering last year’s winning entry “Tattoo” and ended with Loreen appearing on stage to get awarded with the Hall of Fame award. This year’s Hall of Fame is now complete when the entire team behind the winning entry “Tattoo joined – Loreen and the entire songwriting team. In addition to Loreen herself, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Jimmy Jansson, Loreen, Moa Carlebecker/Cazzi Opeia, Peter Boström and Thomas G:son were rewarded.

The numbers

  • When I’m Gone“ – Maria Sur

Maria did an amazing show today, more laser beams and more laser tracking sensors on the LED backdrop and the LED strip perimetrically at the stadium. Great job! Amazing vocals and also awed us with the intro video where she spoke entirely in Swedish! Bra jobbat!

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Back To My Roots” – Jay Smith’

Well this is the upgraded version of Jay giving zero f*s about this contest. Nice radio-friendly song, but nothing more.

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Awful Liar“ – Lisa Ajax

Lisa had an amazing performance, she now had both dancers unlike her first rehearsals. Pristine voice.

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Heroes Are Calling“ – Smash Into Pieces

As the days go by, their song makes not much of a difference to me. I preferred their song last year.

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Give My Heart A Break” – Cazzi Opeia

Cazzi is such a feel-good song! Makes me happy even on a day I am down low. The colours, the glow, the fluff! Love it all! Her voice? Pitch-perfect!

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Light” – Annika Wickihalder

Annika had an amazing stage show, added a chorus on stage. Great voice, I absolutely like this!

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Unforgettable” – Marcus & Martinus

Captivating performance! No more comments. This is my winner.

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • It’s Not Easy to Write a Love Song” – Dotter

Dotter still has problems from two weeks ago and this has implications to her voice! Such a shame! Visually it is so good.

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Que Sera” – Medina

That was an EARTHQUAKE! I can’t describe anything more! Love it!

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Dragon“ – Liamoo

So much fire, we could all feel the heat! Best vocals of the bunch I think, even better than the studio version. Great vocals by LIAMOO and his lead dub!

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Effortless“ – Jacqline

She ate! Looks like a music video up on stage! I think the international juries will absolutely love her! She was unwell, but does a great job at the moment! Runner-up of Idol 2021 is here and now is her moment to shine!

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Happy That You Found Me” – Danny Saucedo

Danny changed to a black mesh top and a leather pair of trousers. Staging colours changed, lighting has changed, made it a bit more dark, more spiritual. I like it more.

Sweden: These are the two final qualifiers of Melodifestivalen 2024!

Immediately after the round has ended, the final qualifiers show began. Two more finalists have been selected and two have been voted on to the qualifiers, along with the season’s other 3rd and 4th placed teams and it is clear now that the two final qualifiers of Melodifestivalen 2024 are Annika Wickihalder and Jay Smith.

Here’s how the two last finalists were determined

Once both finalists in heat 5 have been chosen, the ten entries placed third and fourth in the five Rounds will return to compete for the two remaining final spots. This takes place in a final qualifier through an extension of round 5. An extended quick replay of the ten qualifiers will be shown, and viewers can vote up to five times per entry in the app and per phone number.

Each entry receives an initial score based on how many votes they received in their competition – in relation to how many people voted in it. For example, an entry that has received 1,000,000 votes in a contest where 500,000 people have voted will have a value of 2. If another entry has also received 1000,000 votes but only 400,000 votes in that sub-competition, that entry will have a value of 2.5 and thus receive a higher initial score in the final qualification compared to the first entry.

This initial score is reported first. After that, the qualifying voting starts and it is then possible to vote via app and phone. Once voting has ended, an additional 1000 points will be awarded based on the number of votes per entry. The points are awarded in exactly the same way as in the final: The entry with the fewest points before the voting will have their new points reported first. When all points have been reported, the two entries with the highest number of final points will move on to the final.

In the event of the same final score for two or more entries, the highest number of votes during the voting that took place during the broadcast will be decisive.

