Slovenia: The country’s entry for Eurovision 2024 will be released on January 20!

The song that will represent Slovenia in the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in May in Malmö, Sweden, will be revealed on January 20, as stated by the country’s public broadcaster RTVSLO.

The Slovenian representative is to be revealed tomorrow at a press conference.

The selection procedure

The selection of the Slovenian entry was made internally through the ‘Misija Malmö’ procedure. More precisely, over 100 songs were submitted to compete for the Slovenian representation, according to the country’s public broadcaster. Five of these songs then advanced to the next round of the process, where the ultimate winner was determined, following an assessment conducted by an RTVSLO committee that was especially constituted for this purpose.

Last year, Slovenia was represented by Joker Out with the song “Carpe Diem”, giving the country its first qualification to the final since 2019!

Slovenia: 4 songs will compete at EMA 2024!

Slovenia’s public broadcaster, RTV, announced that EMA, which was previously used to choose the country’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest, will once more be used, after a year’s absence.

However, there will be certain differences from other years in the competition’s structure. In particular, at most four songs can compete in the EMA, which will take place in January 2024.

The participants must reside in Slovenia, whether they do so continuously or just occasionally. This requirement does not apply to the performers who will provide vocal accompaniment for the main performance.

Interested artists may submit their applications until 15 November 2023.

The four songs will be chosen through voting by global expert committees based on the following criteria: quality, voice and stage presence, popularity, modernity/innovation, and global recognition.

Slovenia confirms Eurovision 2024 participation!

Slovenia has confirmed their participation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

This news do not come as a big surprise after the great success in terms of viewership Eurovision 2023 had in Slovenia.  For instance, the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest this year was watched in Slovenia by more than 895,300 viewers.  Moreover, the Grand Final of this year’s Eurovision has become the most watched television show in the country in the last seven years representing an average of 55% of TV viewers at the time.  The performance of the Slovenian representatives, Joker Out, achieved the highest viewership, when TV SLO 1 got an average 23.2% or 443,500 viewers.

EMA or internal selection

However, it is not clear at this point what will be the selection process for Slovenia’s next representative in Malmö.  As many fans will remember, Joker Out were internally selected.  They gave Slovenia their first pass to the Grand Final since 2019.  Nevertheless it is still too early to rule out another EMA selection because, among other things, the program and business plan for 2024 has not yet been adopted.

Fans shipping for Käärijä/Bojan continues as the BFFs visit Finland!

Käärijä and Bojan became friends during their Eurovision journeys.  The couple fans like to “ship” the most during Eurovision 2023 keep giving fanservice to the avid viewers.  And the fans are enjoying the content.  Based on the figures, social media has exploded during Bojan’s visit to Helsinki where he shared the stage with Käärijä and he even joined him during the “piggy train” dance

Böörijä

Fans have enjoyed so far the “shipping” between Käärijä and Bojan from Joker Out.  In fans circle shipping means pairing together two characters from reality or fiction and speculating about the possibility of them being a real couple.  The fans have coined the term “Böörijä” to refer to the friendship between Käärijä and Bojan Cvjetićan.

Both Käärijä and Bojan have contributed to the shipping publishing videos on Tiktok and Instagram of them teasing the fans.  In a recent Tiktok video we can see Käärijä and Bojan pumping a flamingo in a suggestive manner.  On an instagram story Käärijä and Bojan are watching Twilight together.

“This is you and me” Käärijä comparing himself and Bojan with Bella and Edward from the Twilight saga

The reaction from the fans has been positive.  Fans have liked this type of fanservice so far and have contributed creating their own video compilation of the fictional couple and even making fanfics.  According to Archive of Our Own, fans have created more than 190 Käärijä/Bojan fanfic stories.

It is important to point out however, that shipping between celebrities is a common practice that helps get engagement from the fans as a publicity stunt.  For instance, manager Gregor Zalokar shared a lot of the content created between Käärijä and Bojan.

Whether the Käärijä/Bojan bromance is a publicity stunt or not, the shipping helps the career of the lead singer from Joker Out and the Finnish rapper.  Just to cite an example, Joker Out has its most listeners in Helsinki according to Spotify stats.  Therefore, we can expect that the couple will continue giving their fans more fanservice.

Joker Out will announce their tour dates soon.  One can only speculate if Käärijä will have a special appearance during the Slovenian band tour!
