Eurovision 2023: Azerbaijan’s First Rehearsal!

Next country to grace the Eurovision stage is Azerbaijan with TuralTuranX and their song “Tell me more”.

Everything about TuralTuranX

TuralTuranX is a musical duo from Azerbaijan which comprises of Tural and Turan Bağmanov. They started their career by performing at school events and later moving to the capital Baku and performing as street musicians with the band TheRedJungle.

The Rehearsal

After Israel bringing all the lights and camera action, this is joyfully low key and charming – just Tural and Turan on a heart-shaped podium centre stage, wearing matching green and purple suits and giving it beautiful harmonies. No sign of the trademark fedoras from the official video, but maybe they saw Gustaph from Belgium and decided not to get into Eurovision hat wars.

Azerbaijan: Until 8th of March, the announcement of the participation!

In a interview with the Azerbaijani Public Broadcaster Ictimai TV, Azerbaijan’s Eurovision 2011 representative Eldar Qasımov, revealed that the country’s entry for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool will be announced by the 8th of March.

We remind you that the internally selection was among five artists who competed with song created by composers originated from Azerbaijan.

The five nominated artists are:

  • Azer Nasibov
  • Humay Aslanova & Amrah Musayev
  • Leyla Izzatova
  • Mamagama
  • Turan & Tural Bağmanovlar

All of them performed their participation live in a studio and these performances were videotaped. A focus group will evaluate the five performances and they will decide the artist and the song with which Azerbaijan will be represented at Eurovision 2023. In fact, only one candidate has a foreign co-writer among the songwriters.

They only year that Azerbaijan appeared once with a locally produced song was in 2008, which was Azerbaijan’s first year competing in Eurovision Song Contest. This year the country will compete for the second time with a song exclusively from an Azeri team.

Last year’s representative was Nadir Rustamli with the song “Fade to Black” and he finished at 16th place in the Grand Final with 106 points. However, it is the first entry ever to qualify for the Final with zero points from the public vote in the semi-final.

Azerbaijan: The five finalists of the internal selection for Eurovision 2023!

The Azeri public television, Ictimai TV, recently announced the five artists who managed to reach the final phase of the internal selection, through which they will choose the artist and song that will represent the country in Liverpool.

The five artists are:

  • Azer Nasibov
  • Humay Aslanova & Amrah Musayev
  • Leyla Izzatova
  • Mamagama
  • Turan & Tural Bağmanovlar

All of them performed their submissions live in the same studio and these performances were videotaped. A focus group will evaluate the five performances and determine the artist and song with which Azerbaijan will be represented at Eurovision 2023.

Nadir Rustamli represented Azerbaijan at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin with the song “Fade to Black”. In the Grand Final, he finished in the 16th place with 106 points, but it is the first entry to qualify for the final with zero points from the public vote in the semi-final.

Azerbaijan: More than 200 songs submitted for Eurovision 2023!

Some time ago Ictimai, the public broadcaster of Azerbaijan, begun searching for their new representative in Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

After an open call to artists and composers, the country is once again set to choose its representative for the 67th Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool through an internal selection. Those interested could send their performances, their demos or new songs exclusively for Eurovision to the channel, until yesterday, December 31.

The invitation of the public broadcaster, was of great interest to many composers and artists, as more than 200 songs were submitted to represent the country!

Vasif Mammadov, the Head of Delegation of Azerbaijan, spoke about the upcoming contest and mentioned that most of the 200 songs submitted belong to foreign composers:

“Our goal and desire with this is to have local composer’s music featured in competition. Based on the selection process, if local and foreign song meet the same criteria, we will prefer local song. That is, we really want the music of Azerbaijani composer to be played in the competition. Let’s demonstrate that we also have talented composers. I hope this can serve as a stimulus for years to come. Finally, in May we can use the phrase “we did our best” with peace of mind. It should be noted that the choice of song and representative is expected to be completed by the end of January.”

Apparently despite the great interest of foreign composers, the country intends to work with composers from Azerbaijan this year.

Nadir Rustamli represented Azerbaijan in Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin with the song “Fade to Black” and ended up in 16th place in the Grand Final with a total of 106 points. On the same time he is the first artist to qualify for the Grand Final while getting zero points from televote in the semi-final.
