Ukraine: More than 100 songs have already been submitted for Eurovision 2023!

An impressive number of 106 entries have been collected so far for Vidbir 2023 , with just ten days left to submit entries.

In fact, the music producer of the national selection of Ukraine, Dmytro Shurov, in recent statements said:

Ukraine should be represented in Great Britain by a cool artist and a bright track. This is a unique chance and honor to represent our country in such a difficult time, to convey our message to the world, to draw attention to our music and culture. To everyone with whom we already communicate, and to everyone who is still thinking and hesitating, LET’S GO! Read the rules and submit a song here.

We remind you that the final of Vidbir 2023 will be held on December 17th in Kyiv at the Maidan Nezalezhnosti metro station. The winner of the final will represent Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in the United Kingdom and will be chosen by a combination of voting by the television audience and the jury, whose members will be chosen by the public.

Kalush Orchestra who won the 2022 competition in Turin, holds the record for televoting points in the history of the competition and they also finished fourth in the jury. Due to the ongoing war, Ukraine will not host Eurovision 2023, marking the first time since 1980 that the contest will not be held in the previous winning country.

Norway: Arianrhod Engebø and Staysman to present Melodi Grand Prix 2023!

Norwegian broadcaster NRK has revealed that Arian Engebø and Stian Thorbjørnsen will be the presenters of Melodi Grand Prix 2023.

Arian has many presentations to her name, having recently hosted this year’s VG-Lista Rådhusplassen. Engebø has also become a well-known NRK voice in recent years. Together with Nate Kuhunga, they have the radio program “StudioP3”. Stian “Staysman” Thorbjørnsen, has participated in the Norwegian selection, once in 2015 with “En godt stekt pizza”, and most recently in 2021 as part of Landeveiens helter.

So from “StudioP3” Stian, with a specially written song for the occasion, mentioned that he will be joined by the hostess of next year’s Melodi Grand Prix.

Staysman says he feels lucky to now be leading the competition alongside someone who is as excited about the concept as he is.

This means that  Kåre Magnus Bergh  will be out of the presenting role. He is the longest-serving MGP presenter – twice as many as Odd Grythe , who had six, from 1960 to 1965.

MGP will start on January 14th .

Melodi Grand Prix is expected to follow a similar format to previous years, with the contest consisting of several semi-finals and a final. All of the results are expected to be decided by public voting alone. Exact details on the format will be released in due course.

Subwoolfer represented Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with “Give That Wolf a Banana”. They finished 10th in the Grand Final scoring 182 points.

Kazakhstan: Possibilities for a Kazakh participation in Eurovision 2023 still exist!

Kazakh “Khabar Agency” reports that there are still hopes for a possible participation of Kazakhstan in the European Eurovision Song Contest in the near future.

Speaking at a press conference organized by the Khabar Agency and ORTCOM regarding the participation of Kazakhstan in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, producer Zhan Mukanov spoke about the hopes of “Khabar Agency” and Eurovision 2023. In particular, he stated that:

Since Khabar Agency is an official accredited member of the European Union of Radio and Television Stations, there is every possibility of officializing the participation in Eurovision. I really hope, we hope everything goes well.

Khabar Agency has been an associate member of the Broadcasting Union since 2016, which means that in order to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest they will have to be invited to compete by the EBU.

The only broadcaster that has never been invited to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest without being a full member is Australian broadcaster SBS. SBS was invited as part of the 60th edition of the competition, with the EBU highlighting more than 30 years of broadcasting the competition and Australia’s links to the competition.

Kazakhstan has been participating in Junior Eurovision since the 2018 contest where it has been invited by the contest’s Reference Group to participate. Khabar Agency broadcast the Eurovision Song Contest live in Kazakhstan annually between 2010 and 2021, but did not broadcast the 2022 contest due to low viewership and the high cost of broadcasting.

In 2021, Kazakhstan was represented at Junior Eurovision by Alinur Khamzin & Beknur Zhanibekuly, with “Ertegі әlemі” (Fairy World)

The Kazakh broadcaster is currently seeking full EBU membership, which would allow the country to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest.
