Germany: Grossstadtgeflüster never applied for Das deutsche Finale 2024!

The speculated fan favorite Grossstadtgeflüster will not take part in the German preliminary round Das deutsche Finale 2024 for the selection of the German representative at Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö. The reason for this is quite simple: the band hadn’t even applied to NDR for it. The group made this clear today in a statement on social media.

It all fit! The title of the song “Ich kündige” is concise, unique and catchy. It was released after 1 September 2023 and could have simply been limited to the usual three minutes which is a requirement for a Eurovision Song Contest entry. And the song had already triggered a hype in the Eurovision bubble and on TikTok in advance. Nevertheless, Grossstadtgeflüster will not take part in the German Eurovision preliminaries in 2024 and thus will not get a chance to represent Germany at the Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Malmö, Sweden.

You can listen to their song “Ich kündige” at the video down below:

Specifically, the band responded to the rumours with a statement on an Instagram post, which can be seen below:

“Because of the many people asking us if we would participate in the ESC:

Certainly, it would have been an honor for us to secure the last place for Germany.

However, we didn’t apply because we’re pretty terrible at meeting deadlines, and on top of that, we tend to develop a mysterious skin irritation whenever we walk too close to a German flag.”

As early as October 12, there have been reports about a possible application of Grossstadtgeflüster with “Ich kündige” on ESCKompakt, noting that the band had not confirmed that they were involved in the application process.

Lots of hype had been developed around the song “Ich kündige” and its video. A Tiktok with the song had reached almost 3 million views within two days. A hint from the X fan account Songfestival Azerbaijan did the rest to spark the hopes in the Eurovision bubble.

So now, two days before the official announcement of the actual participants in the Eurovision preliminary decision Das deutsche Finale 2024, comes the clarifying cancellation. With this, the band is probably doing NDR a favor, because the possible disappointment of the fans about the non-participation of Grossstadtgeflüster should have evaporated by then.

Germany: 32 Songs Advance to Next Stage!

In the pursuit of finding Germany‘s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, the competition has narrowed down to 32 songs that have successfully advanced from a pool of 693 submissions received by NDR. Notably, the initial deadline of October 5 was extended to October 15, resulting in an additional 50 submissions.

The next phase involves a comprehensive evaluation by a distinguished 20-member international jury. From this assessment, the top 10 songs will be selected to participate in the highly anticipated German national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 – Das Deutsche Finale. The identities of the jury members, all of whom have past experience as Eurovision jurors, will be unveiled following the conclusion of the selection process.

While specific details about the submitted songs are limited, members of the German delegation have disclosed that a significant portion of the entries still in contention are performed in the German language. This linguistic diversity adds an intriguing element to the competition, reflecting the varied musical landscape within Germany.

The culmination of this selection process will be showcased in the live broadcast of Eurovision Song Contest – Das Deutsche Finale 2024, set to take place in Berlin. Audiences can tune in on Das Erste, eurovision.de, and ARD Mediathek to witness the unveiling of the chosen entry that will represent Germany on the Eurovision stage.

This selection holds particular significance for Germany, especially in the wake of their last-place finish in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023. The group Lord of the Lost, with their entry “Blood and Glitter,” garnered 18 points across both juries and televoting, marking a second consecutive last-place performance for Germany in the esteemed competition. The upcoming Eurovision 2024 selection is eagerly awaited as Germany aims to make a resounding impact and improve its standing on the Eurovision stage.

Germany: Artists who submitted for “Das Deutsche Finale 2024”!

Seven more artists who are likely to represent Germany in the upcoming Eurovision contest in Malmö were made public earlier today on the ESC Kompakt website.

John Riot

John Riot is a German model and singer. His participation in The Voice seven years ago helped make him well-known to the general public and he currently has over 100,000 Instagram followers. The singer has attempted to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest before. In 2020, he attempted to represent San Marino but did not manage to win the ticket to Rotterdam. His song for this year’s “Deutsche Finale,” “Intoxicated”, addresses the bullying and exclusion that members of the LGBTQ+ community encounter, a topic he claims he has personally experienced.

Gute Katze Böse Katze

Among the artists that might be included in the final list of contenders for the “Deutsche Finale 2024” is the band Gute Katze Böse Katze, which characterizes its sound as “Hamburg cuddly punk”. The group submitted the song “Rendezvous” with Waldinsel Records. The band feels that winning the national selection will be hard, because the song is unconventional and is sung in German.

Gloria Massamba

Gloria Massamba rose to fame in Germany following her victory in the “Erftkreis Lied Contest,” a regional competition in which ten municipalities compete with one song each. This year, she submitted the pop-dance song “Start Again”, along with producer Dieter Kirchenbauer.

Eva Lima

Eva Lima is known in Germany’s electro-pop scene. This year, she is claiming the country’s representation with the song “Scared Of The Dark”, which stays true to the singer’s well-known musical identity. The hip-hop tempo and the song’s dark atmosphere give this particular participation an extra layer of interest.

Fabio

Fabio, who is of Italian descent, is mostly known in Germany from TikTok, where he has a particularly high level of popularity. He recently released the song “Shake it”, with which she aspires to participate in the “Deutsche Finale 2024”.

Dario Black

Dario Black is another artist who made his interest in representing Germany known via TikTok. You can listen to his track, “Let The Music” below:

Ksenia Eirich

Ksenia Eirich’s song is entitled “Wherever I Go”. It is a combination of various musical styles, including rock, rap, and dark-pop. Below you can watch the music video of her entry, which she has directed herself.

The German broadcaster NDR reports that 693 proposals in total were submitted. In particular, 475 solo singers, 71 duets and 127 bands aspire to participate on the German national selection. Greek-German singer Melissa Mantzoukis is among the artists that submitted an entry. Information on the upcoming stages of the evaluation as well as the final list of songs that will compete on February 18 will be released soon.

Germany was represented this year by Lord of the Lost and the song “Blood and Glitter”. The band, which is well-known in Germany, came in last place overall, with a total of 18 points. Will Germany be able to recover from its string of poor results and move to the left side of the leaderboard?
