Italy: Changes in Sanremo 2026 – Different Approaches from Carlo Conti and RAI

In contrast to what Carlo Conti stated regarding Sanremo 2026, proposing to keep the same voting system, the director of entertainment programming at RAI, Marcello Ciannamea, is announcing changes.

Immediately after the completion of this year’s Festival, which was marked by unexpected success, Carlo Contihost and artistic director – spoke about the future of the festival. He mentioned that he would prefer to remain solely as the artistic director and not also as the host. Regarding matters like the duration of the festival and the presentation of results, he stated that nothing else should change. Despite strong reactions both within the Teatro Ariston and on social media, Conti made it clear that he would not change the voting system. The biggest point of criticism was the elimination of Giorgia from the final five, a decision that many couldn’t understand, even after the publication of detailed results.

From RAI’s side, Marcello Ciannamea confirmed that they want Carlo Conti as both artistic director and host for Sanremo 2026, adding:

Only a madman would think otherwise.

However, despite the support for Conti, RAI is considering changes to the voting system, with the matter soon to be put up for discussion. Although Ciannamea did not provide any details, changes are expected that may affect the process of selecting the winner.

Additionally, dates for the 76th Sanremo Festival are being reconsidered to avoid a clash with the Winter Olympics broadcasts.

Stay tuned for all the developments surrounding Sanremo!
