Moldova: TRM Denies Signing Unsigned Statement Regarding Eurovision 2024!

In recent hours, an unsigned statement has been circulating online, purportedly sent by delegation members and artists who participated in the Eurovision 2024. According to ESC Gabe, this statement involves several participants expressing concerns about backstage events.

However, the Moldovan public broadcaster TRM has firmly denied any involvement in signing this statement. In a direct communication with the Eurovisionfun team, TRM officials stated:

We haven’t signed anything in that regard. We had not faced any problems with any representative, and Israeli delegation members are not an exception.

This statement from TRM comes in response to the claims made by the ESC Gabe account, which exclusively published the unsigned declaration. The statement purportedly signed by various delegation members and artists reads:

In recent days, we have seen a series of inaccurate reports about what happened backstage during the Eurovision 2024 contest, the alleged behavior of artists towards the Israeli delegation, and the events surrounding the EBU’s decision to move the Israeli delegation to other backstage areas.

We are concerned about the inaccuracies being published. During the Eurovision 2024 contest, several artists and national delegations submitted complaints to the EBU regarding inappropriate behavior and rule violations by members of the Israeli delegation.

We are cooperating with the EBU and expect these complaints to be duly examined, in line with the commitment of EBU officials. While the process is ongoing, it would be inappropriate to publicly comment on specific incidents, but we will do so in due course.

As of now, the ESC Gabe account has not disclosed the names of those who allegedly signed the statement, as requested. The veracity of this unsigned declaration remains uncertain, and it is yet to be seen if other delegations will refute or confirm their involvement.

Moldova: “The contest is very political”, claims Natalia Barbu!

Natalia Barbu returned to the contest after seventeen years with “In The Middle“. However, her second attempt was nowhere near as successful as her first one and she did not make it to the finals.

Barbu expressed her disappointment on the result claiming that the reasons behind her non qualification was of political nature:

It’s very political and it doesn’t matter because my piece is about light, it’s about beauty and I’m convinced that I connected with a lot of people, but this contest probably isn’t just about that.

However, she feels thankful having lived the experience once again:

I thank God for this experience itself. It was nice and I think that if I got here, in this competition, I didn’t get there for nothing, because from now on a new and beautiful stage begins in my career and in my life.

Eurovision 2024: Moldova’s Second Rehearsal!

The first day of the second round of rehearsals for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 continues with Moldova which is represented by Natalia Barbu who returns to the contest after 2007, with the song “In The Middle”.

Who is Natalia Barbu ?

Natalia Barbu, born on 22nd of August 1979, is a Moldovan singer songwriter and violinist. Her rise to fame began in 1998 in the city of Mamaia, where she won a singing competition. Since then, she has released 4 studio albums and 20 singles. An avid storyteller, Natalia Barbu writes the lyrics for most of her songs herself. Throughout her career Natalia has worked with a group of musicians called Trigon on an alternative jazz-folk experiment.

In the world of Eurovision she is known for having already represented Moldova in the contest in the past, and particularly in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Helsinki with the song “Fight”. That year she managed to qualify for the grand final from the biggest semi-final that had ever took place, finishing 10th, a result that she repeated again on the night of the grand final of that year.

The Rehearsal

The staging has the static routine that we saw at Etapa Națională, the Moldovan national final – with hand claps and armography and a white violin – but Natalia is no longer flanked by backing singers – she’s entirely alone, in front of a beautiful backdrop of seascapes and trees and flowers and butterflies.

During the violin section the LED wall turns to huge wings, so when viewed from the front Natalia looks like an angel.

Natalia once again hits every one of those high notes.

After all today’s second rehearsals a recap video will be published on the official Youtube channel! Stay tuned!

The Dress Rehearsal for Moldova and the rest of Semi Final 1 will be held on the 6th of May.

Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal had the most views on the second day?

The rehearsals continued dynamically, with yesterday’s day hosting another eight countries at the Malmö Arena! Be sure to also read our article from yesterday regarding the views of the seven countries that completed their rehearsals on Saturday.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. However, the TikTok algorithm is usually able to detect the song used in the video, assign it to the correct track, and then include it in the total number of videos where that sound has been used. Based on this capability, the most popular songs before rehearsals were from the Netherlands and Italy. Will they receive the same promotion as before?

In less than 24 hours (April 29, 2024, time  CET), since the first clip from the rehearsals was uploaded, we have a indicative sample of which rehearsal was favored by the audience (here it should be noted that the videos were uploaded one after the other with a one and a half hour interval and there was a significant delay in their publication).

The rehearsals that had the most views are:

  1. Azerbaijan: FAHREE feat. Ilkin Dovlatov – Özünlə Apar – 185,5 thousand views
  2. Australia: Electric Fields – One Milkali (One Blood) – 142,3 thousand views
  3. Luxembourg: TALI – Fighter – 140 thousand views
  4. Iceland: Hera Bjork – Scared of Heights –  126,3 thousand views
  5. Portugal: iolanda – Grito – 112,8 thousand views
  6. Moldova: Natalia Barbu – In The Middle – 109 thousand views
  7. Finland: Windows95man – No Rules – 108,2 thousand views
  8. Slovenia: Raiven – Veronika – 107 thousand views

With this small sample, we can infer that:

  • None of the eight countries managed to come close to the countries’views that rehearsed the day before. Therefore, we can assume that the second half of the first semifinal doesn’t have the same impact as the first half.
  • The last four countries are very close to each other so it is very likely that some of them can recover in views in the following days.
  • Azerbaijan had the most views, beacause no one knew any information about the stage and also due to the country’s diaspora.

The top six countries with the most views from the two days are as follows:

  1. Poland: LUNA – The Tower – 1,1 thousand views
  2. Ukraine: alyona alyona & Jerry Heil – Teressa & Maria – 763 thousand views
  3. Serbia: Teya Dora – Ramonda – 749 thousand views
  4. Croatia: Baby Lasagna – Rim Tim Tagi Dim – 624 thousand views
  5. Ireland: Bambie Thug – Doomsday Blue – 278 thousand views
  6. Cyprus: Silia Kapsis – Liar – 243 thousand views

TikTok has played a significant role in the success of Eurovision songs in recent years. For example, Duncan Laurence’s winning entry “Arcade” became a global hit a year after winning the competition when it was used in over a million videos on TikTok. One of the earliest TikTok successes from Eurovision was Getter Jaani’s “Rockefeller Street”, which went viral on the platform in 2018 and has since been used in over two million videos. Let’s not forget that Armenia’s entry in 2022 by Rosa Linn with “Snap” gained over a billion views on the platform. Finally, Norway’s entry last year gained significant worldwide publicity months before the competition week, where it secured fifth place.

The second rehearsal for the first semi-final countries will be held on the 1st of May, when we will know how things will appear on screen for the representatives.

Moldova: Valeria Pasha disputes the results of Etapa Națională 2024!

Just a few hours ago Etapa Națională, the Moldovan selection format for Eurovision 2024, was concluded. Following the voting of a national jury along with the public voting, Natalia Barbu was declared the winner with her song “In the middle” and therefore the country’s representative in Malmö.

However, Natalia Barbu’s win was the result of a tie-break. Natalia Barbu and Valeria Pasha tied on the first place, both with a total of 22 points. Pasha won the public’s vote, with receiving almost double the votes in comparison with Barbu who finished in the second place, while Barbu won the jury voting. It was up to the jury to break the tie, which gave the win to Natalia Barbu.

However, Valeria Pasha, the runner-up, as she states on a video posted on her Instagram account, disputes the results of tonight’s selection and has appealed the results of Etapa Națională 2024.

According to Valeria Pasha’s post:

Thank you for your support, I have thousands of messages and shares. 4771 votes – every vote counted for me! But unfortunately, with the score being tied 22/22 – the organisers have decided not to consider your votes and opinion.

We are not trying to blame Natalia Barbu’s team, but we want transparency.

Together with the team, we decided that we will fight for the support provided by you. For each of the 4771 votes. That’s why we’ll contest and bet on your support.

Valeria Pasha’s claim has nothing to do with Natalia Barbu personally but wants to ensure the transparency of the process, as the public’s opinion was not considered on the final result.

It is true that there was no information that the jury’s opinion would serve as the tie-breaker on such an occasion.

Anyway, the winner of tonight’s selection was Natalia Barbu with her entry “In the middle“. Barbu will return to the Eurovision stage for the second time, seventeen years following her first participation in Helsinki with “Fight”.

We remind you that Moldova is allocated to perform on the second half of the first semi-final on May 7.
