Breaking News | The Netherlands has been disqualified from Eurovision 2024!

Joost Klein, the representative from The Netherlands for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, has been suspended from participating in the event. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has investigated an incident involving Klein. This incident initially led to Klein missing his slot in the show’s penultimate dress rehearsal in Malmo, Sweden.

An official statement by the EBU follows:

The Dutch artist Joost Klein will not be competing in the Grand Final of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.

Swedish police have investigated a complaint made by a female member of the production crew after an incident following his performance in Thursday night’s Semi Final. While the legal process takes its course, it would not be appropriate for him to continue in the Contest.

We would like to make it clear that, contrary to some media reports and social media speculation, this incident did not involve any other performer or delegation member.

We maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards inappropriate behaviour at our event and are committed to providing a safe and secure working environment for all staff at the Contest. In light of this, Joost Klein’s behaviour towards a team member is deemed in breach of Contest rules.

The Grand Final of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest will now proceed with 25 participating songs.

Will be added as soon as it becomes available

Netherlands: Joost Klein questioned by Swedish police after complaint from SVT employee!

Today is the night of the final and it is still unclear what the EBU will decide regarding the Netherlands’ participation in the Grand Final.  According to Dutch public television, Joost Klein was questioned by the police, following a complaint by an employee of SVT.

According to the police report, Joost Klein threatened her, during the first dress rehearsal, on Friday, May 11.

Police say Joost Klein was questioned late last night. The woman who filed the complaint was also questioned. The case has now been handed over to the prosecutor. The case can take weeks to settle.

Therefore, we can not predict what will be the final decision regarding the Netherlands’ participation in tonight’s Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest. The managing director of Dutch public television has arrived in Malmö and is in talks with the EBU to decide what will eventually happen with their participation.

We remind you that yesterday, Joost Klein was not able to perform his song for the jury because of the ongoing investigation by the EBU.  Instead, the video of his performance from the Semi-final was shown.  By the time this article was written a final decision has not been made.  The online voting for the rest of the world has not started as a consequence.

We will keep you informed once we get the final outcome of this case and the official announcements from the EBU.

The Netherlands: Joost Klein will not perform during Grand Final’s Jury Show!

Earlier this day and during the First Dress Rehearsal, Joost Klein did not take the stage for everyone’s surprise. While Joost Klein appeared during the flag parade, he did not show up for his performance and the Dress Rehearsal continued as normal.

The reason given by EBU mentioned a backstage incident, while the causes and the consequences of Joost’s denial for appearing at Dress Rehearsals is still unknown.

A few moments ago, EBU gave us the accredited press an official statement on what will happen tonight:

The investigation into the incident with the Dutch artist in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest is still ongoing.
Discussions are also taking place between the EBU and AVROTROS, the Dutch participating broadcaster.
While the investigation continues the EBU has decided that Joost Klein will not perform during Dress Rehearsal 2 of the competition which is voted on by juries in the 37 participating countries.
His performance from Semi Final 2 will be used instead.

According to information to SVT, a physical confrontation has occurred between the artist and a photographer and this is what led to Joost’s denial in performing today.

Joost Klein is the Dutch representative in Eurovision 2024 with his entry “Europapa“. Joost received one of the ten tickets to the Grand Final and is supposed to perform fifth.

We are waiting for more information on this issue!

Eurovision 2024: EBU in crisis meeting! | Joost Klein stopped from rehearsing this afternoon!

As you read in one of our previous articles, one of the big favorites, Dutch Joost Klein, didn’t show up at the rehearsal for the Eurovision final earlier today.

Svergies Radio’s Carolina Norén, reported from within the press centre that the EBU is currently in a crisis meeting investigating an incident they say occurred yesterday.

She mentioned that she could actually see towards the Dutch box where Joost Klein is supposed to be and the Dutch delegation is waiting for a decision.

She also asked the Israeli delegation briefly, if they had reported anything but they denied anything like that. It was at yesterday’s press conference that it was noticed that Joost Klein had the Dutch flag on him.

Last night, when the Israeli participant Eden Golan received a critical question regarding security concerns on this year’s contest, and the moderators interrupted and said she wouldn’t need to respond, Joost then asked, why not? But this is unclear that the Dutch favourite was stopped from performing earlier for that reason.

According to information to SVT, a physical confrontation has occurred between the artist and a photographer.

So we have to wait for an official statement from the EBU and hope that things clear up a bit. Joost Klein is still in the arena, the Netherlands delegation is sitting and waiting for a decision.

The Rehearsal

Our final rehearsal for today is from musician, writer and artist Joost Klein from the Netherlands, who will be wrapping up the second Semi-Final with his banging dance track Europapa. Fans of Joost will be delighted that his signature dance moves and giant blue shoulder pads have be shipped to Malmö, along with a keyboard player dressed as a fluffy blue and yellow bird – presumably to represent both the EU flag but also conveniently repping Sweden. The LED wall is a manic visual tour of the lyrics, and the whole thing is three minutes of infectious dance energy, with Joost flanked on stage by two female dancers in white tracksuits.

Netherlands: Duncan Laurence interested in hosting Eurovision if Joost Klein wins!

Joost Klein, the Dutch representative for Eurovision 2024, unveiled his entry “Europapa” a week ago. “Europapa” has grown in popularity in the Netherlands over the last week, with Dutch fans ecstatic about a strong performance in Malmö.

The excitement is so high that Duncan Laurence, the winner of Eurovision 2019, has publicly stated his desire to host Eurovision 2025 if Joost Klein wins in Malmö.

Specifically, Duncan Laurence mentions:

I like individuality and authenticity. That is Joost to the core. I think his song is great.

Europapa” is a major streaming success, with 1.2 million streams in the first 24 hours of release. In fact, Joost Klein surpassed Duncan Laurence’s record of one million Spotify streams in the first 24 hours of “Arcade’s” release.

The aforementioned cannot go unnoticed with Duncan Laurence saying:

It was about time that was broken. I’m glad Joost did that. We have known each other for quite a long time, we once attended the same event together. Joost is very good at dealing with media and social media, which will work greatly in his favor. I hope he wins and brings the Eurovision Song Contest back to the Netherlands. If that happens, I will sign up as a presenter.

I can put that so-called English accent of mine to good use for once, and I also speak a little bit of French.

The Netherlands will perform at the second half of the second semi-final on May 9.
