Poland: Announcements for Eurovision 2024 in the coming days from TVP!

We know one thing for sure. The following days are expected to be intense for Eurovision 2024, with news and announcements from across Europe.

Although no official statement has been released regarding Poland’s plans for Eurovision 2024, the country has been the focus of attention in recent weeks due to widespread speculation about who will succeed Blanka.

The wait is almost over, and as the official Polish Eurovision account announced in a mysterious Facebook post, some big news for Eurovision 2024 will be revealed in the coming days, most likely on Wednesday.

Poland at Eurovision 2024

Following the national elections in October, there were major changes made inside TVP causing uncertainty on Poland’s fate in Eurovision. Recently, the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland announced that following the suspension of funding of public media, a liquidation of the respective companies would follow.

Regardless the ongoing backlash in Poland there is still no indication on how the recent events will affect the country’s participation in Eurovision 2024.

Last year, Poland was represented in Liverpool by Blanka and her song “Solo”, finishing eighth in the public voting and nineteenth overall.

Almost 20 artists have publicly expressed their interest in representing Poland at Eurovision 2024, while at the same time, TVP, the country’s public broadcaster, remains silent amid a period of major changes . Some songs have already been released, while the artists interested can be seen in the list below:

  2. Assembled – “Short period of panic

Two former representatives of the country are on the list. We are talking about Edyta Górniak who represented the country in 1994 in their debut appearance, getting the country’s best position until now (2nd), and Justyna Steczkowska who represented Poland in 1995.

However, we can say that the singer who has made the biggest impression is undoubtedly Justyna Steczkowska, with the song “Witch-ER Tarohoro”,  which has caused a sensation on social networks, with fans both inside and outside the country wishing for her to be the representative since the release of her song.

For the last two years, Poland has chosen its Eurovision representative through a national final, however with the constant changes currently happening at TVP headquarters, there is no official announcement about the selection method.

Last year, Poland was represented in Liverpool by Blanka and her song “Solo” , finishing eighth in the public vote and nineteenth overall.

Poland: Major changes in TVP after national elections!

On Sunday, October 15, 2023 , the national parliamentary elections of Poland took place, with Donald Tusk winning and becoming the Prime Minister of the country.

One of the many reforms he already made, was, of course, the replacement of the director of TVP, by Tomasz Sygut, who in turn made radical changes within the council of the public television.

Some of the TVP employees:

  • Aneta Woźniak has been the Program Manager since November 2022 with many years of experience in television
  • Marcin Skabara , was Woźniak’s deputy , and is responsible for the program’s marketing and strategy
  • Piotr Kierzkowski has been the director and editor-in-chief of TVP 3 since August 2023, and has also been an assistant to the former president of TVP . He has been working for public television since 2021
  • Wojciech Kowalczyk has been a member of TVP’s advertising office since 2016
  • Przemysław Herburt has been the head of the corporate affairs office since October 2022, and recently, following the decision of the former president, he also became the company’s representative
  • Finally, Agnieszka Marciniak has been the director of the human capital management office since February 2023, while she is also the director of TVP’s administrative office

All the above mentioned people, as well as several TVP employees, were fired from the company, by decision of the Tusk government, accused of propaganda in favor of the “Law and Justice” party that lost the lastest elections.

The news channel, TVP Info, has already stopped broadcasting, while at the same time, the station’s official website has been closed .

In this way, the new, pro-European government of the country decided to restore the “legitimacy and impartiality” of public television, which according to their words , had turned “into a propaganda tool” of the previous ruling party.

The preparations on Liverpool for the 67th Eurovision Song Contest are on fire and it’s now a wrap for the 6th day of the technical rehearsals. After their first technical rehearsals, the representatives of the 11 remaining acts participating in the 2nd Semifinal on May 11, took the stage of the M&S Bank Arena for their second rehearsals.

About the first 5 countries from SemiFinal 2 that had their second rehearsals yesterday:

The second rehearsals gave the opportunity to the delegations to fix any mistakes spotted on the first rehearsals and help the artists feel more safe and familiar with the Eurovision big stage.

Because accredited journalists are not allowed to watch both the first and second rehearsals this year, we have very little information about what this year’s artists have prepared for the Eurovision stage. EBU has just uploaded through the official Eurovision channel in YouTube a recap of today’s rehearsals. More specifically, we will have the chance to watch exclusive TV footage of today’s rehearsals.

The countries that had their second rehearsals today were the following:

  1. Cyprus
  2. Iceland
  3. Greece
  4. Poland
  5. Slovenia
