Netherlands: Duncan Laurence interested in hosting Eurovision if Joost Klein wins!

Joost Klein, the Dutch representative for Eurovision 2024, unveiled his entry “Europapa” a week ago. “Europapa” has grown in popularity in the Netherlands over the last week, with Dutch fans ecstatic about a strong performance in Malmö.

The excitement is so high that Duncan Laurence, the winner of Eurovision 2019, has publicly stated his desire to host Eurovision 2025 if Joost Klein wins in Malmö.

Specifically, Duncan Laurence mentions:

I like individuality and authenticity. That is Joost to the core. I think his song is great.

Europapa” is a major streaming success, with 1.2 million streams in the first 24 hours of release. In fact, Joost Klein surpassed Duncan Laurence’s record of one million Spotify streams in the first 24 hours of “Arcade’s” release.

The aforementioned cannot go unnoticed with Duncan Laurence saying:

It was about time that was broken. I’m glad Joost did that. We have known each other for quite a long time, we once attended the same event together. Joost is very good at dealing with media and social media, which will work greatly in his favor. I hope he wins and brings the Eurovision Song Contest back to the Netherlands. If that happens, I will sign up as a presenter.

I can put that so-called English accent of mine to good use for once, and I also speak a little bit of French.

The Netherlands will perform at the second half of the second semi-final on May 9.

Netherlands: The representative will be revealed on December 11!

The wait for the announcement of the Dutch representative at Eurovision 2024 is almost over. Following an extensive internal selection, it is now confirmed that AVROTROS will announce its Eurovision 2024 participant on December 11.

The process of the Dutch internal selection

Following the closing of the submission window on early October, the Dutch selection committee had to evaluate more than 600 submissions. Those 600 submissions were shortlisted to nine and then to five. The five favorites for the Dutch representation were asked to sing their songs live in front of the selection committee in order to have their vocal abilitites evaluated and not repeat this year’s scenario, which led to the first Dutch non-qualification in eight years of a successful course.

Hence, one of the criteria under which the Dutch representative will be chosen will have to be the live vocals and performance skills.

The three potential candidates

Moreover and according to the radio station “Radio 538“, there are three candidates most likely to represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, all of them females. Specifically, those three artists are

  • Karsu
  • Numidia and
  • Ilse DeLange

Numidia and Karsu became famous after taking part at “Best Singers”, a musical competition in the Netherlands. Numidia’s song for Eurovision 2024 is written by a former Eurostar, Douwe Bob who represented the Netherlands  in Eurovision 2016 and according to him, had also submitted a song for himself.

Ilse DeLange is the one of “The Common Linnets” duo, that represented The Netherlands at Eurovision 2014, finishing second. Although and according to her manager, Ilse DeLangewill not be taking part at Eurovision 2024.

The Netherlands were represented at Eurovision 2023 by Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper with their song “Burning Daylight“. Their performance did not convince the European audience, failing to qualify to the Grand Final of the competition.

Netherlands: Douwe Bob has submitted two entries for Eurovision 2024!

The Netherlands has confirmed its 2024 participation and furthermore has initiated its selection process, which will be, as usual, internal. Interested artists were invited to submit their entries back in July with the submission window closing a few days ago. A record of more than 600 songs it is known to be submitted and at a later stage reviewed by a professional jury, which will select the next Dutch act.

Douwe Bob’s involvement in the selection process was first rumored in July. Now, it is confirmed that the ex-Dutch participant from 2016 is the co-writer of Numidia’s submitted song for Eurovision 2024. Numidia is a 24 years-old Dutch-Moroccan artist, who is best known for participating in The Voice of Kids, reaching the finals as well as in Best Zangers, where she was a co-participant of Douwe Bob.

Douwe Bob seems really excited about the song he co-wrote, mentioning that:

The song is in English but it also features the Berber language. The song is about connecting and looking beyond what we are taught. It’s a very connecting song. Open your eyes and we are all one, that’s the main message.

Meanwhile, it is reported that Douwe Bob has also submitted an entry himself, which indicates a possible Eurovision return as a singer. However, Douwe Bob said he would be prepared to withdraw his entry if it meant that Numidia could travel to Malmö.

Douwe Bob represented The Netherlands in Eurovision 2016 with his song “Slow Down“, finishing in the 11th place.
