San Marino: On February 23 the final of Una Voce per San Marino!

Despite their non qualification this year, the public broadcaster of San Marino confirmed very early on that Una Voce per San Marino, the national final through which their participation in Eurovision 2022 was selected, will be repeated for the next contest. Today more information was given about the new edition of Una Voce per San Marino, while the dates of the show were also announced.

The dates and regulations

The process will remain almost the same as what happened at Una Voce per San Marino 2022. In other words, there will again be two categories, that of new artists, but also of established ones. The Academy and Casting process for the selection of the new artists who will compete in the final will take place from October 28, 2022 until January 27, 2023.

60 artists will be selected after the completion of the castings, to move on to the second phase of the process. Five semi-finals will follow (one only for artists of San Marino origin and one second-chance semi-final), from which those who will compete on February 23rd in the final of Una Voce per San Marino, which will take place at the Teatro Nuovo Dogana . The semi-finals will be televised, but the final will be televised live.

Unlike the previous year, established artists will not have the privilege of being directly in the final. Those of them who accept the invitation of the production company to participate in Una Voce per San Marino 2023 will simply avoid the first stage of the Academy and Casting. In other words, they will have to compete normally in the semi-finals and claim, with the new artists, their qualification to the final. Nevertheless, the production company reserves the right, if it deems that an artist is of particular importance, to give him the possibility to compete directly in the grand final, as an exception.

The winner will be selected by a five-member jury. Two judges will be from the country’s public television, two judges from the production company and one judge – a representative of the state government.

San Marino: SMRTV’s press release on the alleged irregularity in the judges’ vote!

A few moments ago, San Marino’s broadcaster SMRTV issued a press release on yesterday’s EBU announcement on the irregularity in the voting of the six-countries jury. SMRTV is the sixth and last broadcaster from the countries involved to react to the cancellation of its jury vote.

SMRTV’s press release states the following:

EBU changes the vote of San Marino which had given 12 points to Italy.

As for the EBU press release on the alleged voting irregularities that would have occurred during the Eurovision just ended, San Marino RTV specifies that it has always remained in contact with EBU and considered EBU the only interlocutor until yesterday’s release in the late afternoon.

The statement was not shared despite the fact that RTV – and the other 5 countries involved – are active members of the consortium. It is important to underline this because the way in which EBU has moved in this affair seems in our opinion a bit authoritarian rather than inspired by the associations that instead guide and regulate the relations between EBU members. We have already pointed out to EBU our disappointment with the way and we are not referring to just the press release that has just come out.

When asked if EBU believed the suspicions of voting irregularities to be 100% founded, the answer was no. When asked if EBU had noticed that a group of countries in the second semifinal would apparently have exchanged 12, 10, 8, 7 and 6, the answer was no. When asked why the canceled votes of San Marino and the other 5 suspected countries were all given to Sweden (who were given 72 points) and Australia (60 points for her) the answer was because “they had the best songs.”.

Nothing makes us think our jurors voted for something they didn’t like. Their – and ours – 12 to Italy was replaced by EBU with a 12 to Spain. We asked how this new vote was “calculated” but we have not been given a precise answer. We know Eurovision and have been collaborating with them for years, we continue to believe in institutions and in the competition and we cheer for the best, even if it doesn’t always have the best song.

Achille Lauro represented San Marino in Eurovision 2022 and with “Stripper” he came in 14th place in the second semi-final. You can listen to his entry here:

San Marino: Disagrees with cancellation of Eurovision 2020

In a press release sent a few minutes ago by the San Marino Public Television (SMRTV), the channel  expresses opposition to the EBU’s decision to cancel the 65th Eurovision Song Contest.

The press release states:

“Quite rightly – obviously – the EBU’s decision to cancel Eurovision 2020 in mid-May, but as a broadcaster, and I’m sure we are not alone, it would be more logical not to cancel the event altogether, but as it did for the European Games , a postponement for autumn 2020 or directly for 2021 … would allow all public broadcasters to open the 2020-2021 season with Eurovision 2020, giving an important and strong message about the international language of music”.

San Marino: Aly Ryan submitted 7 songs for Eurovision 2020

The candidate for the German national final in 2019, Aly Ryan, after announcing that she had sent a bid to represent Switzerland at Eurovision 2020, also expressed her interest in another country.

Yesterday through her Twitter account, she revealed that she had sent 7 songs to San Marino public television, SMRTV. However, SMRTV has not yet responded to her emails.

The 23-year-old singer, who is ready to compete at Eurovision, has already submitted 5 songs to claim the Swiss representation in Rotterdam, while she, along with two others, has filed them on San Marino television.

Aly Ryan was a contender in the 2019 German national final Unser Lied für Israel, which, though one of the big favorites to represent the country, was limited to 4th place and missed the opportunity to represent her country in Israel.
