Austria: Conchita Wurst will not submit a song for Eurovision 2024!

In the middle of the summer, during the so-called post Eurovision depression period, there was another Eurovision winner interested in taking part again, after Loreen’s second win. Namely, Conchita Wurst was expected to submit a song to the Austrian public broadcaster for Eurovision 2024, but as things turn out, she is not interested.

ΟRF’s radio producers Eberhard Forcher and Peter Schreiber, are responsible to scout the music industry to find the new representative of Austria, for Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

Eberhard Forcher, who has been working with ORF since 2017 said:

“There’s no need for songs that are just nice or casual. We are only looking for songs with a unique selling point.”

Music journalist Schreiber (“Austrozone”) made an Instagram post, calling local artists to apply their songs, and so, the first rumours rised.

Conchita Wurst saw and commented on that post with a heart emojiwhich German media understood as a sign that Conchita wanted to compete in Malmö, and get her second win in the contest after Loreen. But as it seems now, the artist says that she doesn’t intend to do that and isn’t even looking for a suitable song for the contest either:

“It took me years to realize my victory nine years ago and everything that happened around it, and I’m ready to say: Now someone else can win for Austria again. My emoji was just a spontaneous action.”

Forcher and Schreiber have already approached more than a dozen acts directly, but any artist that has a suitable song and would like to submit it for the contest, can do so untile the 30th of September. A jury panel set by ORF, will evaluate all of the songs and select the most suitable one for the contest among the candidates. The decision should be made until the end of January.

This year, Austria was represented by Teya & Salena and their song “Who The Hell is Edgar”, ending up in 15th place while also taking their country to the final, after three consecutive non-qualifications:
