Iceland: results for Söngvakeppnin 2023 revealed!

Iceland’s public broadcaster RUV has announced the detailed results for their national final Söngvakeppnin 2023.  Now we can examine how both the televoting and jury gave their points.

Iceland national final got the highest voting participation from the televoting exceeding any previous year.  In fact, the Icelandic final receive more than 260,000 votes, an impressive number for a country with a population of around 370,000 people.

Here are the detailed results of Söngvakeppnin 2023:

Public voting in the first round of voting

  1. Diljá -Power: 47,549 votes (38.60%)
  2. Langi Seli og Skuggarnir – OK: 31,557 votes (25.62%)
  3. Celebs – Doomsday Dancing: 17,436 votes (14.15%)
  4. Bragi -Sometimes the world’s against you: 14,463 votes (11.74%)
  5. Sigga Ózk -Dancing Lonely: 12,179 votes (9.89%)

Jury voting in the first round of voting

  1. Diljá – Power: 30,939 votes (25.12%)
  2. Sigga Ózk -Dancing Lonely: 24,350 votes (19.77%)
  3. Celebs – Doomsday Dancing: 23,491 votes (19.07%)
  4. Bragi -Sometimes the world’s against you: 22,345 votes (18.14%)
  5. Langi Seli og Skuggarnir -OK: 22,059 votes (17.91%)

  1. Diljá – Power: 78,488 votes (31.86%)
  2. Langi Seli og Skuggarnir – OK: 53,616 votes (21.76%)
  3. Celebs -Doomsday Dancing: 40,927 votes (16.61%)
  4. Bragi – Sometimes the world’s against you: 36,808 votes (14.94%)
  5. Sigga Ózk – Dancing Lonely: 36,529 votes (14.83%)

The top two voted songs advanced to the second and final voting phase, where only the audience voted.

Iceland is very notable for being very transparent regarding their Eurovision national final.  Every year at the end of their national final the public broadcaster makes public the details of both the jury and the televote so that everyone can know the details behind the final scoreboard.

Iceland, the land of ice and fire, has selected its representative for Eurovision 2023 through the national final Söngvakeppnin. A few minutes ago, the Grand Final was completed.

The hosts of the show where Unnsteinn Manuel StefánssonRagnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir and Sigurður Þorri Gunnarsson.

The 5 entries appeared in the following order:

  1. Sigga Ózk – Dancing Lonely
  2. BRAGI – Sometimes the World´s Against You
  3. Celebs – Doomsday Dancing
  4. Diljá – Power
  5. Langi Seli og Skuggarnir – OK

The combined votes of the public and the jury determined the 2 acts that qualified for the Super Final. Those were:

The televoting lines opened again so the Icelandic public could choose between the 2 acts. The winner, determined by the televoting of the Super Final, combined with votes from the first round was:

Grand Final today for Söngvakeppnin 2023, the process through which Iceland is called upon to select its entry for the upcoming Eurovision 2023.

Broadcast live from the RVK studios, the land of ice and fire is called upon to choose the artist that will represent Iceland at the 67th Eurovision Song Contest.

Participants

Five artists take part in tonight’s Grand Final of Söngvakeppnin 2023, vying for the ticket to Liverpool. These artists are:

  1. Sigga Ózk – “Dancing Lonely”
  2. BRAGI – “Sometimes the World´s Against You”
  3. Celebs – “Doomsday Dancing”
  4. Diljá – “Power”
  5. Langi Seli og Skuggarnir – “OK”

Format

A total of 10 songs will take part in Söngvakeppnin 2023 after being selected by the relevant RÚV jury. Five songs will take part in each of the two semi-finals, with the best two from each semi-final advancing to the Grand Final. After the semi-finals, the judges have the right to use a wildcard, on one of the six artists who did not qualify.

In the two semi-finals, the result will be decided solely by public vote, while in the final there will be a combined public and jury vote to decide the two songs that will advance to the Super Final. There, the Icelandic public has the ultimate say in choosing the country’s next representative.

