Eurovision 2024: City of Malmö working hard for a safe Eurovision!

Malmö is currently evaluating the current situation caused by the ongoing Middle-Eastern conflict, hence, is discussing the ways of making the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest as safe as possible.

Israel‘s confirmed participation in Eurovision is stirring emotional protests around Europe. Intensive work is being done on security for the Eurovision Song Contest, to be held this May in Malmö, Sweden. Ulf Nilsson, the Head of Security and Preparedness at the city of Malmö., said on an interview with P4 Malmöhus:

“Many people are contributing to make this a reputation-proof event. We’re broadly working with many different scenarios. We’re working very closely with the police, SVT, Region Skåne, the Traffic Department.”

Last weekend, a Eurovision sign outside Malmö Live was vandalized and has now been protected with wax. The vandalism was discovered in the early hours of the morning. On the base of the sign, someone has written “Free Gaza” and smeared it with red paint. Even on the digital sign that says “United by music” and “We are one“, someone has thrown paint.

Several individuals have already applied for permission from the police to demonstrate during Eurovision in protest against Israel and their Eurovision Song Contest participation.

“We see that many have opinions about Israel’s participation and we understand that. We’re closely monitoring the situation. Of course, this will be taken into account in our work.”

Sweden: Melodifestivalen 2024 final had the worst TV ratings in history!

The Final of Melodifestivalen 2024, was broadcast by SVT and SVT Play last Saturday. We now know that Marcus & Martinus will represent Sweden at Eurovision Song Contest 2024 to be held in Malmö, Sweden. The song “Unforgettable“ placed first in both the International Jury and the Public Vote!

A few days after the grand finale of the contest, MMS has learned the latest audience data for this year’s edition of Melodifestivalen 2024.

The final of Melodifestivalen 2024 was watched by an average of 2.786.000 spectators in its 122-minute duration. In terms of audience share, the grand final swept the board again reaching a very high 72.43%.

Compared to the 2023 edition, the final of the contest lost 633.000 spectators and 10.42 points in audience share (in 2023 the final was seen by 3.419.000 spectators and an 82.85% share of the screen ).

Historically, it is the worst audience ratings in terms of spectators of a Melodifestivalen finale since audiences began to be measured in 1994. It is important to note at this point in the analysis that the decline in the consumption of linear television in favour of platforms has a lot of weight in this decrease in viewers and increase in share that has been happening for several years in Melodifestivalen and Swedish television.

Bets: The odds after the completion of the national finals!

A few hours have passed since the conclusion of the national finals of this year’s Eurovision season, with Sweden and Portugal being the last two countries to choose the song that will represent them in the 68th Eurovision Song Contest.

That’s why one of Eurovisionfun ‘s most loved and talked about columns is back, with our Eurovision 2024 betting analyses back again.

As you prepare for the pivotal next few days with the unveiling of the remaining entries ahead of May, bookers are already getting down to business, with the Eurovision 2024 winner section already being offered to some bookmakers. So, we’re taking the opportunity to bring you the so far for the next competition.

Croatia tops the list – Shuffles in the top five

The situation at the top remains unchanged, with Croatia having been in first place for ten days now. Baby Lasagna ‘s sweeping victory at Dora has put Croatia in the top spot in the betting tables for the first time in their history. Croatia’ s victory is currently being bet at odds between 4 and 5.25, odds slightly higher compared to those played when our last analysis was written.

Ukraine remains in second place. Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil may have fallen from the top spot, however, their distance from leading Croatia is very small, with Ukraine’s fourth win in the Eurovision Song Contest being bet at odds between 4.33 and 5.6.

Italy has moved back up to third place. More or less at the same level are the odds of Angelina Mango winning with “La Noia” , returning between 7.5 and 10 times the stake of anyone who believes in the second Italian victory in the last four years.

And now let’s go to the countries that complete the top five, where we have two entries that have risen significantly in recent days. Fourth is now Switzerland after the release of Nemo ‘s “The Code“, which has moved up six places compared to our last analysis, now directly threatening third place Italy. Switzerland ‘s victory is being bet at odds between 6 and 10 and it is only a matter of hours – it seems – to move into third place.

