Finland: Interview with Cyan Kicks | The right time for Eurovision and “Hurricane”! (Video)

Following their selection for this year’s national final in Finland, Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2022, Cyan Kicks talk exclusively to EurovisionFun, Apostolos Bogiannos and Apostolis Matamis.

Cyan Kicks are among the seven finalists in Finland‘s national final for Eurovision 2022, and will try to represent their country with the song “Hurricane”.

We had been thinking about participating in UMK for four years but we never felt confident about it. This year we felt stronger since we have already released several songs. We have long wanted to write a song that would push us far as a band and as individuals and that’s how Hurricane came about. It happened completely naturally. We are very proud of it.

Regarding the stage presentation of the song in the national final, they state that:

We can’t say much. All we can say is that something very special and magical is going to happen that you are definitely not expecting. Something you don’t expect to see from a rock band. It will be a surprise!

Even though they like all the songs from UMK 2022, they like more the ones by Bess and Isaac Sene.

Their favourite Finnish entry is that of Lordi (2006), while from the competition in general they single out Loreen (Sweden 2012) and ABBA (Sweden 1974).

Just before the end of the interview, Cyan Kicks shared with us an acapella part of their participation.

Italy: Record-breaking Spotify streams for Mahmood and Blanco!

A short while ago, Spotify‘s daily streams ranking for Italy was released. As expected, all 12 songs from the first night of Sanremo were at the top of the ranking. One song, however, set an incredible record.

More specifically, Brividi by Mahmood and Blanco, not only topped the chart, but also scored the highest number of streams ever for a song on the Italian Spotify with 3,384,192 streams!

In detail, the ranking is as follows:

  1. Mahmood & Blanco – Brividi – 3,384,192
  2. RKomi – Insuperabile – 954,842
  3. La rappresentante di lista – Ciao Ciao – 922,011
  4. Dargen D’Amico – Dove Si Balla – 714,766
  5. Achille Lauro – Domenica – 672,812
  6. Noemi – Ti amo non lo so dire – 568,019
  7. Michele Bravi – Inverno dei fiori – 520,547
  8. Ana Mena – Duecentomila ore – 417,176
  9. Gianni Morandi – Apri tutte le porte – 399,737
  10. Giusy Ferreri – Miele – 358,251

Yuman was in the14th place and Massimo Ranieri in the 16th one.

Mahmood & Blanco, however, with this record also managed to reach the 5th position on Spotify’s global chart.

Tomorrow we will see how the songs of the second night of Sanremo will do on Spotify. Certainly the festival is subversive as we have seen in other years, but this record is unlikely to be overturned, at least as far as televoting is concerned.

We are very happy about how the team is coming together and everything is going in an absolutely great direction. It is already obvious that the extra month will really benefit us – the first proposals for the performance are coming in and it is time to think about everything peacefully.

Portugal: Interview with Jonas | From Eurovision 2008 to Festival da Canção 2022! (Video)

After the announcement of his candidacy for this year’s portuguese national final, Festival da Canção 2022, Jonas speaks exclusively to EurovisionFun‘s Apostolos Bogiannos and Paschalis Barmpoutis.

Jonas is one of the candidates of the portuguese national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 and will try to represent his country with the song “Pontas Soltas”.

I’m releasing an album. I’m starting now. I did musical theater, but my main thing is being a fado singer. It feels like I’m beginning again after all these years. It’s an opportunity for people to know about my music.
Pontas soltas is a protuguese expression about something unsolved. It’s about a relationship that ended in the wrong leaving many issues to be solved. It’s a recurring theme in fado music. This kind of music has mysticism. The song was written especially for FdC and I was invited by RTP to participate.

Apart from being a singer, Jonas is also a choreographer. This is something that can help him with his staging in the national final:

I can’t say much about my staging. It’s a surprise. It’s very connected with fado and with dance. I’m very nervous to be compared to other artists. I’m trying not to see anything on the Internet. I like everything to be united and not seen separately.

Despite being anxious by the procedure, Jonas has already some favorites among the festival’s songs. He prefers the songs by Pongo & Tristany and Milhanas.

FdC changed a lot after the victory of Salvador Sobral. Salvador Sobral was an unusual phenomenon in ESC. Noone expected a very simple and fragile song with just him alone on stage would win. It’s good to see all these different styles and songs. It’s much richer now with huge names of the portuguese music, it gives me more will to participate in FdC.

His favorite portuguese entry is “Desfolhada” by Simone de Oliveira (1969) and of course “Senhora do mar” by Vânia Fernandes (2008), where he participated as a back vocalist. Among other Eurovision entries he likes Netta‘s song (Israel 2018).

Being a back vocalist in the portuguese entry in 2008, Jonas spoke about his experience in the contest and about their pleasant coexistence with the greek delegation.

Just before the end of the interview, Jonas sang a part of his song a capella for the readers of eurovisionfun.

Watch the whole interview with Jonas in the video that follows:
