Romania: Mihai Trăistariu has a song for Eurovision 2024!

Regardless the uncertainty regarding Romania’s participation in Eurovision 2024 and the tight deadline for TVR’s decision, the Eurovision legend Mihai Trăistariu is now more than ready to return to the Eurovision stage for one more time.

Having previously participated in 2006, Trăistariu considers his Eurovision participation as a life-changing experience and is willing to participate again at all costs. He is just waiting to see what TVR’s decision will be or he would consider to submit a song in other countries’ preselections. Nevertheless, he states that he would prefer to represent his home-country, Romania.

In 2006 I wanted to win, I didn’t succeed, and since then I made it my ambition to keep trying at Eurovision. This year I have an act, but it is not yet known if Romania will participate, it is under discussion, I am actually watching, nothing has been announced. At least if they would announce that it is not happening, that I have the possibility to register in other countries. I have the song and I’m waiting to see what decision our television makes. The only alternative is to register now in another country, but I want to be in Romania, to represent my country, for the Romanians to cry when I bring the big prize home. There are still a few countries that allow foreigners to register, but they close the pre-selections.

Hence, Trăistariu already has a song in his hands coming from Finland and it is of vital importance to submit it now, as:

A song from 10 years ago, if you want to play it on the radio now, no one will pick it up, because it’s not updated. It’s the same with Eurovision, everything has changed, the graphics, the shows, so you have to come up with something new. I wouldn’t be able to keep this year’s song for the next 2-3 years, it might not be suitable anymore. This song I have is from Finland and it’s a modern-slow piece and it works for me. I also had rhythmic songs, even slower ones, I receive many songs as a gift for Eurovision and I don’t really like them, I have to choose with my head. Last year I couldn’t find it and I didn’t submit again. This year we announced that we found the song and we are no longer doing Eurovision.

Moreover, he also expressed his opinion on Romania’s bad results in the competition for the past years:

I don’t know if what I say is valid, but I believe in it, I believe that an experienced artist knows how to face such an international competition differently. It is the biggest international music competition, we have no other bigger. It’s a pity that Romania backs down due to a failure, it has also happened in football, did Romania then withdraw from the Championships? Not. And here it is the same, let’s not be demoralized. Being young, they don’t have experience, they look at everything as a joke, they don’t take everything seriously, they don’t realize that Romania is competing, Romania is written on the screen, then the name of the artist. Eurovision is the success of my life, 2006 changed my life completely.

It appears that the lack of professionalism and experience is what has led to Romania’s streak of bad results and non-qualifications, according to Mihai Trăistariu.

Romania at Eurovision 2024

The deadline for TVR to decide whether the country will participate in Malmö or not is due to January 25. The Eurovision 2024 participation will be discussed by the Board of Directors and then a decision will be made.

In case Romania finally participates at Eurovision 2024, it might not be Mihai Trăistariu’s year either, as according to our exclusive information, two female artists are in race for Malmö. Two female artists have been approached by TVR to have one of them fly the Romanian flag in Malmö. They also have their songs ready and have been preparing for this project for a long time.

Mihai Trăistariu represented his country in the contest back in 2006, with the song “Tornero”, which finished in fourth place and became a massive European hit. He has also tried again to represent Romania in multiple occasions, in 2016,2017,2018 and 2019 without success.

Romania: Mihai Trăistariu is willing to participate in Eurovision 2024!

It seems that Ovi (Romania 2010,2014) is not the only Romanian former Eurovision artist that is preparing for Eurovision 2024.

Mihai Trăistariu recently announced that he is willing to participate in Eurovision 2024 and therefore is looking for the composer of his entry. Specifically, he posted the following on his Facebook account:

I’m looking for a composer with a current sound, with whom to work a wow song for Eurovision 2024. Recommendations?

Although, his return will come true under one condition. Trăistariu does not plan to pay the composer for the song that will make.

As he has stated:

I don’t pay anything because I’ve never paid for a song. I follow the same principle that I’m Mihai Trăistariu and whoever wants to send me a good song, gives it to me. “Tornero” was not paid.

His unwillingness to pay the composer in advance derives from his belief that in case his song wins and represents Romania in Eurovision both of them will profit. The same thing occurred with “Tornero”:

I’ve never paid for my hits and I don’t want to teach songwriters that way, because that’s how it seems natural to me. Noted artists are given songs as gifts, because they earn from the royalties afterwards.

The composer of “Tornero”, Eduard Cârcotă, earns even today half of the copyrights. And, if I made a few hundred thousand euros, he made maybe millions. I have 140 songs on my albums and I haven’t paid for a single one!

The Romanian artist represented his country in the contest back in 2006, with the song “Tornero”, which finished in fourth place and became a massive European hit. He has also tried again to represent Romania in multiple occasions, in 2016,2017,2018 and 2019 without success.

Will Mihai Trăistariu overturn the tables for Romania and help his country regain its old prestige in Eurovision? Stay tuned on EurovisionFun for all news!

Romania: MIHAI is ready for Selectia Nationala 2023!

Mihai Traistariu is no stranger to the Eurovision community, since he represented Romania at Eurovision 2006 and came to fourth place for his country, with the well-known song “Tornero“.

The singer never stopped trying to get back on the competition scene, often taking part in the Romanian national final, but never winning. In fact, he has sent songs to other countries as well, such as San Marino, Azerbaijan and Belarus.

It may be that in recent years the singer has critized several times the  public television for their choices in the song contest, however the changes in Selectia Nationala 2023, were the ones that made him want to try his luck again and be on the Eurovision stage, after 17 years.

Through his personal Facebook account, MIHAI announced his intention to take part in Selectia Nationala 2023, since the representative of the country will be chosen exclusively by the Romanian public. In fact, he invites all interested composers to send him their songs in order to be the representative of Romania at Eurovision 2023.

In his post, MIHAI states:

As you already know, apart from being a Eurovision mega fan, I also set a goal.
So I started to fight for the first place in Romania which is extremely difficult … but never impossible! This year there will be NO JUDGES and that is a good thing. It will be public vote only. I’ve been saying this from the beginning… Indigenous musicians, when invited to the Eurovision jury, have a natural tendency to sabotage certain artists or composers, with criteria known only to them. There were such examples every year. There is also the reverse: there are judges who favor certain competitors… either out of friendship, or personal interests, or… “so that the neighbor’s goat doesn’t win”! And at that time….. I say a big YES to this year’s selection, precisely because there is no jury. Back to it again… If you know any songwriters, younger or more experienced, who might be looking to try their luck at Eurovision… with Mihai Traistariu… I’m waiting for their demo tracks on my email: mihai.traistariu@gmail.com

PS : There’s just one thing I want to make clear from the start!
I listen to all the songs I receive and only then can I decide whether or not it is worth taking part in the contest! I’d like to stop throwing myself on the tram if I’m not feeling the song! Come now with this bomb song! Come on, Romania!

The process of Selectia Nationala 2023

Only 12 songs will compete in one night, where the public will exclusively choose the song they wish to represent in Liverpool, at Eurovision 2023.

The deadline for submission of entries for the Selectia Nationala will start on Monday 14th November and will last until 11th December. Then a committee will choose the 12 best songs. The artists who will compete in the Selectia Nationala will be announced no later than December 17th.

The Selectia Nationala will be held on February 11 and the winner will be determined solely by public votes, via sms, and online voting. Both Romanians and foreign citizens can participate, without any restrictions, both in terms of creators and performers.

Romania was represented this year by WRS with the song Llamame, which placed 18th  in the grand final:
