Monaco: TVMONACO starts operations in September, 2023!
Public broadcaster TVMONACO will start operations on September 1st, 2023.
After some delays in the launching of the new public broadcaster, now there is a confirmed date. The channel will start operations on September 1, 2023 under the managment of Salim Zegdhar and Nathalie Biancolli. The channel will reveal more details about the launching on April 18 at MIPTV.
TVMONACOhas begun preparations for this important date. The team is set to move to the studios and and offices in Fontvieille in July, 2023.
This could be the first step for a return of Monaco to the Eurovision Song Contest. According to previous reports, the Principality of Monaco allocated 100,000 Euros in the 2022 budget towards a return to the Eurovision Song Contest. However, the path for a Monegasque return to Eurovision is not settled yet.
TVMONACO will need to apply and gain membership in the European Broadcaster Union should they wish to participate at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
Monaco participated at the Eurovision Song Contest from 1959 until 1979. During that period they even managed to win the contest in 1971 with the song “Un banc, un arbre, une rue” by Séverine. After 25 years of absence Monaco returned in 2004 for three years. However, the country did not manage to get to the Finals in their last three attempts to participate.
