OGAE Poll 2024: The results from Spain!

Every year since 2007, OGAE International conducts the OGAE Poll, which includes the votes of its members from 42 different countries. After three countries submitted their votes, it is now Spain’s turn to cast its votes.

In detail, the 202 members of OGAE Spain voted as following:

  • 12 points to Croatia
  • 10 points to Italy
  • 8 points to France
  • 7 points to United Kingdom
  • 6 points to Sweden
  • 5 points to Belgium
  • 4 points to Switzerland
  • 3 points to Austria
  • 2 points to Greece
  • 1 point to the Lithuania

The results following the votes of four countries are the following:

Italy and Croatia are leading the scoreboard while Belgium and Switzerland are just a few points behind.

Spain: Details revealed for Nebulossa’s performance!

Spanish TV broadcaster RTVE has revealed further details about the staging of Nebulossa and their song “Zorra” at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.

RTVE, in disclosing the details of how “Zorra” will be performed at Eurovision 2024 in Malmö, also announced Juan Sebastián and Israel Reyes as the artistic directors.

The aforementioned duo previously oversaw the performance of “Zorra” at Benidorm Fest 2024 and are described as experienced artistic directors and stage designers, having worked on various television programs and events in the past.

Sebastián and Reyes revealed to RTVE that they immediately fell in love with “Zorra” and have an exceptional collaboration with Nebulossa members María Bas and Mark Dasousa, stating that they have their complete trust.

Furthermore, RTVE reveals that Vero Mejía has joined the team as the choreographer for Nebulossa’s performance and promises to create an exceptional show in Malmö:

All elements are being added, and the package is being designed by the artistic direction as a 360° concept – visuals, costumes, choreography, lighting, and production. With these, we have adjusted all the necessary elements to create the best package so that the Spanish delegation arrives in Malmö with a compact product and attention to detail.

Nebulossa is a duo from Ondara in the Valencian Community of southeastern Spain, consisting of singer María “Mery” Bas and producer Mark Dasousa. The couple has been married for 20 years and has two children.

Nebulossa was chosen as the representatives for Eurovision 2024 after their victory at Benidorm Fest 2024, and they will perform their song “Zorra” in the Grand Final on May 11 as well as in the Second Semi-Final!

Eurovision 2024: The running order of the semifinals has been revealed!

With a month and a half to go until the first Eurovision 2024 semi-final on 7 May, the EBU today announced the order of the semi-final line-up.

The order of appearance was determined by the EBU in cooperation with the Swedish organisers, taking into account which place each country was drawn to perform (first or second), but also in a way that the show would be more interesting.

The official Eurovision YouTube channel announced a few minutes ago the official order of appearance of the songs in the semi-finals of this year’s contest.

It is worth noting that this year is the first year in which the Big 5 and the host country, Sweden, are going to perform their songs live in the two semi-finals. So, among the competing countries in the two semi-finals, we will see Germany, Sweden and the UK as guest stars in the first semi-final, while in the second semi-final we’ll see France, Italy and Spain.

Malmö will host the 68th Eurovision Song Contest from 7 to 11 May at the Malmö Arena. The motto of this year’s event, as chosen by the organisers, is ‘United by Music’.

Junior Eurovision 2024: Five cities in hopes of hosting the contest!

After the announcement that Spain will host Junior Eurovision 2024, five cities have bid to host the contest. According to the spanish media the following countries hope to be the one, that will host JESC 2024:

  • Barcelona
  • Valencia
  • Zaragoza
  • Málaga
  • Granada

The local governments of Barcelona, Málaga and the Valencian Community, have already stated their interest in bidding. RTVE, the national broadcast of Spain is going to meet with teams from all five potential host cities within a few days, in order to discuss each of the bids with production copmanies and choose the most suitable city to host the contest. The final decision will be made subsequently.

How we got to Spain?

Last year’s winner was France with Zoé Clauzure and her song “Coeur”. According to the competition’s rules, the winning country of its edition has the right of the first refusal on hosting the next year’s competition. In France’s case, bearing in mind that it has hosted the event for two times in just three years and the financial burdens due to the hosting of the Olympic Games the summer of 2024, it was not sure whether the country would be able to host again.

Hence, France Télévisions decided to hand over the organisation of the 2024 Junior Eurovision Song Contest. The next country in line was Spain that finished in second place with Sandra Valero and “Loviu”.

As a result, Spain will host the Junior Eurovision for the first time twenty years following its first and only win in the contest.

Spain: Lérica and Jorge González were the favorites of the internal RTVE jury!

Despite the fact that Nebulossa won Benidorm Fest 2024, the spanish national selection and will ultimately wave the country’s flag at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest with their song “Zorra“, RTVE‘s internal jury rank other entries higher.

The aforementioned jury had the responsibility to choose the participants of this year’s Benidorm Fest through ranking them. As the spanish internet newspaper Publico reveals, after a request they sent towards the spanish broadcaster, the internal RTVE jury had placed Astronauta by Lérica first and Caliente του Jorge González second, while they ranked Zorra by Nebulossa fifth. Also, Benidorm Fest’s runner-up St. Pedro with Dos Extraños (Cuarteto de Cuerda) was placed 14th by the internal jury.

The last place was a tie score-wise between Quique Niza and Yoly Saa. Yoly Saa’s song (No se me olvida) as well as Mantra’s entry (Me vas a ver) were originally named Llorar un mar and No eres para tanto respectively, but they switched their title before the Festival.

The names of the substitutes were also unveiled: Verónica Terrés, Ondina, Reyko, Ángela Carrasco, La Beba and Veintiuno came close to taking part at Benidorm Fest, especially Verónica Terrés, who had only a 2-point difference from Quique Niza and Yoly Saa. As for Ángela Carrasco, she is a renowed Dominican artist, who eventually appeared at Benidorm Fest, as a member of the jury.

Spain: Two cities and a region are ready to host Junior Eurovision 2024!

About three months after France’s third victory in four years, it was announced that Spain would be hosting Junior Eurovision 2024. Thus, Spain’s public broadcaster, RTVE, began a search for the most suitable city to host the contest.

The Generalitat Valenciana, Barcelona, and Malaga authorities have expressed interest in hosting the event thus far.

In fact, in a post on X, Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni said that the city is ready to take over the event and will reveal additional information about its bid in the coming days.

The Generalitat Valenciana region has also expressed interest. Towns like Benidorm, Valencia, and Castellon de la Plana are all within its borders. At the same time, the Presidents of Ágora and Conecta España urged the Malaga authorities to put in a bid to host the event.

Junior Eurovision 2024: Spain will serve as the host country!

Some wonderful news are coming for Junior Eurovision. A few hours ago, it was announced that Spain will serve as the host country for the 22nd edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

RTVE, the Spanish broadcaster, accepted the invitation of EBU and for the first time in its history, will host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Moreover, it will be the first time since 1969 that Spain will host a Eurovision related event.

How we got to Spain?

Last year’s winner was France with Zoé Clauzure and her song “Coeur”.
