Norway: NRK refers discussions of the Norwegian jury mebers to the EBU for assessment!

Norway’s national television broadcaster, NRK, confirmed that it has sent some information, regarding discussions around the Norwegian jury’s voting to the EBU for assessment.

Daniel Owen, who was one of the Norwegian jury members, expressed his regret about Norway’s jury giving 8 points to Israel this year.

In a post on social media, he said:

“In my opinion, Israel should not be allowed to participate in Eurovision at all. Although I was not involved in the awarding of points to Israel, I would like to apologise that this was shown from the Norwegian jury”

Gunilla Süssmann, who was also part of the Norwegian jury, said:

“The fact that the jury did not choose to boycott artists is not the same as us supporting war. This was a purely professional assessment where we had to assess the best song based on our musical expertise. That is what we have done.”

Stig Karlsen, who was the Head of Deligation for Noway this year, said on NR that Daniel Owen’s words might have caused a brench of the rules:

“We want to emphasize that the jury must judge the song, artist and performance without being colored by politics or other non-musical matters. With Daniel Owen’s statement, it may look like we have a rule violation. Information about the case was yesterday sent from NRK to the EBU for assessment”

The EBU has not yet made an official statement about the situation.

Norway participated in Eurovision 2024 with the band Gåte and the song “Ulveham”, finnishing in the 25th place – last – in the Grand Final of the Contest.

Norway : Gåte considered withdrawing from Eurovision Grand Final!

Only 2 days after the end of the Grand Final of Eurovision 2024, it was reported through the Norwegian media that the Norwegian band Gåte was almost to withdraw from the Grand Final.

The guitarist of the band, Magnus Børmark, told;

Withdrawning was on our plans until the last second. We eventually had constructive talks with the EBU. Things were just good enough for it to be implemented.

Magnus Børmark says that there was a strong confrontation with the organiser, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). He believes the artists were forced into a political role and were involuntarily given the responsibility of carrying out an extremely complicated conflict.

 

Norway participated in Eurovision 2024 with the band Gåte and the song “Ulveham”, finnishing in the 25th place – last – in the Grand Final of the Contest.

Norway: 843 thousand watched the Melodi Grand Prix 2024 final!

Last Saturday saw the Norwegian national final, Melodi Grand Prix 2024, where 843 thousand viewers watched it.
The Norwegian broadcaster reports that the final had 144,000 fewer viewers than last year.
Last year, almost a million viewers, more precisely 987 thousand viewers, saw Alessandra Mele win the final of MGP 2023. In relation to 2022 where she had 250 thousand less, when Subwoolfer won. In 2021, when Tix won, the MGP final drew 1.1 million viewers. In 2020, 972,000 watched Ulrikke Brandstorp.
So this year the state channel reached 843,000 viewers.

Norway: Gåte does not agree with the participation of Israel in Eurovision 2024!

The group Gåte, despite not making much of a sensation at first, after their appearance in the semi-final of Melodi Grand Prix 2024, Norway’s national final, is now the big favorite of fans and betting companies to represent the country at Eurovision 2024!

A while ago, the group, in an interview, mentioned that their participation in Eurovision is not certain, in case they win the MGP, since they do not agree with the participation of Israel. Specifically, the band’s singer, Gunnhild Sundli, states:

“The extreme and unbearable situation in Gaza must end as soon as possible. We all agree in the group that Israel’s participation is somewhat problematic with this whole situation. We’ll need some time to discuss it.”

Gåte also specifically mentioned the possibility of their victory in the Norwegian national final:

“If we win on Saturday, it’s something we’ll have to decide. But we’ll need some time to decide what’s best.”

At the same time, the betting’s second favourites, KEiiNO, spoke about Eurovision and Israel:

“We all agree that what is happening in Gaza is terrible. As things stand now, it will be difficult for Israel to participate in the Competition in May.“

Finally, Gunnhild Sundli added:

“We are a band that believes that music is something that unites. War never led to peace. We have to see what other countries have to say. I think there will be a need for dialogue with people higher up. It is not an easy decision. We must believe in peace and dialogue and understanding for each nation. And the most important war, the war against war.”

Despite what is happening in Norway, both the EBU and NRK, the public broadcaster, have long stated that they are not going to boycott Israel’s participation in Eurovision 2024.

The Grand Final of Norway’s national final is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday, February 3, where the country’s representative for Eurovision will be decided.

Norway: Listen to the new version of “Ulveham”!

Just a few days prior to MGP final, the Norwegian national selection of Eurovision, NRK decided that Gåte should change the lyrics of their entry “Ulveham“. The reason behind this sudden change is the discovery that the lyrics of “Ulveham” are taken from a thousand year-old medieval balad. Hence, as Eurovision is a contest of original songs, “Ulveham” shall be rewritten.

With the final of MGP scheduled for Saturday, February 3, Gåte released their new version of “Ulveham” on streaming platforms. As they have mentioned themselves and as confirmed by Stig Karlsen, the theme of the song remains the same.

Melodi Grand Prix 2024

After three semi-finals, the final of MGP is scheduled for Saturday, February 3 and will be broadcasted live from Trondheim. Three acts qualified from each semi-final, making up a total of the following nine finalists (in the official running order):

  2. Annprincess – Save Me 
  3. GOTHMINISTER – We Come Alive 
  4. Ingrid Jasmin – Eya
  5. MIIA – Green Lights
  6. Margaret Berger – Oblivion
  7. Dag Erik Oksvold & Anne Fagermo – Judge Tenderly of Me
  8. Gåte –Ulveham
  9. Super Rob & Erika Norwich – My Ai

The winner will be decided by a combination of the public’s votes, which will make up 60% of the final score, and the jury’s votes, which will make up 40%.

Last year’s MGP winner and therefore Norway’s representative in Liverpool was Alessandra with her song “Queen of Kings“, which finished in the fifth place of the scoreboard.
