Italy: Artists rumored for Sanremo 2020

In less than two months, the 70th Sanremo Festival will take place, and the winner will be honored to represent Italy at Eurovision 2020. All this time, the media continues to speculate on what artists we will see on stage, in Teatro Ariston, to compete for the “golden lion”.

With a slight delay over previous years, we will find out on January 6 – during the Special Lottery – the names of the 20 participants of the 70th anniversary edition of the festival. Some argue that, given the amount of proposals, their number could increase.

The two biggest music sites in the country (All Music Italia and floral music), which usually fall in the midst of most forecasts, have been rumored for days. So let’s look at the names they mention.

The Eurostars who return

Several former Italian names in the song contest appear to be trying to get back on the Eurovision stage through Sanremo 2020.

The name that definitely stands out is that of Francesco Gabbani who represented Italy at Eurovision 2017 with “Occidentali’s Kara”. For Francesco we informed you again in our previous article. Following the moderate acceptance of his summer single “Altro cosa”, Sanremo is the best way to promote his new job.

Raphael Gualazzi and Nina Zilli also want to join. The first one entered Eurovision in 2011 with second place with “Madness of Love”, the last with “L’amor e femmina” next year, reaching ninth place. The question is whether their record labels – Sugar and Universal – give priority to them and not to some of their other colleagues.

Perhaps the most famous couple on the Italian music scene, Al Bano & Romina, who represented Italy twice at Eurovision (1976 and 1985), both winning seventh place, return to Ariston 30 years later.

Two other eurostars likely to compete at Sanremo 2020, though only as composers, are Mahmood, this year’s Eurovision essential triumph, with a track written for Chiara Galiazzo and Fabrizio Moro, who won fifth place in 2018 together with Ermal Meta, and will sign Noemi’s participation.

The other names

Among the names we might see at Sanremo 2020 is Matteo Bocelli, his son Andrea, who could begin his solo career, where it all began for his father.

Irama, considered a favorite in 2019 and possibly disappointed by the seventh place he eventually received, and Elodie, are likely to try in 2020 as well.

A band beloved by fans of the competition in 2018, The Kolors will strive for something better than the eighth place they took then.

The names of Federica Carta and Riccardo “Riki” Marcuzzo are also mentioned, though they will be chosen only if they have a very strong song.

Giusy Ferreri will be present as either a performer or a songwriter, and is already looking for a song that will stand out at the Sanremo festival, as she has not been able to stand out in all her previous entries.

Last but not least, Anastasio, the last winner of the X Factor, is among the candidates. The rapper is called to release his debut album. A participation in the Sanremo Festival will be the appropriate advertisement for both his record label and March tour, which he has already announced.

The 70th Sanremo Song Festival will take place at Teatro Ariston in the small town of Liguria, San Remo, from February 4 to February 8, 2020.

Italy: €40 million in advertising revenue for Sanremo 2020 broadcasts

RAI and the new artistic director of the Sanremo Festival, Amadeus, are in a fever pitch to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the historic music festival. As the Italian public television announced recently, the advertising time during the 5-day broadcast of the Sanremo 2020 has already been sold, for a record price of 40 million Euros!

The advertising time during the broadcasts of the 70th Sanremo Italian Song Festival costs approx. 12.000 per second! Of course the exclusive rights of Sanremo are reserved by RAI, which proves that a public television can be both competitive, commercial, and quality!

Advertising time has been sold for all five nights of the festival. RAI earns a record $ 40 million and is the most expensive television time in the country!

The Mediterranean RAI exemplifies in other similar public TVs that when you invest somewhere over time, producing a good result, then you have a program, but you also have income.

We remind you that the 20 artists of the Campioni category of the Sanremo 2020 will be announced in a special show by Amadeus on January 6th. The 70th Sanremo Song Festival will take place at Teatro Ariston in the small town of Liguria, San Remo, from February 4 to February 8, 2020.

Italy: Francesco Gabbani back to Sanremo 2020

A few days ago, an interview that was discussed was given by Francesco Gabbani on fanpage, one of the largest artistic portals in the country. The Italian superstar has revealed that his new song could do well at the Sanremo Festival, and has also postponed its release for the beginning of next year after the 70th Sanremo Festival, which he said would not exclude his participation!

Who is Francesco Gabbani?

Surely most of you still remember Francesco Gabbani from his win at Sanremo three years ago and his subsequent participation in Eurovision 2017 in Kiev with “Occidentali’s Karma”. There, while he was one of the biggest betting favorites to have ever gone through the history of the contest, with odds ranging from 1 to 1.3, he was eventually limited to sixth place in the standings.

Nevertheless, he remains one of the most popular Italian singers, with countless sold out appearances, platinum records and millions of streams on Spotify and views on YouTube. He also holds the record with the most millions of views on YouTube for participating in the Eurovision Song Contest.More than 228 million at the time of writing this article.

With Duemeladiciannove at Sanremo 2020?

His new song is called “Duemeladiciannove” and he dedicates it to his fans, who have been supporting him for so many years. It has  social content like “Occidentai’s Karma” and Gabbani’s original intention was to release it in the days ahead.

But eventually, and apparently because of his desire to re-attend the Sanremo Festival, he moved his release date for the first months of 2020. He also admits that he would be very positive about such a possibility and that “Duemeladiciannove” could have a very good run at the Festival.

Of course, in order to see Francesco Gabbani among the Sanremo 2020 contestants, Amadeus has to choose him. This, of course, is not unlikely, since artists such as Francesco Gabbani will raise the interest of the public and the media. The 20 artists of the Campioni category will be announced in a special show by Amadeus on January 6th, so we’ll know if Francesco Gabbani is among them.

We remind you that the 70th Sanremo Festival will take place from 4 to 8 February 2020 at the Teatro Ariston in Sanremo. The winner of the Festival will be given the opportunity to represent Italy at Eurovision 2020 next May in Rotterdam. You can refer to our previous article on the detailed rules and how the winner of the Sanremo 2020 will emerge.

Italy: Nicola Caligiore resigns as Head of Delegation

According to what became publicly, Nicola Caligiore resigned from RAI and subsequently from his  posts in Italian public broadcaster. This means that he is leaving the post of Head of Delegation, but also of the Reference Group, of which he was a member.

This is certainly an unpleasant development, as Nicola Caligiore was essentially the soul of the contest in Italy and was the main reason RAI decided in 2011 to return to Eurovision. Within a few years, he managed to get Eurovision at quite high viewing rates and increase domestic interest, sending out standings that were almost always in the top three. In the nine years since returning to Italy, RAI has won two second and one third place, with four more in the top ten. A key element of this success was the reconnection of the Sanremo Festival with the Eurovision Contest.

We look forward to his replacement, both in the position of Head of delegation and in the Reference Group. Montenegro’s head of delegation, Sabrija Vulic, was the first runner-up in the election for the Reference Group’s elected members last March. The fact that Montenegro is not participating in Eurovision 2020 is not a problem, as its public television is normally an active member of EBU.

What remains to be seen now is whether the resignation of Nicola Caligiore is related to the claim of the EBU Executive Supervisor position, as is likely the case of the resignation of Czech Head of Mission, Jan Bors.

Italy: Sanremo 2020- major changes in voting system| The winner reserves the right to representation at Eurovision!

RAI recently published the regulations of the 70th Sanremo Festival. The winner, with a slight differentiation, reserve the right to represent Italy at Eurovision 2020. The big changes concern the voting system, which is virtually completely different from what was in force until today.

Televoting only at the final

Many of you may remember that this year’s Sanremo festival was marked by the wide divergence of press and specialist voting over that of the television audience. Wanting to alleviate this problem, the festival’s new artistic director, Amadeus, is introducing a new way of voting. Eurovisionfun introduces you that, as simple as possible:

  • Tuesday 4 February 2020
The first ten candidates for the Campioni category will submit their entries. Only the pollboard has the right to vote. *

* The demo committee is made up of 300 fans across Italy who vote electronically from their home and have been specifically selected for this purpose, with demographic, age and other quality features.

  • Wednesday 5 February 2020
The other ten Campioni candidates will present their entries in Ariston for the first time. Only the poll Committee votes again.
  • Thursday 6 February 2020, cover night
The 20 Campioni perform an older participation from the 70-year history of the Sanremo Festival, accompanied by any other Italian or foreign artist they wish. It’s the well-known night of covers. Only the members of the Festival’s live band and vocal singers determine the score this night. In the end, the highest rated contestant will receive the prize of cover

Contrary to what happened in previous years, the score of this night will count toward the end result.

  • Friday 7 February 2020
The 20 Campioni artists will perform for the second time at the festival. However, only the press committee will vote that night. **

** The press committee is made up of all accredited journalists who cover the festival and watch the festival from the roof of the Teatro Ariston.

  • Saturday February 8, 2020, Final
The 20 Campioni are performing for the third and last time. This time we have the triple vote that was in action at previous festivals. Televoting, polling committee and press committee, with televoting accounting for 50% of the results. The overall ranking will be an average of the votes of all nights and various prizes will be awarded.

A second round of voting will then take place with the top three artists voting to select the winner, who will represent Italy at the 65th Eurovision Song Contest if he wishes so. The voting system in the second round will be the same as in the first round of voting on the fifth night.

Changes in rating

As you can see, there are enough innovations in this year’s voting system. On the one hand, after the inconvenience  set up at Sanremo 2019, the panel of experts is completely removed, whose results were in stark contrast to the results of the public and accounted for 20% of the result. The press committee and poll committee will evaluate the songs on different nights and only in the final we will have the well-known triple voting of Sanremo.

The big differentiation of course comes on the night of the covers. The important thing is that after many years the members of the orchestra and vocal singers will play a significant role on the final result, since in addition to being the ones to score on the night of the covers, their score will be counted towards the final result, despite the fact that the contestants will perform different songs than their regular entries.

The winner of Sanremo has the first reason for Rotterdam

For another year, RAI intends to send Sanremo winner to the Eurovision Song Contest. A prerequisite is, of course, that he himself wants it. If the winner of the Sanremo 2020 does not wish to represent Italy in Rotterdam, then Italian public broadcaster reserves the right to choose any other artist of the Campioni category, on its own criteria.

We have a slight change here, as RAI asks the 20 major Sanremo 2020 contestants to clarify by the first night of the festival on February 4, whether they want to join Eurovision or not. This means that RAI will know on Saturday night, February 8, 2020, whoever won the prize, its representative at the 650 Eurovision Song Contest.

We remind you that the 20 artists of the Campioni category will be announced in a special broadcast by Amadeus on January 6th. The 70th Sanremo Song Festival will take place at Teatro Ariston in the small town of Liguria, San Remo, from February 4 to February 8, 2020.

Italy: Enormous interest in Sanremo Giovani

The countdown has begun for Sanremo Giovani with a new record to reward the artistic director Amadeus‘ decision to bring the category “Nuove Proposte (New Proposals)” to the renowned SanremoFestival. 842 participants expressed their desire to participate in this category. 163 more entries than last year were submitted to the music committee, with the increase reaching 24%.

Specifically, there are 743 singers (420 men and 323 women) and 99 groups. Most of the applications (365, corresponding to 43.35%) come from from the Italian South , the North follows with 299 (35.51%), while the Central Italy will have 167 representatives at the big celebration of Italian song (19.83%). The Italians abroad will also be represented with 11 contestants claiming the gold ticket for the final.

The music committee chaired by Amadeus as artistic director, consisting of Claudio Fasulo, Gianmarco Mazzi, Massimo Martelli and Leonardo De Amicis will initially select the first 60 artists to participate in the auditions. in Rome on November 3, at the Teatro delle Vittorie.

At the end of the audition, 20 groups and artists will be selected to participate in the semi-final of the institution. The semifinals of Sanremo Giovani will be aired on 4 different episodes through RAI television on November 16,23,30 and December 7. At the end of this process there will be the 10 finalists of Sanremo Giovani, who will renew their “meeting” with the Italian public on December 19 in the grand final.

The top 5 of the grand final  will be invited to join Teatro Ariston in February and the final of the “Nuove Proposte” category. In addition to the 5 winners of Sanremo Giovani, 2 artists from the greater area of the city of Liguria as well as the winner of Sanremo Young will compete on the stage of the Sanremo Festival.

Italy: Lady Gaga at Sanremo 2020?

A bomb news has been circulating in Italy for the last few hours. According to local media, the new artistic director and presenter of the Sanremo Festival, Amadeus, has approached Lady Gaga to appear as a guest at the Teatro Ariston during Sanremo 2020.

Shallow Moments at Teatro Ariston

One of the prerequisites Amadeus set for RAI to assume the role of presenter and artistic director of the Sanremo Festival was the return of international stars as guests, something Baglioni’s predecessor abolished, as he preferred only domestic guests.

After Madonna, Amadeus concludes that Lady Gaga would be the best choice, as she is at the top of her career this year.

The revelation was made by Spy magazine. The article mentions the new artistic director’s attempt to bring one of the most successful international singers and actors to the city of Liguria on the occasion of the 70th edition of the Sanremo Festival. Although he is aware that Lady Gaga is not an easily accessible name for RAI budget, it seems that Amadeus is determined at all costs to do this.

The negotiations are currently completing one of the dreams Amadeus expressed when he agreed to take over the San Remo Festival: to bring Lady Gaga to Ariston stage . The cost of the business is prohibitive for RAI funds, but the team is trying to find creative solutions …

The first names for the Campioni category

Another important piece of information mentioned in the SPY article is the first names of artists that Amadeus would like to compete in at Sanremo 2020. Some of them are Al Bano, Elettra Lamborghini and Alberto Urso.

We remind you that the nominees for the category of renowned artists at the Sanremo Festival 2020 will be revealed on January 6th. The Sanremo 2020 will take place from February 4 to February 8, 2020. Although RAI has confirmed its participation in Eurovision 2020, it has not yet revealed whether its representative will make it through the historic Liguria festival, though it seems most likely.

Italy: It will be present in Rotterdam

Italy’s public broadcaster, RAI, today confirmed the country’s intention to participate in the Eurovision 2020 song contest to be held in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in May.

Although information has already been released about the Sanremo festival, the country’s public television has not yet announced whether it will  choose the country’s participation in Eurovision through the famous festival again.

The last five consecutive years – but other years – the winner of the Sanremo festival also represent Italy at the Eurovision contest.

As everyone shows, this year the same way will be chosen. The 70th festival will take place from February 4 to February 8.

Italy in 2019 was represented by Mahmood with the song “Soldi”, finishing in 2nd place and achieving great success in many European countries.

Italy:The dates of the 70th Sanremo Festival revealed

The 70th Sanremo Festival will be held at the Teatro Ariston on February 4-8, 2020. This is all that became known from the meeting between RAI and the Sanremo’s city officials earlier this month.

The favorite for the position of presenter / artistic director

Since Claudio Baglioni has resigned as an artistic director and host of the last two very successful editions of the Festival, nobody seems to know who will take that position or whether there will be a distinguished artistic director and presenter.

Numerous names have already been rumored for the new artistic director such as  Carlo Conti, Andrea Bocelli and Lucio Presta recently, as well as Amadeus and Alessandro Cattalan, without excluding Baglioni for one more year, though  this seems unlikely.

Another name that sounds great is Paolo Bonolis, who, however, in unsubstantiated time, has stated that he will only do so if Sanremo departs from the tiny Ariston theater, and could do a great event like  Eurovision in a larger arena.

Meanwhile, the municipality of Sanremo, co-organizer of the Festival together with RAI, looks at the possibility of building a new space (3000-4000 capacity) in the near future for the festival, which seems to be encouraged by Rai.  The female face that will be found next to any male host it will be Diletta Leotta.

The Mayor of Sanremo is worried-the voting system is changing

However, the mayor of Sanremo expressed his concern on the delay of  the whole organization this year and stressed the importance of getting the best possible preparations, since in 2020 we will have the 70th edition of the Festival.  He also underlined the importance of the Young Artists Festival (which recently gave us names like Francesco Gabbani, Ermal Meta and Mahmood).

After the disappointment followed Mahmood’s victory, thanks to the judging panels (even if the audience showed that loved his song along the way), the voting system and the winning method will be reviewed and a special team is working on it. However, 100% televoting even at Superfinal seems unlikely.

The next meeting will take place in September, when we will have the official announcements about the new presenter and artistic director of the Festival.

Nevertheless, whether Italy uses or not m the Sanremo Festival this year to choose its representative in the Eurovision Song Contest will be announced  when the regulations of the 70th Festival will be officially published.  However, it is most likely that RAI will use again the Festival winner in the upcoming Song contest in the Netherlands.

RAI’s president: “Sanremo’s voting system should be fixed”

One week after the end of the 69th Sanremo Festival and the reactions have not yet stopped, due to the unexpected results and the enormous difference in the results of the audience and the juries. RAI’s president, Marcello Foa, in his statements, seems to take his reactions into account and announces the change of the voting system at the historic Festival. Read more
