Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal has the most views on TikTok?

Two days ago, the first rehearsals for all 37 entries officially concluded, and today the second rehearsals are expected to be completed, with the Big 5 and the host country Sweden taking the stage at the Malmö Arena for the second time! This means that we are getting closer to the Eurovision week, with the Dress and Jury Rehearsals for the first semi-final starting on Monday.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. However, the TikTok algorithm is usually able to detect the song used in the video, assign it to the correct track, and then include it in the total number of videos where that sound has been used. Based on this capability, the most popular songs before rehearsals were from the Netherlands and Italy. Will they receive the same promotion as before?

The ranking with all the entries (in brackets will be the day of the rehearsal) based on the increasing number of views after one week from the start of the first rehearsals on TikTok is as follows:

  1. Netherlands: Joost (fourth day) – Europapa – 3.2 milion views
  2. Greece: Marina Satti (third day) – ZARI – 2.7 million views
  3. Poland: LUNA (first day)– The Tower –1.5 million views
  4. Switzerland: Nemo (third day) – The Code – 1.2 million views
  5. Serbia: Teya Dora (first day) – Ramonda – 980.1 thousand views

The views were counted at 17:45 CET.

Based on the views from the first semi-final, the following countries will qualify (in ascending order): Poland, Serbia, Ukraine, Croatia, Ireland, Azerbaijan, Cyprus (seventh), Lithuania, Luxembourg, and Australia.

Similarly, from the second semi-final, the following countries will qualify: Netherlands, Greece, Switzerland, Georgia, Israel, Belgium, Armenia, Albania, Latvia, and Austria.

TikTok has played a significant role in the success of Eurovision songs in recent years. For example, Duncan Laurence’s winning entry “Arcade” became a global hit a year after winning the competition when it was used in over a million videos on TikTok. One of the earliest TikTok successes from Eurovision was Getter Jaani’s “Rockefeller Street”, which went viral on the platform in 2018 and has since been used in over two million videos. Let’s not forget that Armenia’s entry in 2022 by Rosa Linn with “Snap” gained over a billion views on the platform. Finally, Norway’s entry last year gained significant worldwide publicity months before the competition week, where it secured fifth place.

Today, the artists from the first semifinal stepped on the stage of Malmö Arena for their second technical rehearsal.  After all today’s second rehearsals a recap video will be published on the official Youtube channel, but some videos showing the TV footage of the second rehearsals have already been released.

Eurovision 2024: Serbia’s Second Rehearsal!

Next up on the Malmö stage for her first rehearsal is the Serbian participant Teya Dora, with her heartbreaking ballad ”Ramonda”!

Who is Teya Dora?

Blending modern pop with traditional Balkan influences and honest lyrics, Teya Dora’s music has resonated with millions of listeners worldwide.

She is one of the artists with the most monthly listeners on Spotify in the Balkans (having reached over 3 million monthly listeners) thanks to her song “Džanum”, who went viral on TikTok and becabe a global hit.

Despite personal challenges, including the loss of her father, Teya’s music remains an expression of hope and resilience.

She graduated from Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, before focusing on writing her own music. She wrote her first song, “Da na Meni je,” in late 2018 and released the track in July of the following year. The song was an instant success and gave her a rapid influx of recognition in the Serbian music industry.

Her favourite singer is Marija Šerifović, who won the Eurovision Song Contest for Serbia in 2007.

The Rehearsal

The staging is very similar to when Teya Dora won Pesma za Evroviziju, Serbia’s national finals. A big rock (we think the same one as the NF, but can’t been 100% sure), shadowy lighting, graphics of clouds and stars and lightning, finishing with a blooming ramonda flower. Not a lot of changes compared to the first rehearsal.

She is wearing the same outfit as the first rehearsal and on the final run a lot of smoke is added on the Eurovision stage.

Vocally she is on point and once again she delivers a great performance!

Just like last year, some time before the first rehearsals of the countries, the show called “A Little Bit More” aired on the official Eurovision YouTube channel.Advertisement

So, for all this time before the rehearsals, Eurovision TV will upload different performances of the artists, like different versions of their songs, or covers of songs from other artists.

The first video for today, is the Serbian representative Teya Dora, covering her TikTok sensation song, “Džanum” in a new piano version:

The second performance of the day, is the Slovenian representative, Raiven, doing an acoustic version of her Eurovision 2024 song, “Veronika”:

Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal had the most views on the first day?

Yesterday, the big moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived! Rehearsals began with the first seven countries of the first semi-final taking the stage.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. However, the TikTok algorithm is usually able to detect the song used in the video, assign it to the correct track, and then include it in the total number of videos where that sound has been used. Based on this capability, the most popular songs before rehearsals were from the Netherlands and Italy. Will they receive the same promotion as before?

