Cyprus: RIK replied to EBU regarding Fame Story! | Full confirmation for Eurovisionfun!

Our exclusive article on Cyprus is now fully confirmed by Grigoris Melas’ article on Newsit. According to his article, RIK (CyBC) following the teleconference with ERT and the EBU moved on by sending a reply letter in which they revealed that they are going to choose their next representative for the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest through an internal selection process, while official announcement are scheduled for the very near future, information that posted first by Eurovisionfun.

RIK’s reply to EBU

Since the latest developments are a deterrent to the realization of the Fame Story together with the Cypriot representation as a prize, RIK proceeded with a reply letter to the EBU in which, according to the information of Grigoris Melas, it is clarified that it is immediately proceeding with an internal selection process, with the announcements coming very soon, so that there is no misunderstanding with ERT that the artist that will be selected will be someone from Fame Story.

Fame Story follows a separate course

Despite the disconnection of the Fame Story show with the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, its preparations are going on as per schedule. The auditions will start in due time.

The new trailer of the show is already aired and it has no reference to the Cypriot representation as a prize neither on TV nor on the Star Channel and the Fame Story official sites.

The upcoming talent show is not even going to be aired by CyBC but instead by the private Cypriot channel OMEGA, the channel which Star Channel collaborates with in Cyprus.

Artist announcement soon

As you have already read first on Eurovisionfun, RIK lost no time and found the artist who is going to represent Cyprus at Eurovision 2024.

We will officially get to know their identity and the first insight on the Cypriot participation in Malmö in due time. People of the Cypriot delegation are optimistic that next year Cyprus will achieve a better result than this year’s 12th place in the grand final with Andrew Lambrou.

EBU: Eurovision Organizers debate on the A.I. exclusion from the Contest!

The banning of the Artificial Intelligence from the Eurovision Song Contest is on the table.

The organisers of the biggest music show in the world have just started discussing the possibility of excluding A.I. produced content from Eurovision.

Jean-Philip de Tender, Deputy Director General of the European Broadcasting Union, on an interview to Bloomberg at the Edinburgh TV Festival commented that:

“What if at the Eurovision Song Contest we suddenly get an AI-created song?”

The EBU is “reflecting on how we need this in the rulebook, that the creativity should come from humans and not from machines.”

“The competition should reward “people on stage, who have achieved
something in writing a song and performing a song.”

However, in the past, the Eurovision Song Contest inspired the A.I. experiments. In 2019, partially produced by Oracle Corp. algorithms analyzed numerous past participation in order to produce the lyrics and the melody of “Blue Jeans and Bloody Tears” a duet between the 1978 Israeli winner Izhar Cohen and a pink robot.

Has the Artificial Intelligence a place in the Contest or should it be banned from it? Let us know your thought in the comments below.

EXCLUSIVE: Cyprus will internally select its entry for Eurovision 2024 | The artist announcement soon to be made!

As the “Fame Story” selection format is opted out, Cyprus will choose its entry for Eurovision 2024 internally and we are really close to the announcement of the artist that will fly the Cypriot flag to Malmö next year.

Internal selection is the final solution for Cyprus

Regardless the initial idea of hosting a national final in January live from Nicosia, with 3 to 5 competing participants, the Cypriot National television decided to use the method of internal selection in order to select its next Eurovision act. Cyprus has been choosing its Eurovision acts internally since 2016 and RIK’s choice is proven to have an effect. Since 2016, Cyprus has managed to qualify to the Grand Final every time, except in one occasion, in 2022.

RIK’s team, considering that they have a strong song in their hands, but also an artist who can impress on the stage of the competition and wanting to defuse the tension between RIK and ERT regarding Fame Story, accelerated all the internal procedures needed for the internal selection.

Fame Story goes to OMEGA

It is indicative that Fame Story, no longer associated with the Eurovision contest and the Cypriot representation in it, will not even be broadcast on RIK. Based on what it was announced to the media in the last few hours, the musical talent show will be broadcast by OMEGA TV, as is the case with all STAR programs in Cyprus.

