Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal has the most views on TikTok?

Two days ago, the first rehearsals for all 37 entries officially concluded, and today the second rehearsals are expected to be completed, with the Big 5 and the host country Sweden taking the stage at the Malmö Arena for the second time! This means that we are getting closer to the Eurovision week, with the Dress and Jury Rehearsals for the first semi-final starting on Monday.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. However, the TikTok algorithm is usually able to detect the song used in the video, assign it to the correct track, and then include it in the total number of videos where that sound has been used. Based on this capability, the most popular songs before rehearsals were from the Netherlands and Italy. Will they receive the same promotion as before?

The ranking with all the entries (in brackets will be the day of the rehearsal) based on the increasing number of views after one week from the start of the first rehearsals on TikTok is as follows:

TikTok has played a significant role in the success of Eurovision songs in recent years. For example, Duncan Laurence’s winning entry “Arcade” became a global hit a year after winning the competition when it was used in over a million videos on TikTok. One of the earliest TikTok successes from Eurovision was Getter Jaani’s “Rockefeller Street”, which went viral on the platform in 2018 and has since been used in over two million videos. Let’s not forget that Armenia’s entry in 2022 by Rosa Linn with “Snap” gained over a billion views on the platform. Finally, Norway’s entry last year gained significant worldwide publicity months before the competition week, where it secured fifth place.

Eurovision 2024: Greece’s Second Rehearsal!

The third country of the second semi-final to hold its second rehearsal on the Malmö stage is Greece with Marina Satti. The acclaimed singer-songwriter will perform “Zari”, an upbeat track that combines Greek, Balkan and urban sounds.

Who is Marina Satti?

Over her career, the star has developed a unique sound that combines the different musical traditions she grew up with, such as Greek, Arabic and Balkan.

Having represented Greece in the EBU’s Euroradio Jazz Orchestra with works by Peter Herbolzheimer; singing at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington with the World Jazz Nonet; and participating in the a cappella vocal group The Singing Tribe in collaboration with Bobby McFerrin, it’s safe to say that Marina is an artist who defies categorisation.

In May 2022, Satti released her first full-length album YENNA, while in 2023 she experimented by delivering the short documentary FLABOURO, as well as TUCUTUM, a song-commentary on Balkan trap, which went viral that summer.

The Rehearsal

In terms of staging, Marina brings the same sass and attitude we saw in the official video – the kilt has been swapped for a shiny purple dress with a puffball skirt, paired with black heeled boots. Marina has four backing dancers – three male, one female – who join Marina to fuse precision street dance moves with traditional elements. There’s lots of close-up camerawork – Marina really connects with the TV audience, and it looks great live on stage too.

In terms of graphics, there’s loads of colour and energy – with neon pink floating ZARI graphics on the cubes, and grafitti-style visuals on the LED wall bringing that same urban vibe we saw in the official video.

It’s also another track this year with deep bass, so the TA TA TA really vibrates through the floor of the arena. Officially a banger.

There are no changes with regard to the first rehearsal.

Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal had the most views on the third day?

Yesterday, rehearsals continued energetically, with the Malmö Arena hosting the first eight countries of the second semifinal! Be sure to also read our article from yesterday regarding the views of the eight countries that completed their rehearsals on Sunday.

In less than 24 hours (April 30, 2024, time  CET), since the first clip from the rehearsals was uploaded, we have a indicative sample of which rehearsal was favored by the audience (here it should be noted that the videos were uploaded one after the other with a one and a half hour interval and there was a significant delay in their publication).

The rehearsals that had the most views are:

  1. Greece: Marina Satti – ZARI – 1.6 million views
  2. Switzerland: Nemo – The Code – 391 thousand views
  3. Albania: Besa – TiTan – 221.7 thousand views
  4. Austria: Kaleen – We Will Rave – 199.4 thousand views
  5. Armenia: LADANIVA – Jako – 183 thousand views
  6. Malta: Sarah Bonnici – Loop –  175.3 thousand views
  7. Czechia: Aiko – Pedestal – 165.2 thousand views
  8. Denmark: SABA – SAND – 156.7 thousand views

With this small sample, we can infer that:

  • It’s worth noting that with the first rehearsal of the Greek entry has been published 18 hours prior, within this timeframe, ZARI achieved a record number of views compared to any other entry in previous years – where TikTok is used as a platform for posting snapshots of the first rehearsals. The Greek entry seems to have resonance across Europe as it has gathered 170 thousand likes.
  • Second in the ranking is the favorite for victory, Switzerland, which trails the Greek entry by 4 times in views.
  • Many rearrangements can occur between the fourth and eighth positions since there are countries whose rehearsals were published at the end of the day, resulting in them not receiving enough publicity.

The top six countries with the most views from the two days are as follows:

  1. Greece: Marina Satti – ZARI – 1.6 million views
  2. Poland: LUNA – The Tower – 1.2 milion views
  3. Serbia: Teya Dora – Ramonda – 842.2 thousand views
  4. Ukraine: alyona alyona & Jerry Heil – Teressa & Maria – 817.7 thousand views
  5. Croatia: Baby Lasagna – Rim Tim Tagi Dim – 682.7 thousand views

Greece: Marina Satti’s performance in Malmö – in detail!

