Eurovision 2023: Malta’s Second Rehearsal!

Malta is here to continue the lineup. The busker are ready to own the stage with their dancing moves, as their party just began. The question here is only one:

Do you want to dance?

The Busker

The Busker is an indie pop band from Malta that was established in 2012. The band comprises of David “Dav.Jr” Meilak, Jean Paul Borg, and Sean Meachen, and their music style features elements of soul, pop, and funk. The band won the Lovin Music Award for the “Best Album of the Year” with their signature sound. They participated in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2023 with their song “Dance (Our Own Party)”, which deals with social anxiety and leaving a party to be with close friends. The Busker emerged victorious in the final after qualifying from the quarter-finals and semi-finals, granting them the opportunity to represent Malta at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool.

The second rehearsal

While watching Malta’s performance in the arena on Sunday, we did not fully grasp the intricacy of their staging. However, on camera, it becomes apparent that their act is a lively and enjoyable one, and the band executes it perfectly. The performance combines retro funk and pop elements, with a remarkable saxophone hook. The Busker has brought along various props for staging, including a four-part set featuring a party house with a Destiny cardboard cutout, a yellow park bench and a lamppost, a red car, and a tiny room with a sofa.

The band members dance in between each part of the set, creating a clever visual narrative in three parts. Moreover, the act includes a costume change, as the band swaps their chunky sweaters for silver sequins during the final chorus.

In the afternoon, after the completion of all the rehearsals, a video will be released with short excerpts from the television footage of all the second rehearsals!

Eurovision 2022: Sweden’s Second Rehearsal!

Cornelia’s turn from Sweden with her song ‘Hold Me Closer’ to enter on the Eurovision stage. Cornelia’s staging has remained the same as it was in Melodifestivalen. The same circular projection screen prop was used, plus she wore the same outfit and was barefoot on stage. Her moves and the camerawork were intuitive, making it one hell of an intimate and intense performance. Will Sweden’s betting odds approach odds’ favourite Ukraine after the second rehearsal?

The Second Rehearsal

Cornelia has some technical issues during the start of her rehearsal.

The performance starts with a close shot on Cornelia and there isn’t much lighting, except from one yellow-orange in the back. In the first chorus we see the big green prop behind her. The rehearsal stops again halfway due to technical issues.

Cornelia tries for third time, but she complains again for technical issues while she sings, she keeps on performing.

The performance is the same as the Melodifestivalen with some boost. Cornelia struggles vocally at some parts towards the end.

At the end, the prop and the backround change into red colour.

In the next run-through, Cornelia seems very annoyed. She stops again.

In the last run-through, there is pyro and smoke added. Cornelia manages to sing the whole song without problems.

Overall, great performance, qualification isn’t in question here.

Eurovision 2022: Belgium’s Second Rehearsal!

Belgium and Jeremie Makiese with his song ‘Miss You’ is the next country to rehearse for today. During his first rehearsal, Jérémie appeared on stage in a silver jacket and accompanied by four dancers. The staging featured cool dance moves and great vocals. The belgian delegation comes once again on stage, this time for their second rehearsal.

The Second Rehearsal

Jeremie’s rehearsal starts with shots on himself doing some moves. He wears a silver jacket, he looks great in the street-style clothes. In the chorus, he is accompanied by 4 dancer dressed in black. His dance moves are similar to the video clip ones. Vocally he could have been better. Not a sure qualification for Belgium.

In the third run-through he complains about sound problems.

Eurovision 2022: Montenegro’s Second Rehearsal!

Next up is Montenegro with Vladana and her song ‘Breathe’. Vladana didn’t convince at the pre-parties being very weak vocally. in her first rehearsal, Vladana wears a blue dress with a particularly bright circular disc on the back. The lighting that has been chosen is really impressive, highlighting the overall appearance, while Vladana nails the song. She will try to convince with her second rehearsal that she owns a spot in the grand final.

The Second Rehearsal

Vladana’s second rehearsal starts with a rotating shot from above. She wears a blue dress and with a connected ‘satellite plate’ behind her. This plate, along with the upper part of her dress, starts to shine with lights from the second verse and on. Vladana is weak vocally, but better than the pre-parties. During the bridge, there are two silver figures in the backround. She sings the last pre chorus in Italian.

