Maruv: “I would go to Eurovision but only as a guest”

During the 26th MTV Europe Music Awards in Seville, Spain, Maruv gave a brief interview about her career and her desire to be on the Eurovision stage or not.

“I wanted it too, but that is life. Now I have other desires and other dreams, and I wish one day to go to Eurovision, but only as a guest. I would love this. But not this year”

(Maruv, MTV Europe Music Awards 2019)

After an unpredictable, and perhaps the most talked-about national final of this season, Maruv crowned Vidbir 2019 winner and got the ticket to represent Ukraine at the Eurovision contest  in Tel Aviv. However, her origins and relations with Russia deprived her of the right to travel to Israel, and eventually the country withdrew from the competition.

Despite the fact, Maruv has achieved great success and has been named best singer in Russia at the awards. You can watch the interview by clicking here.

Eurovision 2020: OG3NE want to join as an interval act in Rotterdam

OG3NE, who represented the Netherlands at Eurovision 2017 and Junior Eurovision 2007, both times winning the 11th place, spoke to the Dutch press, expressing a desire to participate in the 65th Eurovision Song Contest, not as contestants, but as an interval act.

The three sisters remain beloved, both by the Dutch and by foreign audiences, continuing their journey in the country’s music field. They are particularly fond of eurofans and would like to return to the contest stage, singing either alone or with other former Dutch representatives in an interval act.

“We would be very happy if we could show up at Ahoy, as we see that all the fans of the contest say they would have liked it, but we haven’t heard anything from the contest yet”

OG3NE considers it unlikely that the Netherlands will be able to achieve a second consecutive victory, believing that an unknown artist or someone who is now taking his first steps would be easier to accept to represent their country at the May competition. in Rotterdam, since he wouldn’t risk anything.

Albania: International Jury for FiK 58|EXCLUSIVE

Albanian public broadcaster, RTSH, prepares for the Festivali i Kenges 58 in Tirana on December 19, 20 and 22 as the winner will represent Albania at the 65th Eurovision Song Contest in May in Rotterdam. The innovation in the regulations compared to previous years is that this year the results will also be determined by an international committee, which has already invited important personalities to staff it.

International panel for the first time at Festivali i Kenges

On December 22, we will probably have the first Eurovision 2020 entry. Probably not, as there were times in the past that the FiK winner did not subsequently participate in Eurovision with the song he won at the Albanian festival, but with another which considered to be better (see Elhaida Dani, 2015).

The results at Festivali i Kenges with some minor variations are determined each year by a special jury comprising people from the home music scene. This year, RTSH, having managed to get very popular contestants, decided to have an international jury.

A well known Greek author has been invited to the international committee of FiK 58

EurovisionFun reveals for the first time that among those invited by RTSH to the international committee, it is a well-known Greek creator. Of course the problem for everyone are the dates (very close to Christmas) and the fact that the Festival lasts four days.

We will be watching with interest FiK 58, which this year includes the most popular names in the Albanian music scene.

The 20 candidates for the Festivali i Kenges to claim the Rotterdam ticket are:

1. Albrei Hadergjonaj
2. Aldo White
3. Arilena Ara
4. Bojken Lako
5. Devis Xherah
6. Eli Fara & Stress
7. Elvana Gjata
8. The Era of Russia
9. Gena
10. Genc Tukiqi
11. Kanita Suma
12. Kamela Islamaj
13. Castro Zizo
14. Olta Boka
15. Renis Gjoka
16. Robert Berisha
17. Sara Bajraktari
18. Tiri Gjoci
19. Valon Shehu
20. Wendi Mancaku

Elvana Gjata, a successful singer in her home country, Arilena Ara who has become famous  with the song “Nentori”, as well as Olta Boka who represented her country at Eurovision 2008, taking the seventeenth place!

This year in Tel Aviv, Jonida Maliqi with “Ktheju Land”, the song she won at FiK 2018, brought Albania to the final, finishing 17th with 90 points.

Eurovision 2020: From Queen’s lover, presenter of the Eurovision Contest

We are talking, of course, for the actror-musician, Michiel Huisman, who was in the casting of HBO Games of Thrones, playing Daario Naharis’s (Daenerys) lover . The Dutch actor is one of the favorites to be one of the three Eurovision 2020 presenters in Rotterdam in May.

From Game of Thrones presenter of Eurovision 2020?

The producer of the 65th Eurovision Song Contest, Sietse Bakker, in a recent television interview, revealed that there will be three presenters. Being asked for Michiel Huisman, he replied:

“Huisman is a good name! Who knows …”

(Sietse Bakker, to see Michiel Huisman presenter at Eurovision 2020)

We already know from the commentator of the Dutch broadcast, but also from a member of the selection committee of the country, Cornald Maas, that the show will feature two men and one woman, who have been selected! Of course so far no announcements have been made by the organizers so all scenarios are possible.

Who is Michiel Huisman?

Michiel Huisman, 38, is a Dutch actor and musician. He has starred in international productions, such as in the movie “Wild” or the series “The Haunting of Hill House”. But he became widely known through Game of Thrones, playing Daario Naharis, one of Queen Daenerys’s generals, who in the process became her fiery lover.

He was a guitarist and singer for the band Fontane, with which he released three singles in the 2001-2003 period. In 2004 the band broke up and Huisman pursued a solo career, releasing in the following years, an album and two singles.

In recent years he has devoted himself to acting, freezing himself, as he declared, his career in music.

Finland: The country decides on March 7th through UMK

Finland’s public broadcaster, YLE, yesterday announced that the country’s selection for Eurovision 2020 will take place on March 7, through UMK 2020 of course.

Unlike what has happened in the last two years, Finland is returning to the open option.

From now on, one week, until November 7, interested parties can submit their entries online using the official UMK 2020 website.

Each artist can submit as many entries as he / she wishes, but only one is allowed to participate in the UMK 2020 finals. Foreign artists, as well as performers, are permitted, as long as there is at least one Finnish artist and one Finnish performer in each song’ s conduction (a Finnish national or a permanent resident).

The finalists will be announced on January 21st. On the same day, the committee chosen by them will be unveiled. UMO 2020 will consist of one night only and no tickets will be sold. For the first time, UMK will not take place in Helsinki, but in Finland’s second largest city, Tampere.”

The last time Finland selected its representative with an open selection was in 2017, with Norma John singing “Blackbird”, while, although we were considered as big favorites, were limited to 12th place in the First Semifinal with 92 points.

In Tel Aviv, Croatia was represented by Roko Blažević with the song “The Dream”, composed by Jacques Houdek, who represented Croatia at Eurovision 2017. Unfortunately, he was ranked 14th in the second semifinal and thus did not qualify for the final.

Ireland: 50 years after their aunt Dana, The Rua the big favorite for Eurovision 2020

We have read in The Sun, but also in other Irish media, that the big favorite to represent Ireland at Eurovision 2020 is a band, The Rua. The three brothers who make up The Rua are the nieces of Ireland’s first contest winner, Dana!

Who are The Rua?

But apart from the famous aunt, The Rua has had a lot of success since its creation in 2013, and their latest single entered the Billboard Top 50 in the US.

The Rua’s are Roseanna Brown, Alanna Brown and Jonathan Brown. Born and raised in Windsor, England, but with Irish descent. Their critics described the style of their music, something between Taylor Swift and Cranberries.

Two were the highlights of their career. This year, with the opening act for Westlife’s tour concerts in the UK and Ireland, as well as the participation of all three in the cast of Harry Potter films. They have also participated in other famous film productions (Maleficent, The Crown etc.).

Their goal is Eurovision 2020

The Irish Sun reveals that The Rua have set their sights on Eurovision 2020 next May in Rotterdam, exactly 50 years after Dana, also known as Rosemary Scallon, won for Ireland again with “All Kinds Of Everything”. Succeeding the first of the Queen’s seven victories in the competition.

The deadline for submitting a song to RTE on Ireland’s selection to participate in Eurovision 2020 was last Friday, October 25th. The broadcaster has decided to make its choice within the next ten days.

Great interest in Ireland for Rotterdam

An Irish public broadcaster source told The Sun:

“There has been a great response this year for our participation in Eurovision. It is very likely that Ireland will take the lead in the jury rankings in the Netherlands, 50 years after the anniversary of our first victory with Dana again. There would be huge media interest in Dana’s nephews who would take over exactly 50 years later and represent Ireland at Eurovision.”

In its call, the RTE stressed that the Irish representative at Eurovision must have “previous experience in performing in front of large crowds. Confidence and professional conduct are clear advantages “

Dana supports The Rua

Alanna Brown said their aunt has supported them from the beginning to get to the top. “She was always very supportive and if we have any questions we go to her”.

Roseanna added: “She wants us to step on our six feet and she didn’t want to interfere with us in any way. She’s there to support us, we know that. She’s interested in the songs, what we do and is there to give us advice. We want to have the freedom to be The Rua, and that’s essential”.

18-year-old Dana and Ireland’s first win

Dana was just 18 when her career was launched internationally in 1970, winning the contest in front of a television audience of 200 million people.

In 1999, she was elected Member of Parliament, the first Eurovision winner to do so.

There are not few who think Dana could return to Rotterdam in the Netherlands next May, a short distance from The Hague, where the contest took place in 1970, to relive the Eurovision triumph through her nieces this time.

In addition to their 68-year-old aunt, The Rua can also rely on the help of Louis Walsh, a well-known manager and X Factor UK judge!