Final Qualifiers

  • Forever Yours“ – Elisa Lindström
  • Supernatural“ – Adam Woods
  • The Silence After You“ – Dear Sara
  • Unga & fria“ – Fröken Snusk
  • I Won’t Shake (La La Gunilla)” – Gunilla Persson
  • För dig” – Klaudy
  • Done Getting Over You” – Albin Tingwall

  • Back To My Roots” – Jay Smith

Sweden: Marcus & Martinus dethrone Danny Saucedo!

Αlmost a week has passed from the press conference that SVT organized, in order to announce the contestants of Melodifestivalen 2024 and a few days later the first betting odds started to spring up.

It seems like the betting scene has changed a lot over the last few days and now Marcus & Martinus are in the lead, literally dethroning Danny Saucedo. It is too early to jump into conclusions, but for now winning Melodifestivalen 2024 is apparently a game for two

The odds

Currently, in the first place of the betting odds are the Norwegian twins Marcus & Martinus Gunnarsen who took part in Melodifestivalen 2023 and placed second after Loreen won for the second time with the song “Tattoo. Their song is called “Unforgettable and it is written by Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, the successful writer duo Joy and Linnea Deb and the artists themselves.

Second to Marcus and Martinus is Danny Saucedo, who apparently has the right song for an impactful comeback at Melodifestivalen 2024. This will be his fifth participation in Melodifestivalen.

His song Happy That You Found Me” was written by Kristoffer Fogelmark, John Martin and Michel Zitron. The latter was involved in the production of two global music hits, Don’t you worry child and Save the world” of Swedish House Mafia and has also collaborated with artists like Avicii and Alesso.

We still got long way to go till we know the actual winner of Melodifestivalen 2024, but if the current betting odds come true, then the history will repeat itself and we will experience a 2011 and 2012 deja vu, when Danny Saucedo placed second to Eric Saade and Loreen respectively! Till then, hold on tight! There are still almost two months to go!

The betting odds depend on many factors and as these factors are subject to changes anytime, the odds can still fluctuate, even last minute.

Let’s see what is going to happen, when we will get the chance to watch the actual shows live, on SVT and SVT Play. Of course at EurovisionFun will be there accredited and you will get the chance to be informed about the results as soon as they are announced on TV!

Melodifestivalen 2024 is scheduled to take place between February 3rd to March 9th, and next year’s 30 competing songs were selected by SVT among 2624 songs.

The schedule for the six shows of the Melodifestivalen 2024 tour

  • Heat 1: Saturday 3 February 2024, Malmö Arena, Malmö
  • Heat 2: Saturday 10 February 2024, Scandinavium, Göteborg
  • Heat 3: Saturday 17 February 2024, Vida Arena, Växjö
  • Heat 4: Saturday 24 February 2024, Stiga Sports Arena, Eskiltuna
  • Heat 5: Saturday 2 March 2024, Löfbergs Arena, Karlstad
  • Final: Saturday 9 March 2024, Friends Arena, Stockholm – Solna

The winner of Melodifestivalen 2023 and hence the Swedish representative at Eurovision 2023 was Loreen with her song “Tattoo“. Loreen went on to become the first female artist in history to win the Eurovision Song Contest twice.

Sweden: Last Aftonbladet reveal, a day before the official SVT announcement!

EurovisionFun is currently in Stockholm, a day before the scheduled press conference when SVT will reveal the Melodifestivalen 2024 artists, their songs and the heat allocation, while Torbjörn Ek and Stina Dahlgren, reporters at Aftonbladet work hard at the newsroom of Aftonbladet and add up a few more names in the line-up of Melodifestivalen 2024, for one last time!

We remind you that last year, Aftonbladet revealed 24 out of the 28 acts of Melodifestivalen 2023, even before SVT announced the line-up officially. Let’s dive in to what they have revealed for us, in their just-published article:

Who is Lia Larsson?

Lia Larsson, 22, is the Tiktok star from Mora who has had EPA dunk success during the year and had her music streamed almost 30 million times, with songs such as “Banka banka” and “Fara ner på byn“. According to what Aftonbladet has learned, she also takes the opportunity to celebrate her Melodifestivalen participation by releasing a new single on the same day as the press conference is held.

Who is Klaudy?

Also ready for Melodifestivalen is William Schenberg, 24, from Tolered in Gothenburg. Under the artist name Klaudy, he participated earlier this year in SVT’s music initiative “Songland” and wrote a song together with the artist Cherrie.

Who is Annika Wickihalder?

Annika Wickihalder, 22, from Örnsköldsvik has also been given a place in next year’s Melodifestivalen. In 2021, she made it to the semi-finals of TV4‘s talent show “Idol“. As Aftonbladet previously revealed, Jacqline Moss, 23, who knocked out Annika in “Idol” will also compete in Mello. Now they both get another chance to compete for viewers’ votes.

Who is Melina Borglowe?

Melina Borglowe, 26, is the singer-songwriter from Växjö who has been signed by the small record company Ten, which has previously achieved success in Melodifestivalen with artists such as Benjamin Ingrosso, Felix Sandman and Bishara. Now, according to Aftonbladet‘s sources, it’s Melina‘s turn to take place in Sweden‘s biggest TV program.

Who is Natalie Carrion?

Finally, Aftonbladet can reveal that Natalie Carrion, 27, from Umeå, will also compete. Natalie, with Caribbean and Sami roots, has several times before been close to joining Mello and competed in 2022 in the sámi Melodifestivalen Sámi Grand Prix. Earlier this year, she was a Swedish commentator when SVT broadcast this year’s edition of the same competition.

We remind you that Melodifestivalen 2024 is scheduled to take place between February 3rd to March 9th, while SVT has received 2624 songs.

Stay tuned at EurovisionFun tomorrow at 11:00 CET when the final list of Melodifestivalen participants will be announced by SVT at a press conference hosted at their headquarters in Stockholm.

Sweden: Danny Saucedo is back at Melodifestivalen, according to Aftonbladet!

Torbjörn Ek and Stina Dahlgren, reporters at Aftonbladet did it again and revealed six more participating acts for Melodifestivalen 2024! We remind you that last year, Aftonbladet revealed 24 out of the 28 acts of Melodifestivalen 2023, even before SVT announced the line-up officially.

As we are approaching December 1, when the final line-up of Melodifestivalen 2024 will be revealed, the Aftonbladet is now nearing 30 acts! Here are the three new names that Aftonbladet brought to the table:

Danny Saucedo

Danny Saucedo, 37, hopes to return to the mainstream Swedish music scene by participating in Melodifestivalen in 2024, according to several sources that Aftonbladet has been in contact with, as he hasn’t made a major success with his latest releases.

The source said he knows he’s gambling by going to Melodifestivalen, he has to have a really strong song and make sure he gets a hit, therefore, the information that reached Aftonbladet in the late autumn has swayed back and forth. Several people who work closely with Melodifestivalen‘s editorial staff have speculated about Danny‘s participation, but now he is said to have finally accepted. Saucedo is said to have collaborated together with Michel Zitron, 42, who has previously been involved in Swedish House Mafia‘s “Don’t you worry child” and “Save the world” and worked with both Avicii and Alesso. The collaboration will also be a bit of a reunion as Zitron was also behind one of Saucedo‘s very first hits, “If Only You” which was the most played song on Swedish radio in 2008.

Elisa Lindström

Aftonbladet can also reveal that Elisa Lindström, 32, is ready for Melodifestivalen 2024. Lindström, who is currently playing one of the main roles in the schlager musical “De’ e’ det här vi kallar kärlek” based on Lasse Holm‘s music, has competed twice before, but without succeeding in advancing from the competitions. Now it could be third time’s the charm.

C-Joe

According to several sources with insight into the matter, the artist C-Joe, or Charles Koroma, 31, as his real name is, will also compete in Melodifestivalen.
