Who are Circus Mircus?

Circus Mircus is a Georgian progressive rock band consisting of Armenian drummer Bavonc Gevorcyan, Belgian vocalist and guitarist Igor Von Lichtenstein and Greek bassist and vocalist Damocles Stavriadis. The band plays mainly experimental music, mixing many genres, each of which represents a life experience and the “inner world” of each member. The band was formed in late 2020 in Tbilisi, when three graduates of the local circus academy became friends and left the academy to form their own band. According to one member of the group, the three of them, were probably the worst in the group, so they became friends.

Georgia: The search of the next representative begins tonight

Tonight, the “Georgian Idol“,the show through which Georgia will select its representative to the upcoming Eurovision song contest in May 2020, begins.

It is essentially the first national final of the season, and it will be the second year in a row that GPB, Georgian public broadcaster, will select the country’s representative through Georgian Idol.

The four-member panel, composed of Natia Todua, Tinatin Berdzenishvili, David Evgenidze and David Aladashvili, will select the candidates for the first hearing for the next round.

You can watch the show by pressing here at 19:00 (CET time).

Georgia at Eurovision

Georgia first appeared in the competition in 2007. Only abstained in 2009 and already counts 5 blockbusters in the Grand Final and 2 places in the final top 10. In 2019, Oto Nemsadze represented the country with the song “Keep on going”, but failed to qualify as he finished  finish 14th in the semifinals.

Georgia: the known format of « Georgia’s Star » to be used again

Georgia has made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007, and since then, with only one absence (2009), has been a non-stop member of the institution with its better position to be the ninth (2010 and 2011).

The procedure followed since then for the representative selection has been shifted from a direct assignment to a national final without having resulted in a permanent procedure.  Last year, after years of national finals, GPB,the national broadcaster decided to send Iriao by selecting them internally, and this year, in Israel, they chose the Pop Idol method for choosing its representative, with Oto Nemsadze finally signing “Keep on going”.

About two months after the end of the 64th Eurovision, GPB announced that Georgia’s star, the Georgian version of the Pop Idol, will be again used for representative ‘ selection in the Netherlands, as it did last year.