In less than 24 hours (April 28, 2024, time 17:20 CET), since the first clip from the rehearsals was uploaded, we have a indicative sample of which rehearsal was favored by the audience (here it should be noted that the videos were uploaded one after the other with a one and a half hour interval and there was a significant delay in their publication).

The rehearsals that had the most views are:

  1. Poland: LUNA – The Tower – 711.3 thousand views
  2. Ukraine: alyona alyona & Jerry Heil – Teressa & Maria – 608.1 thousand views
  3. Serbia: Teya Dora – Ramonda – 606.7 thousand views
  4. Croatia: Baby Lasagna – Rim Tim Tagi Dim – 484.7 thousand views
  5. Ireland: Bambie Thug – Doomsday Blue – 208.7 thousand views
  6. Cyprus: Silia Kapsis – Liar -195.8 thousand views
  7. Lithiania: Silvester Belt – Luktelk – 193 thousand views

With this small sample, we can infer that:

  • Poland’s performance possibly appealed to fans, with the caveat that the stage presence was a surprise – either positively or negatively.
  • The rehearsals of Ukraine and Serbia also gained huge popularity, surpassing the following four positions in views, demonstrating their strength in the semifinal.
  • Croatia, as one of the major favorites of the competition, did not gather particularly high views, although fans and betting companies have placed it at the top for victory, resulting in the stage presence not making enough of an impression.
  • Similarly, Lithuania did not impress fans at all, as it maintained the same appearance as its national final.

TikTok has played a significant role in the success of Eurovision songs in recent years. The Rehearsal

The staging for this song is very similar to when TEYA DORA won Pesma za Evroviziju, Serbia’s national finals, back in March. TEYA DORA’s costume is a dark grey dress with a long layered skirt – all very dramatic and atmospheric.

PYRO UPDATE! Lots and lots of smoke in the final run through, so that’s what you’ll see on 7th May. For art fans, it reminds us of Caspar David Friedrich’s Wanderer above the Sea of Fog. Niche, we know.

The second rehearsal of Serbia will take place on Wednesday May 1st, when we will have a better picture of what we will see from Teya Dora on the Eurovision stage, as we will have the official TV snippet.

The grand final of Pesma za Evroviziju 2024 was held a few days ago in Belgrade, after two semi-finals culminating in the shocking victory of Teya Dora with the song “Ramonda”.

Serbia: More than 1.5 half million viewers for the Grand Final of Pesma za Evroviziju 2024!

Last night, PZE 2024, the Serbian national selection for Eurovision 2024, was concluded. During the three-hour broadcast on the RTS channel, more than 1,645,000 viewers tuned in, while the audience share reached 25%.

Along with RTS’s traditional broadcast on TV, PZE 2024 was also broadcasted live on YouTube for the international audience. 95 thousand viewers were tuned in during the winner’s announcement, reaching a record number, while more than 700 thousand people watched the broadcast live or, following the conclusion, in demand.

The selection was considered a success, as the audience’s interest was really high, Indicatively, RTS’s readership on Eurovision articles was increased, videos of PZE’s 2024 participants on RTS’s TikTok account received more than four million views, while the official #PZE24 hashtag on X trended globally throughout its three-shows run.

Ultimately, 206.499 SMS were collected, another record for PZE, while all revenue from PZE 2024 voting would be donated to philanthropy.

In the end, Teya Dora was crowned the winner of PZE 2024 with her entry “Ramona“. Teya finished first in the jury and second in public’s vote and will fly the Serbian flag to Malmö. Serbia is allocated to perform at the first half of the first semi-final on May 7.

Serbia: Breskvica after the end of Pesma za Evroviziju 2024!

Pesma za Evroviziju 2024 was completed yesterday, with Teya Dora and “Ramonda” as the winner of the Serbian national final.

People‘s favourite – as the televoting proved – Breskvica, came in second place, with her fans already starting a petition for a repeat of the jury‘s vote that placed her in sixth place.

This morning, she posted a story on her personal Instagram account (@brrrreskvica) which seems to close – at least for this year – the contest’s chapter.

In particular, it says:

“Good morning my dears,
I am contacting you now because we celebrated a bit last night and I wanted to put down the phone and enjoy the company of my family and team.
I want to thank you for all the votes (and emphasize once again that they went to a humanitarian cause, so I’m even happier that there were so many) and for your support which was truly tremendous.
I also want to publicly congratulate our beloved Teya Dora and wish her the best of luck. We will all be supporting you.
Now back to old habits, commitments and, of course, performances.
I look forward to seeing you all.
I love you all, Breskvica”

Serbia will be represented in the 68th Eurovision Song Contest by Teya Dora with the song “Ramonda”, where she will perform in the first half of the first semi-final!