The official announcement in the coming days

Barring the unexpected, Cyprus will be the first country to announce its artist for Eurovision 2024.

It is just a matter of time till the official announcements are made from RIK, naming the artist who will succeed Andrew Lambrou on the stage of the competition.

We are sure the this announcement will cause a sensation among Eurovision fans. We will soon find out!

United Kingdom: Internal selection is the most likely scenario for Eurovision 2024!

United Kingdom, the host country of Eurovision 2023 recently announced that will not longer collaborate with TaP in order to select its Eurovision acts. BBC first collaborated with Tap Records in 2022, managing to achieve a 2nd place with Sam Ryder. This marked UK’s best result since 1998, which consequently brought Eurovision in British grounds. Sam Ryder’s success, renewed their collaboration for 2023 and the nation was represented by Mae Muller, who did not only repeat 2022 success, but instead finished second-last

Since the announcement of the departure of TaP from the British Eurovision selection, a reasonable question was raised regarding the method under which BBC will choose its next Eurovision act. The answer is given by the Head of BBC Entertainment who commented that:

It has been really good working with Tap, actually, and using their expertise. We have had two amazing finalists and the British public have gotten behind them. Sam Ryder is a proper superstar now. This years entry has been in the top ten and done really well.

People have talked to me ‘should we do a big show on the BBC, how do we select our next act?’ It is a big thing singing live in those giant arenas, and you do need a really experienced performer who has done arena shows before to do that. I think we will continue going to specialists in the industry to help us pick our act going forward.

Bearing in mind the above, we can assume that BBC will continue to choose its next Eurovision act internally for the 5th time in a row. A national selection is probably not in the plans of BBC as its number-one priority on selecting an artist is experience and expertise.

Mae Muller although being a fan favorite did not come to bookies expectations and finished second-last. She was highly criticized inside the UK for her weak performance and vocals and probably her low placement raised doubts on which should the British contestants’ standards be.

Netherlands: Jacqueline Govaert and Jaap Reesema are the new members of the selection comitee for Eurovision 2024!

After the addition of Jacqueline Govaert and Jaap Reesema, the jury of AVROTROS for Eurovision 2024 is now complete. Together with the president Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen as well as Carolien Borgers, Hila Noorzai, Cornald Maas and Sander Lantinga, they will choose the artist and the song that will represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Sweden!

Singer-songwriters Jacqueline Govaert and Jaap Reesema bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the panel. Both are in contact with various Dutch artists and producers, so that the country’s music industry can be properly represented. Both artists have delivered several hits, written and produced many songs for other artists, and are completely up-to-date on what’s happening in the global music industry.

The head of delegation, Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen, said that:

“Through our conversations, I know that Jacqueline and Jaap always enjoy following the Eurovision Song Contest and are highly motivated to recognize that one rock-solid song that can conquer all of Europe and the rest of the world. Many unknown and well-known artists have already registered. Now that the selection committee is complete, I am even more looking forward to the final choice that we will make together.”

Jacqueline Govaert said after being added to the jury panel:

“Hearing a good song sung well for the first time has something magical about it. I am really looking forward to listening to the submissions together with the other committee members and finding the perfect song!”

In the end, Jaap Reesema, stated:

I really like the opportunity to contribute to the creation of great international success for a Dutch product. Watch the winning song ‘Arcade’ by Duncan Laurence. It now has more than 1 billion Spotify streams, unprecedented! The Eurovision Song Contest can do that for a song and for an artist. I am convinced that we have enough talented, creative people in the Netherlands to take the win again and I will dedicate myself 100% to make that happen!

Artists, composers, lyricists, producers and record labels can still register until Saturday 30 September. The aim is to make the final choice by mid-December at the latest.

Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper represented the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, but they failed to qualify for the final, leaving the country out, for the first time since 2016:
