Eurovision 2022: 41 countries joining the 66th contest in Turin!

Public broadcasters from 41 countries will take part in the Eurovision Song Contest when it returns to our screens next May.

Fans of the Contest will welcome back ARMTV from Armenia and RTCG from Montenegro, both taking to the stage for the first time since Tel Aviv in 2019.

It’s also a special year for Norwegian broadcaster NRK as they will be celebrating the selection of their 60th Eurovision entry during the Melodi Grand Prix grand final on Saturday 19 February.

We will also witness the 300th ‘Big Five’ performance – that’s a song from one of either France, Germany, Italy, Spain or United Kingdom.

Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, shared his thoughts on the line-up:

‘We are so excited that we once again have over 40 broadcasters competing to win the iconic Eurovision trophy in Turin next May.

The team from Rai are working hard on preparations to welcome all the delegations to a new Host City and ensuring the Eurovision Song Contest will provide the excitement and state-of-the-art spectacle expected by nearly 200 million viewers.’

On the announcement of the 41 participants, Simona Martorelli and Claudio Fasulo from Italian broadcaster Rai added:

‘After 31 years, Italy is proud to host the Eurovision Song Contest again! As Executive Producers, we are incredibly excited to set up this amazing event and welcome delegations from 41 nations to Turin next year.

Above all, we strongly believe the Eurovision Song Contest will allow us to showcase and share the beauty of Italy with a global audience via the elements that unite us all: music and harmony.’

The Italian city of Turin won the race to become the Host City of the 66th Eurovision Song Contest, setting Saturday 14 May as the date of the Grand Final, which will be held in PalaOlimpico along with two Semi-Finals on 10 and 12 May.

Finland: Robin is considering Eurovision participation

He is one of the biggest teen pop superstars in Finland.  For years fans have hoped to see him representing his home country in Eurovision.  And they may finally see their wish come true.  Born in Turku, Finland Robin Packalen started his music career when he was only 10.  After several successful pop albums in Finnish, he is trying to enter the international music industry singing in English.

Robin is currently promoting his new EP Rest In Beat PM.

In an interview for public broadcaster Yle, Robin talked about his recent career.  He talked about how the last few months have been difficult for him because of the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic.  Robin was preparing to enter the international market.  He released his first English track I’ll be with you in 2019.  However, his first studio album and tour planned for 2020 were suspended until very recently.  Currently he and his team have tried to enter the Asian music market.  They focused their efforts in particular in China and South Korea.  He already collaborated with K-pop singer Saay.  A collaboration with Swedish pop singer Darin (a potential Melodifestivalen 2022 hopeful) is on the table.

Moreover, Robin told that he has started seriously considering a Eurovision participation.

For the last ten years, I’ve been saying no to Eurovision. However, it is starting to look like a credible option. It’s under consideration

It is very likely that if Finnish public broadcaster wants Robin to wave the Finnish flag in Turin, they will have to internally select him.  That was Yle’s preferred option in 2018 and 2019 when Finland internally select Finnish superstars Saara Aalto and Darude.

Vaccine Hallelujah! Mr. Lordi got fully vaccinated against covid

Mr. Lordi took his second covid-vaccine in Rovaniemi, Finland.  The lead singer of the band Lordi and 2006 Eurovision winner got fully vaccinated in a public event.  The aim of this public event was to encourage more people to get their two doses of the vaccine.

Mr. Lordi was not the only Finnish celebrity participating in this campaign.  Santa Claus also announced that (due to his age) he had taken the second shot of the covid vaccine.  According to Markku Broas, Chief Physician of Infectious Diseases of the Lapland Hospital District (LSHP) the event was a success.  The number of people who attended the event to get their vaccine, in particular young people increased after the event.

They put a big needle in my arm, and that’s exactly why I came here. This was my second vaccine dose

Mr. Lordi also reflected on the effects of the pandemic.  Because of the ongoing pandemic Mr. Lordi “can no longer recall” how many times his band had to postpone or cancel tour dates.  However, he has been productive during this time.

Lordi has been working in Rovaniemi, Finland.  The Eurovision winners have recorded seven albums during the epidemic.

Finland: Blind Channel participates in UMK 2021 because of the pandemic!

Blind Channel, the metal rock band, which is the big favorite to represent Finland in Eurovision 2021, opened its papers at Eurovision Buddies! They explain the meaning of the Dark Side, the reasons that led them to participate in UMK 2021, but also their goal in Eurovision, if of course they are selected. Although they say they can not reveal much about their stage appearance, they claim that it will be explosive and will be the biggest thing they have ever done!

Dark Side is very different from what other artists have. That’s why it has become so successful and I really like it!

Finland: Listen to Ilta’s song for UMK 2021!

Moments ago the Finnish broadcaster YLE released the seventh song of UMK, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is the song of Ilta, Kelle mä soitan.

Ilta’s moving ballad, Kelle mä soitan (“Who Will I Call”) is a specific depiction of what it is like to live in loneliness.

Ilta Elina Fuchs was born in 1997 in Finland. She became famous through her song Sillat (“Bridges”) in a duet with Finnish rap Cheek. Last fall, Ilta released Näitä hetkiä varten’s debut album (“For These Moments”). As a little girl, Ilta sang songs that had a strong presence and a sensitive core, and she wants her music to have the same effect on her audience. Ilta has been thinking for a long time, if she would participate in UMK. In the end, the opportunity to sing to everyone in Finland and the opportunity to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest to an audience of over 180 million people overcame any hesitation.

