Eurovision 2023: Spain’s second rehearsal!

It’s now time for Spain to take the stage in Liverpool. This year the country is represented by Blanka Paloma and the song “EaEa“.

Who is Blanka Paloma?

Blanca Paloma Ramos Baeza, born and raised in Elche, Spain, is a Spanish singer, costume designer and set designer. She tried to represent Spain for the first time last year, taking part in Benidorm Fest 2022 with the song “Secreto de agua”, finishing fifth overall. She returned to this year’s edition of the festival, competing with the song “EaEa” winning both the jury and public vote and therefore, getting the right to represent Spain in Eurovision 2023.

The rehearsal

Unfortunately this year, accredited journalists don’t get the chance to watch the first and second rehearsals, so we only get the information and content that the organizers officially release to the public through eurovision.tv and the official social media accounts of the contest.

Sarah Louise Bennett / EBU

The performance is similar to the one in Benidorm Fest 2023. On stage we see two semi-circular structures in red, with Blanka being accompanied by 5 five dancers. There is a lot of drama in this performance, with the led walls being in black, red and white. No major changes are made in the second rehearsal. Blanka’s vocals are once again flawless. This entry is different from the one Spain sent last year, having a distinct Spanish identity. We only have to wait and see the final placing of the song next Saturday.

Tonight, after the completion of all the second rehearsals of the Big 6, a recap video will be released with 30-second snippets of the performances, giving us a glimpse of how the acts will look on stage.

The song is an R&B powerful track that speaks for those who are unbreakable no matter what they face in life. Four led boxes are on the stage while Andrii and Jimoh are accompanied by two dancers. The song has had a revamp, with strings being added at the last part of the song. During this section, flames are added in the stage performance. Lithuania: Monika Linkyte’s dress will be changed again!

As we saw in the photos and videos published from the first two rehearsals of Lithuania, Monika Linkyte appeared in two different dresses, which gathered mostly negative comments.

The costume changes apparently do not stop, as the Lithuanian delegation is obviously not yet satisfied. LRT confirmed that Monika’s dress will undergo more changes before the live performances.

Greta Žvinklytė, the Lithuanian delegation’s stylist explained:

The dress is not completely finished yet, it will definitely be changed a little bit. The designer hasn’t slept for the last few days and has been working hard to improve and complete the dress. So, there will definitely be more changes.

The new dress, in amber, has been created by London-based designer Omar Bayoumi. The colour was chosen because of its importance in Baltic mythology and Monika’s special connection to it.

Below you can see the dresses that Monika Linkyte wore in her first two rehearsals:

Who is Monika Linkytė?

It could be second time lucky for Monika Linkytė, as she had previously competed at Eurovision in 2015 alongside Vaidas Baumila with the song ‘This Time’.

This year the singer earned herself another opportunity through Lithuania’s national selection show, Pabandom Iš Naujo!, and brings soaring melodies to the Contest with her new entry Stay.

The song is grounded in local folklore, with the lyrics ‘Čiūto Tūto’ often used in Lithuanian folk dances as magical incantations.

Music has been a part of Monika’s life since childhood, and from the moment she first laid her fingers on the piano keys, it became clear to her that music would be a constant companion in her life.

Eurovision 2023: Italy’s second rehearsal!

Time for Marco Mengoni and Italy to take the stage and rehearse for the second time his song “Due Vite”.

Who is Marco Mengoni?

Gaining fame by winning the third season of the Italian X-Factor in 2009, Marco Mengoni is one of the most popular singers in Italy. He has released seven studio albums, collectively achieving a remarkable 69-times platinum certification. With over 2.8 million records sold in Italy, Marco has consistently topped the Italian albums chart seven times in a row and secured fifteen entries in the Top 10 Italian Singles Chart. In addition, he won the Sanremo Festival twice, in 2013 and most recently this year, joining the ranks of a select few Italian artists who have achieved this feat twice in the festival’s history. As a result, he is not new to the Eurovision world. Following his initial Sanremo victory, he participated in the 2013 contest held in Malmö, where he finished 7th place with his entry “L’essenziale!”

The rehearsal

Unfortunately this year, accredited journalists don’t get the chance to watch the first and second rehearsals, so we only get the information and content that the organizers officially release to the public through eurovision.tv and the official social media accounts of the contest.

Marco is bringing a new outfit for his second rehearsal, a longer silver vest this time that is fading to black as an ombre effect. Sparkles are also added to one part of his trousers. We remind you that it was announced that he will have different outfits every time he gets to perform the song during Eurovision 2023. Two dancers and a staircase prop are behind him while we see a big moon displayed on the led wall. Once again, Italy delivers a high-quality performance which will most likely be on the left-hand side of the scoreboard.

