The three highest-scoring entries during the final will advance to the “Super-Final”, where the final winner and representative of Lithuania in Malmö will be determined solely by the public.

The five semi-finals will be broadcast on  January 13, 20, 27 and on February 3 and 10  respectively. It is important to mention that, as in previous years, the semi-finals will not be broadcast live, but will have already been taped earlier in the week. Additionally, in the event of a tie during the voting, the jury’s vote will be the one to count. Finally, the grand final will be broadcast live on February 17.

Lithuania was represented last year by Monika Linkytė with the song “Stay” , finishing in 11th place with a total of 127 points. Will Lithuania be able to achieve another favorable outcome in Malmö?

Lithuania: LRT opens song submission window for Pabandom iš Naujo 2023!

LRT, the Lithuanina national broadcaster, opened the submission window for Pabandom iš naujo 2023, the country’s national final for Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

The search for Monika Liu’s successor on the representation of Lithuania started a few hours ago with the opening of the song submission window for the 2023 national final. Those interested can submit their songs starting today, until the deadline on Monday, December 12.

Ar least 20 songs will compete to win Lithuania’s representation in Liverpool, with the first of up to five shows airing in January. Depending on the number of the songs that will be chosen, up to five shows will be broadcasted, containing: two heats, two semi-finals and the Grand Final.

Audrius Giržadas, the Head of the Lithuanian Delegation, commented:

“Every year, the Eurovision Song Contest unites and gathers people in front of television screens throughout Lithuania, Europe and even the world. This is not only an important tradition, but also a unique opportunity to show this huge audience the work of Lithuanian music artists, who we are often proud of within the country.

In recent years, in order to further raise the bar for the quality of the Eurovision national selection, we have provided support to the contestants. We will continue this, because we hope that in the selections we will see and hear both artists who attract full arenas and talented artists who are even less heard by the Lithuanian audience.”

The last winner of Pabandom iš Naujo and Lithuania’s representative in Eurovision 2022 was Monika Liu with the song “Sentimemtai” and ended up in 14th place with 128 points:

Eurovision 2022: After Sweden, four more countries take a stance against Russia’s participation in Turin!

The EBU‘s response about Russia’s participation in Eurovision 2022 did not satisfy Norway, Denmark, Lithuania and the Netherlands which, after Sweden, ask the EBU to reconsider its decision and not allow Russia to participate in the competition.

Following the request of the Ukrainian public television for expulsion of the corresponding Russian from the EBU, the latter in a statement underlined the apolitical nature of the competition and that it has no authority to punish its members (public radio and television), for acts committed by governments of their countries.

The Eurovision Song Contest is a non-political – cultural event that unites countries and celebrates differences through music. EBU members in both Russia and Ukraine have pledged to attend this year’s event in Turin and we intend to welcome them and let artists from both countries participate in May. Of course, we continue to monitor developments closely.

EBU

However, this response did not satisfy Sweden, which, through SVT CEO Hanna Stjärne, asked the EBU to reconsider its decision on Russia. Today, four more broadcasters have been added to the list, those of Lithuania, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands.

Lithuania‘s general director of public television, Monika Garbaciauskaite, said in a statement today that she would soon raise the issue of Russia’s participation with the EBU. Norwegian public broadcaster has also just released a statement taking a clear stance. In a similar climate, the Danish public television informed the EBU that it is opposed to Russia’s participation in Eurovision 2022 and so did the dutch one AVROTROS a few minutes ago.

However, we have also had statements from the television of Finland, which, although they state that it is the responsibility of the EBU to make any decision regarding Russia’s participation, emphasize that they are closely monitoring the issue and will take a position on it soon.

Eurovision 2022 artists have also started taking a stance against Russia’s participation in Eurovision 2022, as this year’s representatives of Latvia, Citi Zēni, have also personally asked the EBU not to allow the country that started a war in Europe to take part in the competition.

We are awaiting with interest the reactions from the other members of the EBU, but also for the final decision regarding Russia’s participation in Eurovision 2022.

Stay tuned to Eurovisionfun for all developments!
