Eurovision 2022: Estonia’s Second Rehearsal!

Stefan is at the Pala Olimpico in Turin for his second rehearsal, where he will represent Estonia with ‘Hope‘.

Who is Stefan?

Stefan Airapetjan was born on December 24, 1997 in Viljandi, northern Estonia to Armenian parents. He started singing at a young age. In 2010, she reached the final of Laulukarussell, a children’s song contest hosted by ETV.

Stefan has played in the Estonian national final, Eesti Laul four times. His first participation was in 2018 as a member of the Vajé duo with the song “Laura (Walk with Me)”, finishing third in the final. His first solo participation was in 2019 with the song “Without You”, which won the jury vote in the grand final while coming out, again, third. He then participated in 2020 with the song “By My Side”, which finished seventh in the grand final.

Stefan was chosen to represent Estonia at Eurovision 2022 after his victory at Eesti Laul 2022 with “Hope”. Won the final with 68% of the vote.

The rehearsal

The performance starts with the retro-vintage filter, just like in Eesti Laul. He’s accompanied by guitar and is dressed in white. Many close-ups that catch your attention. Vocally on point, no cowboys as expected. Stefan makes an amazing connection with the audience.

Estonia: ”We won’t participate if Russia is allowed to participate”

The last hours are difficult for this year’s Eurovision, due to the pressures of  Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands, Norway, Lithuania, Latvia, Georgia, but also Finland, that in fact threatens to withdraw from the competition. Estonia is also taking the side of Ukraine, pressuring EBU to recall Russia’s participation at this year’s contest.

Specifically, like Finland, the Estonian National Broadcasting Corporation reports that it will decide whether or not to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest depending on whether Russia participates in it or not. According to Erik Roose, Chairman of the Board of ERR (Estonian Public Broadcasting), ERR has contacted EBU on this issue and states that depending on the further organization of the song contest, a relevant decision will be made to participate or not.

”Obviously, it is inconceivable that Estonia will participate in this year’s Eurovision in which Russia also participates. Our colleagues from the other Baltic countries will obviously share this view. We will continue to contact the EBU as the organizer of the Eurovision Song Contest”