Eurovision 2023: France’s second rehearsal!

The next country to have its second rehearsal today is France with La Zarra and “ Évidemment

Who is La Zarra?

Fatima-Zahra Hafdi, known with her artist name La Zarra, was internally selected by France Télévisions to represent France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, making her the second Canadian singer to represent the country after Natasha St-Pier in 2001.

As a self-taught musician, La Zarra embodies the style and essence of iconic figures like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe, while also embracing the tragic sensibility reminiscent of Édith Piaf. Her breakthrough came in 2016 with the release of her debut single “Printemps blanc,” a collaboration with French rapper Niro. In 2021, her popularity soared with the success of the single “Tu t’en iras,” which received extensive airplay. This achievement led to her nomination for the NRJ Music Awards, one of the most prestigious music awards in France, in the category of Francophone Revelation of the Year. Adding to her accomplishments, La Zarra’s debut and currently only album, “Traîtrise,” further contributed to her rising fame.

The Rehearsal

Unfortunately this year, accredited journalists don’t get the chance to watch the first and second rehearsals, so we only get the information and content that the organizers officially release to the public through eurovision.tv and the official social media accounts of the contest.

Sarah Louise Bennett / EBU

As we saw from the first rehearsal snippet, La Zarra is elevated on a shimmering platform adorned with sparkles, dressed in a form-fitting gown crafted entirely from black and red sequins. The ‘platform’ is actually a moving column five meters tall, draped in sparkly black fabric all the way to the floor. The fabric disappears to reveal a cylindrical column with a mirror-tiled top. At the end of the performance there is pyro and the french flag appears on the led wall behind La Zarra. This is very French, dramatic, very Eurovision, as the eurovision.tv blog live feed describes. And that’s why we are looking forward to see the full performance!

Eurovision 2023: Germany’s second rehearsal!

Good morning! Today is the seventh day of the Eurovision 2023 rehearsals and the Big 5 plus last year’s winner Ukraine, will have their second rehearsal at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool. You can find the schedule of today’s rehearsals here.

Germany is the first country to take the stage today and rehearse for the second time. The country is represented by Lord of the Lost and the song “Blood&Glitter“.

Who is Lord of the Lost?

Lord of the Lost is a band from Hamburg, Germany that has gained a significant following in Germany’s industrial rock scene. Initially started as a solo project by lead singer Chris Harms in 2007 the band released their debut single Dry the Rain and first album Fears in 2009 and 2010 respectively. Today, they have a total of eight albums in their discography, with their most recent four reaching the top 10 of the German charts. Their latest album, named after their Eurovision entry “Blood & Glitter”, quickly reached the number one spot on German charts just six days after pre-orders were made. Their recent European tour was sold out and after the contest, they will be supporting Iron Maiden on tour!

The rehearsal

Unfortunately this year, accredited journalists don’t get the chance to watch the first and second rehearsals, so we only get the information and content that the organizers officially release to the public through eurovision.tv and the official social media accounts of the contest.

The stage performance is similar to the one in the national final but definitely upgraded. On stage there is a metal construction in a triangle form where 2 of the band members are placed higher than the rest, while red and black are the primary colors on the led screens. Flashing lights make the performance more impactful while pyro and red flames are used. Such a dynamic performance! Seems that Germany will not be on the last places of the leaderboard this year.

Sweden: Loreen comments on her Eurovision 2023 rehearsals!

Big favorite to win Eurovision 2023, Loreen, commented on her rehearsals and renewed stage appearance.

In an interview with SVT after her second rehearsal, Loreen said that she wanted to keep the same stage concept in Liverpool, bringing to the M & S Bank Arena the same vision she had in Melodifestivalen.

Due to the smaller platform, Loreen explained that she had to change some elements of her choreography, but also to get used to the new size of the structure herself.

The big problem, as was seen both in Melodifestivalen and in Liverpool, is the amount of smoke, since there is a risk of being covered by it.

It is the law of nature, everything is alive. And I like the way that you don’t really know, you can’t direct smoke anyway. Just as it is not possible to direct nature in any way, you cannot say Tree, grow! and expect it to happen.

Loreen remains the favorite to win, although she has seen her odds grow since the end of the rehearsals and Finland closing in dangerously close to her.

Sweden competes in the 11th place in the 1st Semi-Final on Tuesday 9 May.
