Netherlands: New lock down. Cafes, restaurants and bars are closing. Prohibition of gatherings of more than 30 people. Record of daily cases!

In a speech to the Dutch people, the country’s Prime Minister Mark Rutte, announced a new mini lockdown after the record number of cases that occurred today in the country.

Following the 7,400 cases of COVID-19 announced today, 13/10, by the competent health services of the Netherlands, the reaction of the Prime Minister, Mark Rutte, was immediate. In an emergency speech to the Dutch people, he announced a new package of strict measures to combat the pandemic.

  • Closing of all cafes, bars, restaurants (only their take away function is allowed).
  • Ban on the sale of alcohol from 6 pm.
  • Mandatory use of mask in all interiors from the age of 13 years.
  • Prohibition of gatherings of more than 30 people.

These measures will be valid for 4 weeks and if the situation does not improve, then even stricter measures will be taken. The Netherlands has had 188,876 cases and 6,631 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic, with the proportion of cases in the population being one of the highest in the world.

However, new measures were announced in other countries, such as Italy, Spain, Belgium, etc.

EBU: “”We are considering two scenarios for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021”

Italy: “Fai Rumore” on the streets because of the coronavirus

For a week now, starting in Lombardy, Italy has been in full quarantine due to the rapid spread of the new coronavirus, COVID-19, as both outbreaks and deaths in the country have been increasing steadily.

Italy’s once-crowded streets are now reminiscent of a dead country, with its citizens unwilling to remain quiet for much longer, wishing to make “some noise” as the title of this year’s Eurovision entry, “Fai Rumore ”.

From the balconies, windows and ceilings of their homes, the Italians are trying to regain some courage because of the pandemic that has ravaged the planet, singing “Fai Rumore” while following the instructions of the state to stay in their homes ( #RestaACasa).

Diodato, for his part, shares via his Instagram account, posts by locals who reproduce “Fai Rumore” loudly on the quieter streets of Italy.

The lyrics of “Fai Rumore” fit perfectly into suffocating quiet Italy as the song refers to an unusual tranquility among people:

You make noise here
And I don’t know if it’s good for me

But make noise, yes
Because I can’t stand it
This unnatural silence

Eurovision 2020: In Mid-April the decisions regarding COVID-19

Eurovision 2020 Committee have a meeting in Rotterdam today about the consequences that the spread of coronavirus may have on the smooth running of the 65th Eurovision Song Contest, two months from today in Rotterdam. Despite differing opinions, everyone agreed that the decisive decision on the fate of the contest would be made in a month from now, sometime in mid-April, since it is now too early to make any estimates about the spread of the virus and the its consequences.

Rotterdam’s chief tourism adviser, Wethouder Kasmi, said there was no reason to cancel Eurovision 2020.

“There is no reason to cancel Eurovision 2020. There will be a new review in mid-April on how things are going. By then we have time”

As the mayor of Rotterdam said, authorities are working closely with the national health agency and any measures they deem appropriate will be taken. So far, however, preparations for the competition are still underway.

There were also voices opposing the above, after Geert Koster, a council member, pointed out that it was irresponsible to bring so many people to Rotterdam when all the details of the new virus had not yet been ascertained.

Israel: Eden Alene will not travel to the Netherlands for postcard filming

Under the shadow of the coronavirus, today’s annual meeting of the Heads of Delegations participating in the 65th Eurovision Song Contest is taking place in Rotterdam.

The coronavirus is increasingly “touching” the preparations  for 65th Eurovision. The Israeli delegation during the meeting informed that the country’s envoy would not travel to the Netherlands to shoot the postcard. Cause, of course, the COVID-19 surge. So there is a big headache about Israel’s postcard. It is possible to either change the project in general or create a postcard without the physical presence of Eden Alene!

During the meeting each country has a representative who is informed about the upcoming Eurovision. The meeting also marks the official deadline for submitting each country’s participation.