The top five is completed by the Netherlands, with Joost Klein ‘s “Europapa” having won the impressions and hearts of a large part of the public. The Western European country’s entry is the biggest winner of the last few days, being 20 places higher than in our analysis ten days ago. Between 11 and 15 is the Dutch victory in Malmö.

Top 10

Belgium is in sixth place. The release of Mustii ‘s “Before the Party’s Over” a few days ago seems to have initially excited the betting companies, who now have the Western European country out of the Top 5 a few days after its release. Belgium ‘s victory is being bet at odds between 11 and 17, being only slightly higher than those of the leading Netherlands.

Sweden dropped to seventh place, a few hours after the grand final of this year’s edition of Melodifestivalen where Marcus & Martinus won with “Unforgettable“. Sweden ‘s home win is offered at odds between 11 and 19, marking a slight rise compared to our last analysis and dropping this year’s organisers by one place.

Eighth place is taken by France, who have been trending upwards in recent days, especially after Slimane ‘s performance in the Croatian national final a week ago. Up to 21 times the stake is returned on “Mon Amour“.

In ninth place is now Georgia. Just one day before the release of Nutsa Buzaladze ‘s “Firefighter“, the Caucasian country has moved into the top ten, dropping its odds sharply in recent times and, at the same time, creating a climate of anticipation and expectations for the unveiling of this year’s Georgian entry. Georgia’s victory is being played at odds between 15 and 26.

Rounding out the top ten is Israel, who return to the top ten just hours before the release of “Hurricane“, which Eden Golan will compete with in Malmö. Like leading Georgia, Israel’s win returns up to 26 times the stakes.

Do you think Baby Lasagna will be able to give Croatia its maiden victory as an independent country in the Eurovision Song Contest? Tell us in the comments!

Eurovision 2024: The Grand Final will be shortened by a maximum of five minutes!

During Melodifestivalen, and specifically the Melfest WKND, the scriptwritter of this year’s Eurovision, Edward af Sillén, stated that the Grand Final of the Contest is about to be shortened, by about five minutes.

Edward af Sillén, said that there is no intention for a major shortening of the Grand Final of Eurovision. Earlier this season, it was annnounced that SVT, the public broadcaster of Sweden and the host broadcaster, wants to reduce the Grand Final by about an hour!

These statements of Sillén, confirm, but in a much smaller degree, what the production team of SVT stated back in June 2023, regarding the reduction of the broadcast of the contest, as in recent years, the broadcast was more than four hours long.

What remains now, is to see how these changes will be implemented in the Contest.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2024, will take place in Malmö from May 7 to 11, after Loreen’s win with the song “Tattoo”. The country’s representatives will be Marcus & Martinus with their song “Unforgettable”:

Sweden: These are the winners of Melodifestivalen 2024! | Next stop, Malmö!

The Final Show of Melodifestivalen 2024 has just ended and we now have a winner! Marcus & Martinus are the winner of this year’s Swedish national selection that took place at Friends Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.

The experts

New in Melodifestivalen this year is the participation of a couple of really knowledgeable music and Mello-experts – radio and TV profile Tina Mehrafzoon and Mello-oracle Ronny Larsson. During both the races and the final, they analyze the evening’s line-up and give their opinion on how they are doing.

The show

Carina Berg is the host of all the shows of the tour this year! With the next show of the contest taking place tomorrow in Stockholm on the 9th of March.

The show started with the final contestants covering last year’s winning entry “Tattoo” and ended with Loreen appearing on stage to get awarded with the Hall of Fame award. This year’s Hall of Fame is now complete when the entire team behind the winning entry “Tattoo joined – Loreen and the entire songwriting team. In addition to Loreen herself, Jimmy “Joker” Thörnfeldt, Jimmy Jansson, Loreen, Moa Carlebecker/Cazzi Opeia, Peter Boström and Thomas G:son were rewarded.