You could be in the middle of a crowd and feel incredibly alone. It’s one of the most difficult emotions a person can have as we connect with others. I hope my song can offer everyone a little hope and comfort, whether they feel lonely or not. Although it does not contain an explicit message of survival, I hope it can make people feel that they are not alone.

The seven artists who will claim the golden ticket to Rotterdam are:

Oskr – Lie
Teflon Brothers x Pandora – I Love You
Danny – Sinä päivänä kun kaikki rakastaa mua
Laura – Play
Aksel – Hurt
Blind Channel – Dark Side
Ilta – Kelle mä soitan

The songs that will compete in the grand final of UMK 2021, which will be held on February 20, will be announced one every day, as follows:

January 14 – Oskr – Lie
January 15 – Teflon Brothers x Pandora – I Love You

Eurovision 2021: The song of Blind Channel brought Finland to the top of the bets!

The – so far – situation has been overturned by the release of the Blind Channel song for UMK 2021. The unique heavy metal sound of “Dark Side” has raised Finland to the top of the bets.

Counting almost 115,000 views after its first 21 hours of release, Blind Channel’s participation managed to dethrone the artists who were going to participate in Eurovision 2020 from the top of the betting predictions.

As of noon, Iceland, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Russia were at the top of the betting table. The first two have already chosen their representatives last year, Lithuania is waiting for the song of The Roop and Russia is very likely to recruit the unconventional Little Big for another year.

Within hours, the Nordic country saw its winning odds fall from 30 to 8, climbing to the top of the list of the two betting companies currently providing odds for winning Eurovision 2021.

Of course, we should not ignore the fact that both companies are not purely bookmakers, but odds exchange. In these exchanges, everyone interested bets against other players and not against the platforms.

The sharp drop in Finland’s performance just hours after the official release of the Blind Channel song clearly shows a trend, with fans of the contest wanting Finland to return to its rock roots.

And with the popular band “Suomi” have this very opportunity, to give the Eurovision audience a sound that has been missed a lot from the competition.

Whether Blind Channel will eventually prevail in the Finnish national final and represent their country in the 65th Pan-European Song Contest is unknown. However, the chances are on their side and possibly their dynamics will allow Finland to return to the top ten for the first time since 2006 and the victory of the Lordi in Athens.

Finland: Listen to Aksel’s song for UMK 2021!

The Finnish broadcaster YLE released the fourth song of UMK, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is the song of Aksel, Hurt.

Hurt is a powerful but sensitive ballad and you mention how deceptive it can look.

Aksel Kankaanranta was born on January 28, 1998 in Turku, Finland. He was the winner of UMK 2020 and the representative of Finland at the Eurovision 2020 Song Contest in Rotterdam with the song Looking Back. Although his victory last year did not take him to Rotterdam, it gave him other opportunities, such as working with the best producers in Finland where he also released a song in Finnish. Aksel believes he is better prepared and ready to regain his throne as Finland’s next representative in the Eurovision Song Contest.

One may look okay on the outside, but one could still have terrible pain on the inside. When you are in pain, you also end up with those you love. I have had this experience, so I can really identify with this message. My song is also a reminder that you do not need to be anyone but you, Aksel concludes.

The seven artists who will claim the golden ticket to Rotterdam are:

Oskr – Lie
Teflon Brothers x Pandora – I Love You
Danny – Sinä päivänä kun kaikki rakastaa mua
Laura – Play
Aksel – Hurt
Blind Channel – Dark Side
Ilta – Kelle mä soitan

Finland: Listen to Laura’s song for UMK 2021!

Some minutes ago, the Finnish broadcaster YLE released the fourth song of UMK 2021, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is Laura’s song, “Play”.

Play is an irresistible combination of country and pop music. Its lyrics focus on a relationship inside and outside where one person is bored with constantly forgiving the other.

I want my fans to open their hearts to me and find the strength and support they need to move on in their lives and relationships.

Laura Põldvere, born in August 30, 1988, is known as Laura, and is an Estonian singer. She represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 as a member of the band Suntribe and again represented her country at Eurovision 2017 in a duet with Koit Toome with the song “Verona”.

She is one of the most popular artists on Estonian radios in the last decade. Also her first album in 2007 was one of the most popular albums of the decade. Laura has been in Finland for a long time since she was a little girl. Today, she usually spends half a year in Finland as part of her music and professional career. Her tenth album, released in the winter of 2019, was created in Finland and she has also started learning Finnish. Laura believes that joining UMK will help strengthen her position in her new homeland. The last spark for her participation in was lit last spring, when she participated in the international jury of UMK.

The seven artists who will claim the golden ticket to Rotterdam are:

Oskr – Lie

Finland: Listen to Danny’s song for UMK 2021!

Some mintes ago, the Finnish broadcaster YLE released the third song of UMK, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is Danny’s song, “Sinä päivänä kun kaikki rakastaa mua”.

“Sinä päivänä kun kaikki rakastaa mua” (The day everyone loves me) is a song with a unique and melancholic rhythm that according to Danny, is not a farewell song. Lkka Johannes Lipsanen, born September 24, 1942, known as Danny, is a Finnish singer and guitarist. Although you may not believe it he is still active in the song industry. Danny’s career is one of the longest in Finland and it is certainly over 50 years old. He has recorded many successful songs. He has done thousands of concerts in more than 20 countries around the world and has collaborated with the best Finnish composers and producers since the 60’s. With over 100 songs in the top charts of the country.

It’s about how life is a gift, but how you can never be sure how long it will last – only that it will end. My song aims to be humorous with a real theme. Although its lyrics may not represent Eurovision, it is an ambitious endeavor that represents a perspective rarely approached in pop music.