The presenters of Söngvakeppnin 2023 are Unnsteinn Manuel Stefánsson, Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir and Sigurður Þorri Gunnarsson.

Iceland: Söngvakeppnin 2023 running order revealed!

Icelandic broadcaster RÚV has revealed the running order for their Eurovision national final.

Five songs are competing in the final for Söngvakeppnin 2023.  The Iceland final will take place next March 04 in Söngvakeppnishöllinni in Gufunes.

Here is the running order:

  1. Sigga Ózk – “Dancing Lonely”
  2. BRAGI – “Sometimes the World’s Against You”
  3. Celebs – “Doomsday Dancing”
  4. Diljá – “Power”
  5. Langi Seli og Skuggarnir – “OK”

According to the rules of the Icelandic national final, during the Grand Final all the acts should sing in the language they will perform should they are selected to represent Iceland.  All of the acts but Langi Seli og Skuggarnir are planning to perform in English.

The final of Söngvakeppnin 2023 has two phases: in the first phase the jury and the public will select two acts that will proceed to the “Superfinal”.  The public then will decide the winner in thee Superfinal.

Iceland, the land of ice and fire, has started seeking its representative for Eurovision 2023 through the national final Söngvakeppnin. A few minutes ago, the Second Semi-Final was completed, with two out of five competing contestants qualifying for the Grand Final.

Iceland: These are the entries of Söngvakeppnin 2023!

Iceland‘s public broadcaster RÚV will once again select the country’s participation in Eurovision 2023 through the national final Söngvakeppnin.

Among 132 songs, the experts jury was asked to select the 10 participants, who were recently announced in a special broadcast called #12 stig (12 points).

The 10 entries selected by the expert panel to compete in the semi-finals of Söngvakeppnin 2023, vying to represent the island of fire and ice at Eurovision 2023 are:

1st Semi-Final :

  1. BRAGI – Stundum snýst heimurinn gegn þér/ Sometimes the World´s Against You
  2. MÓA – Glötuð ást / Loose this dream
  3. Benedikt – Þora / Brave Face
  4. Celebs – Dómsdagsdans / Doomsday Dancing
  5. Diljá – Lifandi inni í mér / Power

2nd Semi-Final :

  1. Kristín Sesselja – Óbyggðir / Terrified
  2. Langi Seli og Skuggarnir – OK
  3. Silja Rós & Kjalar – Ég styð þína braut / Together we grow
  4.  Úlfar – Betri maður / Impossible

Provided last year’s rules apply, all candidates will perform their songs in Icelandic in the semi-finals, while in the final they will be able to perform the English-language versions.

The 2 semi-finals will take place on 18 and 25 February. From each semi-final, 2 out of 5 contestants will qualify for the final, which will take place on 4 March. The jury may select as a wildcard one of the 6 disqualified artists to compete in the final.

There will be 2 rounds in the final. In the first round, the audience and jury will choose which 2 will qualify to the Super Final, where the winner will be chosen exclusively by the TV audience.

Iceland was represented at Eurovision 2022 by Systur and their song “Með hækkandi sól”, finishing 23rd with 20 points.

Iceland: Participants of Söngvakeppnin 2023 to be announced on January 28th!

The Icelandic Public Broadcaster RÚV will choose its entry for Eurovision 2023 through Söngvakeppnin 2023, the winner of which will represent Iceland in Liverpool.

RÚV revealed that it received 132 songs for consideration, 28 songs less compared to Söngvakeppnin 2022. Today it was announced that the 10 selected finalists will be revealed on January 28th, during a special program called #12 stig (12 points).

Söngvakeppnin 2023 is scheduled to take place on the following dates:

  • First semi-final  – February 18th
  • Second semi-final – February 25th
  • Final – March 4th

Systur  represented Iceland in the final of Eurovision 2022 with “Með sárkandi sól “. They reached 23rd place, scoring a total of 23 points.
