Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal has the most views on TikTok?

Two days ago, the first rehearsals for all 37 entries officially concluded, and today the second rehearsals are expected to be completed, with the Big 5 and the host country Sweden taking the stage at the Malmö Arena for the second time! This means that we are getting closer to the Eurovision week, with the Dress and Jury Rehearsals for the first semi-final starting on Monday.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. Based on this capability, the most popular songs before rehearsals were from the Netherlands and Italy. Will they receive the same promotion as before?

The ranking with all the entries (in brackets will be the day of the rehearsal) based on the increasing number of views after one week from the start of the first rehearsals on TikTok is as follows:

TikTok has played a significant role in the success of Eurovision songs in recent years. For example, Duncan Laurence’s winning entry “Arcade” became a global hit a year after winning the competition when it was used in over a million videos on TikTok. One of the earliest TikTok successes from Eurovision was Getter Jaani’s “Rockefeller Street”, which went viral on the platform in 2018 and has since been used in over two million videos. Let’s not forget that Armenia’s entry in 2022 by Rosa Linn with “Snap” gained over a billion views on the platform. Finally, Norway’s entry last year gained significant worldwide publicity months before the competition week, where it secured fifth place.

Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal had the most views on the sixth day?

Yesterday, the first rehearsals were officially concluded, with the Big 5 and the host country Sweden taking the stage at the Malmö Arena for the first time! Regarding what we liked and what we would like to see again, you can read our new editorial. Also, you can read our article from the day before yesterday about the rehearsals of the eight countries from the second semifinal who completed their rehearsals on Tuesday.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. However, the TikTok algorithm is usually able to detect the song used in the video, assign it to the correct track, and then include it in the total number of videos where that sound has been used. Based on this capability, the most popular songs before rehearsals were from the Netherlands and Italy. Will they receive the same promotion as before?

In less than 24 hours (May 3, 2024, time 15:35 CET), since the first clip from the rehearsals was uploaded, we have a indicative sample of which rehearsal was favored by the audience (here it should be noted that the videos were uploaded one after the other with a one and a half hour interval and there was a significant delay in their publication).

The rehearsals that had the most views are:

  1. Sweden: Marcus & Martinus – Unforgettable – 344.1 thousand views
  2. United Kingdom: Olly AlexanderDizzy – 328.9 thousand views
  3. Spain: Nebulossa – Zorra – 264.1 thousand views
  4. France: Slimane – Mon Amour – 247.4 thousand views
  5. Germany: IsaakAlways On The Run – 152.9 thousand views
  6. Italy: Angelina MangoLa Noia – 136.1 thousand views

With this small sample, we can infer that:

  • Sweden and the United Kingdom impressed the fans, capturing the first and second positions respectively in views on their first rehearsal. Will they have the same response tomorrow when they take the stage for their second rehearsal?
  • Surprisingly, the favorite to win, Italy, and Angelina Mango are in the last position in views from their first rehearsal.
  • Since it has only been 20 hours since the first video was posted on TikTok, there is a possibility that countries will recover in views very soon.”

Stay tuned because tomorrow the overall ranking of all 37 entries based on their views on TikTok before the semi-finals will be revealed.

Eurovision 2024: France’s First Rehearsal!

Next up on the stage of Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is France. Slimane with his song “Mon Amour” is ready for his first rehearsal on the stage of Malmö Arena!

Who is Slimane?

Slimane Nebchi (known with his stage name as Slimane) was born and raised in France, while he is of Algerian descent through his grandparents.

Since winning The Voice (France) in 2016, Slimane’s rise in popularity has been meteoric, with 2 million albums sold, 5 NRJ Music Awards, 2 billion worldwide streams, 7 million followers on social media and a Victorie de la Musique to his name.

The singer wrote the lyrics of Mon amour and co-composed the song with his inseparable partners and friends Yaacov and Meir Salah, with whom Slimane has been making music since the age of 15.

Slimane was selected internally by France Télévisions for Eurovision 2024. In fact, “Mon Amour” was the first Eurovision 2024 entry released in November 2023.

The Rehearsal

France’s Slimane is up next, with his sweeping ballad Mon Amour. He’s become an established star in his home country since he won The Voice (France) in 2016, and now has his sights set on Eurovision.

The staging for this performance has the same energy as the official video, with lots of close-ups of Slimane sharing his pain and asking the big questions about love. His vocal range and the simple piano accompaniment create a kind of breathless intensity, and nobody does his kind of chanson d’amour quite like France.

Staging wise, it starts with Slimane lying on the floor in a white suit, and he performs the first half of the song on his knees, interacting with the camera in a way that feels like a POV of a really intense argument. The juxtaposition of this with the questions he asks in the lyrics feels really immersive, like you’re part of the encounter. We might have just held our breath for three minutes.

At the end there’s a section where Slimane steps away from the mic and sings the final chorus entirely acapella, in a cloud of smoke. We’ve seen this element before during pre-party season, but in this big arena it creates a haunting echo.

France’s second rehearsal is scheduled for Saturday, 4/5. A TV snippet of Slimane’s performance will provide a clearer picture of what to expect on the Eurovision stage.

It is unknown whether the English version of “Mon Amour” will be performed on the Eurovision stage or it will just be released as an alternative version of the song. The latter is the most likely scenario.

Slimane was internally selected by France Télévisions and his entry “Mon Amour” was revealed back in Νovember, being the first Eurovision 2024 entry to be released.

Who is Slimane?

Slimane Nebchi is 34 years old and is of Algerian origin. He won The Voice of France in 2016 and ever since his career has exploded. His four studio albums have all reached the first place in the french charts and he has also charted in other countries’ charts. He was a coach in the Voice of Belgium. He has also participated in musicals and some films as an actor, while he is also a philanthropist.

The artist is probably the biggest name to represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest for many years. As the head of french delegation, Alexandra Redde-Amiel said, France is heading for the trophy.

The afore-mentioned aim is also reflected in charts. Impressively, for French standards, Slimane’s “Mon Amour” has been charting for months on the French Spotify list.

France, as a member of the BIG 5, is automatically qualified to the Grand Final of May 11, while the viewers will be able to cast their votes on the second semi-final.

France: Listen to the first song of Eurovision 2024!

The first song for Eurovision 2024 has already been released! This morning, Slimane was announced as the French representative for the 68th Eurovision Song Contest. His song is called Mon Amour. It is composed by Slimane himself and Yaacov & Meïr Salah.

Listen to the song:

About the artist

Slimane Nebchi is 34 years old and is of algerian origin. He won The Voice of France in 2016 and ever since his career has exploded. His four studio albums have all reached the first place in the french charts and he has also charted in other countries’ charts. He was a coach in the Voice of Belgium. He has also participated in musicals and some films as an actor, while he is also a philanthropist.

The artist is probably the biggest name to represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest for many years. As the head of french delegation, Alexandra Redde-Amiel said, France is heading for the trophy.

With 2 million albums sold. 1 million spectators in his concerts, 2 billion streams across the world, 5 NRJ Music Awards and a Victory of Music, Slimane has announced to his 7 million fans in social media that he will proudly represent France in Eurovision 2024.

Slimane composes his own music, but he has also written music for famous french artists, like M Pokora, Vitaa, Kendji etc.

He performs out of norms in order to weave emotional links with his audience.

Alexandra Redde-Amiel explains why the song is revealed so early

For us, supporting such an artist in the competition implies thinking about everything we can do with him. This is why we make it official early. We want to prepare Slimane, take him to meet Europe. The artist considers translating his song into English and other languages because it is important for him that the song is understood.

Revealing the song in November also gives it the best chance of winning the French public and, ideally, becoming a success on national territory in the hope of becoming also an international hit. It is important that the country supports Slimane as it has always done and even more so today. The artist should thus participate in numerous public service entertainment programs.