With less than a week from Greece’s first technical rehearsal in Malmö Arena, some very important information on Marina Satti’s stage performance was revealed on Greek Television.

In detail, Yiannis Poulopoulos on “Super Katerina” confirmed that Greece’s stage performance will be filmed in a single-shot. Throughout the song, a camera will follow Marina Satti and the dancers. However, in the last part of “Zari” more distant shots will be used depicting the stage and the Malmö Arena audience, who is expected to respond enthusiastically to “Zari“.

Moreover, we will see Marina Satti on the background too, along with some lyrics of “Zari“. The graphics are designed by NMR.

When it comes to the choreography, a part of it will remain the same as we have seen in the music video. However and obviously in the song’s bridge, we will see a traditional Greek circular dance, so the Greek element will still be present in the performance. Ηandkerchiefs will also be used.

No props shall be expected

We come to inform you that, contrary to what many may anticipate, there won’t be fires, fireworks, etc., as the Greek delegation aims to impress us with the full three minutes rather than just a cool shot. Also, Fokas Evangelinos has not prepared something “special” equal to what he has done in the past.

We would like to remind you that Mecnun Giasar is the choreographer and Fokas Evangelinos is the artistic director of this year’s Greek entry.

ERT along with the artistic team that has taken over are all satisfied with the final result and Marina Satti is ready for her first technical rehearsal on Monday 29/04.

EXCLUSIVE: Mads Enggaard will be the director of TV coverage for the Greek entry!

The Eurovision team of ERT, the Greek public broadcaster, is full of pleasant surprises this year. According to the exclusive and valid information of Eurovisionfun, the talented and experienced director, named Mads Enggaard, with years of experience both in Eurovision and other big projects, is going to be the director of the TV coverage for the Greek entry in Eurovision 2024!

Another professional in his job, is added to the Greek Eurovision team for 2024. The Danish director, Mads Enggaard will be the director of the TV broadcast for ERT. That means he will be in charge of the footage, we’ll see on our screens.

Mads Enggaard has great experience in the contest, having previously directed a number of entries, with his greatest achievement being Denmark’s “Only Teardrops”, which won Eurovision 2013. He has also directed famous TV shows in his country, like “The Masked Singer”, and the “X Factor”, which he is directing this season.

So now, alongside the artistic director Fokas Evangelinos, the choregrapher Mecnun Giasar (Majnoon) and NMR who are in charge of the art direction, Mads Enggaard is added to the team, taking over the TV footage of the live broadcast.

We remind you that according to what Marina Satti revealed, the whole staging of the Greek entry, is based on an idea of Fokas Evangelinos. This whole conversation in the last days, along the positive reviews and streams on digital platforms, have helped “Zari” climb higher and higher in the betting odds, reaching the seventh place as of now.

It seems obvious, that the team of Dora Chiraki, who is in charge of the Eurovision project for ERT this year, wants to remove last year’s incidents from our memory, that tarnished our image in the contest.

Translated Lyrics

Pain, may it not come, hopefully
I fall and roll like a dice
I pretend to forget your name
And everything around me changes suddenly

Where will the wind take us?
I fall and roll like a dice
I pretend to forget your scent
And everything around me changes

I’m gonna do it my way
I’ll be coming in and out of your mind
Because you didn’t give me your hand
Not even to hold onto
I once had pain hidden for you
I let everything out

Let’s go
Put your hands up
I’m pretending it wasn’t a lie
Throw one last time
And let it bring us whatever comes next
(TA TA TA TA TA)

(TA TA TA TA TA TA)
And let it bring us whatever comes next
TA TA TA TA TA
Let it bring us whatever comes next
(TA TA TA TA TA TA)
And even if it brings us whatever comes next
(TA TA TA TA TA TA)
Let it bring us whatever comes next

Let me not remember
The hours I almost went crazy
Let me not remember
You didn’t believe
That karma is real

Let’s go
Put your hands up
I’m pretending it wasn’t a lie
Throw one last time
And let it bring us whatever comes next
(TA TA TA TA TA TA)

Alone, I stay
I’m always waiting for you
I tremble like a flame
Like a lit match
When it burns out
Regret consumes me
Alone, I die if you’re elsewhere

(TA TA TA TA TA TA)
And let it bring us whatever comes next
(TA TA TA TA TA TA)
Let it bring us whatever comes next
(TA TA TA TA TA TA)
And even if it brings us whatever comes next
(TA TA TA TA TA TA)
Let it bring us whatever comes next

Pain, may it not come, hopefully
I fall and roll like a dice
I pretend to forget your name
And everything around me changes suddenly

Where will the wind take us?
I fall and roll like a dice
I pretend to forget your scent
And everything around me changes suddenly

(TA TA TA TA TA TA)
And let it bring us whatever comes next
(TA TA TA TA TA TA)
Let it bring us whatever comes next
And even if it brings us whatever comes next
(TA TA)

The song is penned by Marina Satti herself, along with Palmer Jordan Richard, Stolar Jay Lewit, OGE, Beshkov Konstantin Plamenov, Nick Kodonas, Gino the Ghost, Vlospa, and Solmeister.
