The talent show that will be used as a selection method for Cyprus in Eurovision 2024 will be Fame Story, which will be broadcast from September by the Cypriot National Broadcaster CyBC/RIK and by the Greek Chanel STAR. EurovisionFun spoke to the people of RIK and they bring you all the exclusive coverage with the first details of what we will see very soon. Until that, you can also read our previous article with the General Director of RIK announcing that there will be a selection process for Eurovision 2024.

“Fame Story” will be broadcast via RIK and STAR

Finally, the plans for the national selection are on going, with RIK, PANIK Records and Barking Well Media to cooperate for the “Fame Story” show. The show will return after many years in the Greek/Cypriot spotlight but quite different from the last one. This news was reported earlier this mornning from Super Katerina Morning Show

Some of the first details are that, during this summer, castings for the talent show will take place in various cities of Greece, Cyprus and foreign countries. The plan is that the show will to stast broadcasting from September with the final taking place during the Christmas holidays, so there will be plenty of time to find the right song and for the artist to get prepaired in order to represnt Cyprus to the 68th Eurovision Song Contest.

An episode will be broadcast daily in the afternoon, with scenes from the academy. The program will be marked as suitable for all. So don’t expect to see much of their daily life, like a regular reality show. Everythimg we will see will focus on the development and progress of the academy students, so we will see their lessons, rehearsals and in general their preperation for the weekly live.

Sixteen artists will be chosen for the music academy, with one of the artists leaving each week in the live show. Discussions have already began with famous artists to be a member of the jury. One of them is Anna Vissi, the Greek Representative when Greece hosted the contest back in 2006.

At the end of this month, people of the national broadcaster will be in Athens to formalize the concept. Afterwards, there will be a relevant trailer calling for artists who would like to participate on the talent show and represent Cyprus in the song contest.

This year, Cyprus managed to achieve their second best result after Eleni Foureira in 2018. Andrew Lambrou finished 12th in the Grand Final with the song Break A Broken Heart.

After Loreen’s win in the 67th Eurovision Song Contest in Saturday, the contest is now going to Northern Europe, in Sweden. Sweden’s win is only the beginning, of the first phase of the contest, finding out which Swedish city is going to host.

According to Malmö’s Recreation Director, speaking to Sydsvenskan, the city of Malmö is ready to submit its bid in order to host Eurovision 2024.

Malmö Arena, which hosted the contest back in 2013, is the secomd biggest venue in the country after Tele2 and Friends Arena in Stockholm. However, Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh, Malmö’s president of the Municipal Council, stated that before submitting their bid, they have to consider the financial consequences of hosting an event of that magnitude.

We can say that Malmö is an expert in hosting the contest, having done so twice, back in 1992 and 2013, after Loreen’s first win.

Eurovision 2024: Stockholm’s football teams don’t want to move out for Eurovision!

The first problems regarding the hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 have already arisen. Avicii Arena (Globen) is scheduled to be under renovation in 2024 and Stockholm’s football teams are not eager to move out for the Contest.

Stockholm is the favourite city to host the Eurovision Song Contest next year, but three football teams have already cleared out that they won’t move out of their home ground for Eurovision. Avicii Arena that hosted the Contest back in 2000 and in 2016 is scheduled to be under renovation next year, thus leaving Tele2 Arena and Friends Arena as the most viable choices.

Mattis Fri the Chairman of Hammarby’s Men’s team which plays at the Tele2 told Dagens Nyheter that:

“I have no problem with Eurovision, but Tele2 is a football arena and that is what it should primarily be used for. We can’t help but play a quarter of a season just because it’s Eurovision, it’s impossible. Six weeks is a very long period, especially during high season such as April and May.”

Mr Fri explains that moving all three football teams to play out of the same venue is not feasible due to the number of matches and that the natural grass at the Friends Arena could not sustain such intense use. Robert Falck the Chairman of AIK who play at the Friend Arena agrees:

“We have just received the happy news and everything is very new. For Tele2 arena and Friends arena, Eurovision falls in the middle of a football season. We start dialogues about when Eurovision wants to enter in such cases and how we can plan around other events. More than that is hard to say”

Andorra: Susanne Georgi continues pushing for Andorran return to Eurovision

Susanne Georgi is committed to see Andorra back again at the Eurovision Song Contest.  The former Andorran representative has advocated for a return of the country to Eurovision and she continues discussing with Andorran stakeholders as the Eurovision Song Contest is taking place in Liverpool.

For instance, she met with CCMA to talk about her campaign and the importance of bringing back the Catalan language to the Eurovision stage:

“I’ve had meetings with politicians and with a lot of people, I’ve been with this project for 5-6 years.”

In 2022, Ms. Georgi stated that she had reached a verbal agreement with the Andorran government for the country to return that year.  However, this promise was not met.  Two years later, Susanne Georgi has not given up.

“The excuse before was that there was no money, I have already found the money and I think that every day we are closer to it. I don’t know if it will be in 2024 or 2 or 4 years from now, but if we go back , we’ll be back for sure .”

Denmark: Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will remain Danish national final for 2024!

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix will remain the Danish national selection for Eurovision one more year.

Unfortunately, Denmark has not succeed to qualify for a third year in a row.  However, there are reasons to keep DMGP as the national selection although there will be some improvements for the 2024 edition of this national selection.

According to the Head of Melodi Grand Prix to DR, Erik Struve Hansen, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix remains popular in the nordic country becoming a tradition:

“No, I can’t imagine that. There are so many traditions around Dansk Melodi Grand Prix, and it is one of the most watched programs of its kind in Denmark over the course of an entire year.

It has been a tradition that we have gathered around for decades, and I think it can do a lot of things in its own right as a large, unifying event around which we meet and have opinions about. It would be a shame to tinker”

Following the most recent results, public broadcaster DR is planning to improve their national selection for the future.  Mr Struve Hansen commented about their strategy:

We are already in the process of looking at what strategy we will have for next year’s Grand Prix musically. That work already started before Eurovision, and we will continue with it.