After the first run-through she complains that at some points her sound was off.

In the second run-through, the circular prop in her back and the upper part of her dress don’t turn on.

In the third run-through, the ‘satellite plate’ along with her dress turn on from the beginning of the performance.

Eurovision 2022: Poland’s Second Rehearsal!

Coming up is Poland, one of the odds’ favourite to win Eurovision 2022. Poland didn’t seem to impress on the first rehearsal, as they start falling places at the odds. During his first rehearsal, Ochman appeared in a black suit and four dancers in black clothes and masks, while the fringing gives an ethereal feeling and movement on stage, as if ghosts are circling Ochman. This scene was combined with flashing lights. Will Ochman impress this time with his second rehearsal?

The Second Rehearsal

Poland’s rehearsal starts with a wide shot from above and with black-dark blue lighting, the sound of water adds on to the atmosphere. Ochman is vocally perfect. During the second verse, there are graphics with water drops displaying on screen. In the second chorus, the graphics shake and give an earthquake effect with lightnings. The dancers, who are shown at the beginning standing on the B stage, join Ochman on the main stage. The performance is atmospheric and powerful with excellent use of lights. His face expressions are quite clumsy, but it’s a sure qualification for Poland.

Eurovision 2022: Romania’s Second Rehearsal!

The second section of the 7th day of rehearsals in Turin starts with Romania. WRS’ first rehearsal didn’t seem to have much difference from the national selection’s one. He wore sparkly trousers and a red frilly shirt that comes off at the end to reveal a silver sequinned vest. The staging featured great dancing, fabulous costumes and lots of different musical influences. WRS enters now on stage for his second rehearsal.

The Second Rehearsal

Romania’s second rehearsal starts with shots on dancers doing some moves. Then, WRS appears with the dancers doing choreography similar to the national selection’s one. Red is the main colour of the performance. There is good use of the LED floor screen with WRS and his dancers doing some cool rotating moves. Also the lyrics of the chorus are displayed on the backround and the LED floor. In the bridge, WRS changes outfit from red to a black with silver marks. Generallly, the choreography is very good, not much different to what we have seen from WRS so far. He is a performer, but the staging lacks some big moments.

Stefan has played in the Estonian national final, Eesti Laul four times. His first participation was in 2018 as a member of the Vajé duo with the song “Laura (Walk with Me)”, finishing third in the final. His first solo participation was in 2019 with the song “Without You”, which won the jury vote in the grand final while coming out, again, third. Stefan was chosen to represent Estonia at Eurovision 2022 after his victory at Eesti Laul 2022 with “Hope”. Won the final with 68% of the vote.

The rehearsal

The performance starts with the retro-vintage filter, just like in Eesti Laul. He’s accompanied by guitar and is dressed in white. Many close-ups that catch your attention. Vocally on point, no cowboys as expected. Stefan makes an amazing connection with the audience.

Eurovision 2022: North Macedonia’s Second Rehearsal!

It was Andrea’s turn, representing North Macedonia with the ‘Circles‘, to hold her second rehearsal.

Who is Andrea?

Andrea Koevska was born on February 14, 2000 in Skopje. At the age of five she moved with her family to Haarlem, New York, where they lived for a year. It was in Haarlem that Andrea was first exposed to a variety of music. Her passion for music was encouraged by her grandfather, who passed away when he was nine years old.

Andrea’s music career began in 2020, after her adaptations on social media were spotted by producer Aleksandar Masevski, who began working with her on music. Her first single “I Know” was released in October 2020. This was followed by several other singles, including “Talk to Me”. Andrea has received airplay in countries across Europe and in parts of Africa and Asia.

In February 2022, Andrea won the national final of Northern Macedonia, Za Evrosong 2022

The rehearsal

Andrea is alone on stage, dressed in black, supported only by pulsating graphics and dramatic lighting. It also uses the two elevator bridges over the water element as graphic displays. She has small vocal problems but her appearance does not achieve much in a difficult semifinal like this. Overall it’s okay.
