Junior Eurovision 2023: Watch the video clip of the German entry, “Ohne Worte”!

For the second edition in a row, Germany selected its Junior Eurovision entry via a national selection. Young artists with demo versions of their songs competed and Fia was crowned the winner with her song “Ohne Worte“.

Yesterday, along with the final version of “Ohne Worte”, the official video of the German entry was released on the official Youtube channel of Junior Eurovision.

Germany: Two new potential candidates for Das Deutsche Finale 2024!

A few days ago we posted an article (here) regarding the artists who have already expressed their intention to take part in Das Deutsche Finale 2024, the show through which Germany is going to pick their next representative at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden.

Two new names are joining the list of the potential candidates who are interested in representing Germany. The first new name is Aileen Sager, who is a personal choice of the prominent composer and songwriter Ralph Siegel. Ralph Siegel has already expressed his desire to submit an entry in the German selection process. Apart from that, it has been 50 years since his first participation in Eurovision and 42 years since his victory with Nicole who performed “Ein bißchen Frieden” and he wants to participate once again in this international contest.

Aileen Sager was a semi-finalist in the German franchise of Idol, “Deutschland sucht den Superstar” and she revealed via her personal Instagram account that her music collaboration with Ralph Siegel is focused on the pop genre. However their Eurovision proposal is not finished yet and for this reason Ralph Siegel spends a lot of time at the recording studio.

The second name that may compete to represent Germany is the musical duo Tilly Electronics who want to go to Eurovision 2024 in Malmö with the song “Tanzen”. This music duo makes electronic music, comes from Leipzig and keeps its identity hidden under its black and white suits. Tilly Electronics’ application has been the subject of much debate in recent days on social media – with much encouragement, but also some potential for polarisation.

Germany: The application platform for Eurovision 2024 has been opened – When will the selection take place?

German broadcaster NDR has officially confirmed that the national final for choosing the nation’s Eurovision 2024 entry will take place on February 16, 2024, under the new moniker “Das Deutsche Finale 2024” (The 2024 German Final). The application platform launched at the same time that the regulations were made available to the public.

The rules haven’t changed significantly despite the name change for the German national final. These are the announcement’s primary takeaways:

  • From today (7 September) to 5 October 2023, bands and artists can submit their applications on the website eurovision.de. They can also use the hashtag #EurovisionGermany2024 on TikTok to share their submission.
  • NDR emphasizes that all musicians are welcome, regardless of genre.
  • Artists that are interested can enter with or without a song. Later on, the matching of songs and performers will take place. But regardless of whether they include a song or not, all submissions must be accompanied by a video showcasing their vocal abilities.
  • The Eurovision rules should be adhered to by musicians that submit songs. These tracks must not be longer than 3 minutes and cannot be older than 1 September 2023. Last but not least, there are no language restrictions for the lyrical portion.

Germany was represented this year by Lord of the Lost with the song “Blood and Glitter”. The band, which is well-known in Germany, came in last place overall, with a total of 18 points. Will Germany be able to recover from its string of poor results and move to the left side of the leaderboard?

Will Germany’s Eurovision participation be taken over by a different broadcaster?

A different broadcaster taking over Germany’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest starting in 2025 is a real option that is now being considered, according to a report from the German media outlet DWDL earlier today. More precisely, it is said that the ARD is thinking about granting another ARD member control over the German participation, which has previously been handled by the NDR.

What is ARD?

ARD is the consortium of local German television stations. Choosing which broadcaster will handle the country’s participation in the Eurovision Song Contest is one of the group’s duties.

What changes are under discussion?

The most likely scenario, according to the same sources, is that Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR) will take over Germany’s participation. MDR is ideal for this role thanks to its string of consistently strong television ratings.

It is significant to note that, if determined, the aforementioned modifications will be put into effect after 2025. The NDR will therefore continue to be in charge of the nation’s participation in Eurovision 2024. In actuality, no official conversations on this matter are currently taking place, according to remarks made by MDR officials.

What caused these thoughts to arise?

Germany’s ongoing poor results in the competition spurred consideration of these modifications. Since 2015, the nation has continuously placed in the bottom two spots of the rankings, with the exception of Michael Schulte’s fourth-place finish in 2018. Naturally, this has resulted in unfavorable domestic responses. Therefore, in accordance with the DWDL, the NDR no longer desires to be the focal point of these conflicts.

Germany: Confirms its participation in Eurovision 2024!

A few hours after the end of the 67th Eurovision Song Contest and despite its low ranking, Germany confirms its participation in Eurovision 2024!

This news was made known by a member of NDR, the German broadcaster, speaking to Spiegel. In particular, they said:

“We are very happy to be there every year. And it will stay that way. Germany is such a diverse, exciting and innovative music market that there is absolutely no reason not to compete again. Eurovision is not only the biggest music show in Europe, but also one of the most successful shows on German television”

To date, 9 countries have already announced their participation in Eurovision 2024. These are:
  • Sweden
  • Cyprus
  • Denmark
  • Norway
  • Finland
  • Malta
  • Luxembourg
  • Spain
  • Germany

This year Germany was represented by Lord of the Lost with the song “Blood & Glitter”. The country could once again not escape from the last places, taking the 26th (last) place.

Eurovision 2023: Watch video of the BIG 5 and Ukraine’s rehearsals!

The preparations on Liverpool for the 67th Eurovision Song Contest are on fire and it’s now a wrap for the seventh and last day of the technical rehearsals. After their first technical rehearsals, the representatives of the BIG 5 and Ukraine took the stage of the M&S Bank Arena for their second rehearsals.

The second rehearsals gave the opportunity to the delegations to fix any mistakes spotted on the first rehearsals and help the artists feel more safe and familiar with the Eurovision big stage.

Because accredited journalists are not allowed to watch both the first and second rehearsals this year, we have very little information about what this year’s artists have prepared for the Eurovision stage. EBU has just uploaded through the official Eurovision channel in YouTube a recap of today’s rehearsals. More specifically, we will have the chance to watch exclusive TV footage of today’s rehearsals.

The countries that had their second rehearsals today were the following:

Germany: Lord of the Lost released “Cha Cha Cha” cover!

Lord of the Lost, the band that represents Germany in the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, made another cover, this time for “Cha Cha Cha”.

The German band released and shared to all the music platforms this year’s Finnish entry “Cha Cha Cha”. This is their first cover that they shared to all the music platforms.

Germany as a Big 5 member is already qualified to the Grand Final of 13th of May, and is scheduled to compete in the second half.

Finland has been declared the winner of the German preview show for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

Tonight was the fourth and final episode of the German preview show ESC-Songcheck 2023. Finland’s Käärijä was declared the big winner as he received the highest score in the entire show, while Austria’s participation with Teya & Salen came out first, in the fourth and last episode.

The results of the fourth episode are as per below:

Germany: The detailed televoting results of Unser Lied für Liverpool!

Just today, almost one and a half month after the German national final, Unser Lied für Liverpool, Eurovision.de and NDR published the detailed results of the public vote. The big winners of the German televoting, with 39.78% of the votes, and the country’s representatives at Eurovision 2023 were Lord Of The Lost with Blood And Glitter.

The detailed results of the public vote were as follows:

  1. Lord Of The Lost – “Blood and Glitter” – 79,520 Calls, 68,677 SMS, 66,178 Online – 214,375 votes – 39.78%
  2. Ikke Hüftgold – “Lied mit gutem Text” (Song with good lyrics) – 46,460 Calls, 26,281 SMS, 75,821 Online – 148,562 votes – 27.56%
  3. Patty Gurdy – “Melodies of Hope” – 18,327 Calls, 9,464 SMS, 21,797 Online – 49,588 votes – 9.2%
  4. Lonely Spring – “Misfit” – 12,144 Calls, 8,489 SMS, 23,539 Online – 44,172 votes – 8.19%
  5. Will Church – “Hold On” – 19,758 Calls, 6,961 SMS, 3,457 Online – 30,176 votes – 5.59%

Overall in Unser Lied für Liverpool 198,564 phone calls were recorded, 133,298 SMS and 206,945 online votes, with a total of 538,897 votes.