The numbers

  • When I’m Gone“ – Maria Sur

Maria did an amazing show today, more laser beams and more laser tracking sensors on the LED backdrop and the LED strip perimetrically at the stadium. Great job! Amazing vocals and also awed us with the intro video where she spoke entirely in Swedish! Bra jobbat!

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Back To My Roots” – Jay Smith’

Well this is the upgraded version of Jay giving zero f*s about this contest. Nice radio-friendly song, but nothing more.

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Awful Liar“ – Lisa Ajax

Lisa had an amazing performance, she now had both dancers unlike her first rehearsals. Pristine voice.

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Heroes Are Calling“ – Smash Into Pieces

As the days go by, their song makes not much of a difference to me. I preferred their song last year.

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Give My Heart A Break” – Cazzi Opeia

Cazzi is such a feel-good song! Makes me happy even on a day I am down low. The colours, the glow, the fluff! Love it all! Her voice? Pitch-perfect!

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Light” – Annika Wickihalder

Annika had an amazing stage show, added a chorus on stage. Great voice, I absolutely like this!

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Unforgettable” – Marcus & Martinus

Captivating performance! No more comments. This is my winner.

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • It’s Not Easy to Write a Love Song” – Dotter

Dotter still has problems from two weeks ago and this has implications to her voice! Such a shame! Visually it is so good.

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Que Sera” – Medina

That was an EARTHQUAKE! I can’t describe anything more! Love it!

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Dragon“ – Liamoo

So much fire, we could all feel the heat! Best vocals of the bunch I think, even better than the studio version. Great vocals by LIAMOO and his lead dub!

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Effortless“ – Jacqline

She ate! Looks like a music video up on stage! I think the international juries will absolutely love her! She was unwell, but does a great job at the moment! Runner-up of Idol 2021 is here and now is her moment to shine!

Photo: Andreas Papayiannakis

  • Happy That You Found Me” – Danny Saucedo

Danny changed to a black mesh top and a leather pair of trousers. Staging colours changed, lighting has changed, made it a bit more dark, more spiritual. I like it more.

Sweden: Grand Final of Melodifestivalen 2024 tonight!

Tonight marks the end of what may be the most anticipated national final of the year, Melodifestivalen 2024. The host of Eurovision 2024 aims for Sweden’s historic eighth victory on home soil in Malmo, and for this reason, SVT’s executives promise one of the strongest Melodifestivalen editions of all time, ensuring that the successor to Loreen achieves the best possible result for the Scandinavian country.

Format

This year’s Melodifestivalen introduces a new format, featuring five heats, each hosting six artists. From each heat, the top two contenders will directly advanced to the grand final on March 9th.

However, artists ranking third and fourth in their respective semi-finals participated in a voting after the fifth semi-final. This voting determined the two remaining finalists who “completed the puzzle” of the twelve artists competing in the grand final of Sweden’s national selection.

During the five semi-final rounds, the final results will be determined solely by the votes of Swedish viewers. This, of course, will change in the grand final on March 9th, where Sweden’s representative will be decided by a 50% vote from Swedish viewers and a 50% vote from an international jury (Australia, Belgium, Cyprus, Ireland, Iceland, Malta, Serbia and Germany), following the Eurovision Song Contest standards.

The dates of Melodifestivalen 2024

  • Heat 1: Saturday 3 February 2024, Malmö Arena, Malmö
  • Heat 2: Saturday 10 February 2024, Scandinavium, Göteborg
  • Heat 3: Saturday 17 February 2024, Vida Arena, Växjö
  • Heat 4: Saturday 24 February 2024, Stiga Sports Arena, Eskilstuna
  • Heat 5: Saturday 2 March 2024, Löfbergs Arena, Karlstad
  • Final: Saturday 9 March 2024, Friends Arena, Stockholm – Solna

Grand Final

Twelve artists will compete in tonight’s grand final of Melodifestivalen 2024, appearing in the following order:

  1. Maria Sur – “When I’m Gone
