Eurovision 2023: The Grand Final allocation for the Second Semi Final qualifiers!

The first semi-final has just finished, with the first ten finalists being:

Before the press conference that is currently taking place these ten countries chose the half in which they will appear in the Grand Final on Saturday.

This is the half each qualifier drew, from semi final 2:

Eurovision 2023: Watch the exclusive rehearsal footage from today’s second rehearsals!

The preparations on Liverpool for the 67th Eurovision Song Contest are on fire and it’s now a wrap for the 5th day of the technical rehearsals. After their first technical rehearsals, the representatives of the first 5 countries participating in the 2nd Semifinal on May 11, took the stage of the M&S Bank Arena for their second rehearsals.

The second rehearsals gave the opportunity to the delegations to fix any mistakes spotted on the first rehearsals and help the artists feel more safe and familiar with the Eurovision big stage.

Because accredited journalists are not allowed to watch both the first and second rehearsals this year, we have very little information about what this year’s artists have prepared for the Eurovision stage. EBU has just uploaded through the official Eurovision channel in YouTube a recap of today’s rehearsals. More specifically, we will have the chance to watch exclusive TV footage of today’s rehearsals.

The countries that had their second rehearsals today were the following:

  3. Romania
  4. Estonia
  5. Belgium

Eurovision 2023: The Third Day’s rehearsal schedule!

The big moment for all Eurofans has arrived. The wait has come to an end, as we are now in the most important days before the live shows. Rehearsals officially begun yesterday for the 67th Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Liverpool, United Kingdom.

The rehearsals are divided into two phases; the first phase will last three days, from Sunday 30/04 until Tuesday 02/05 and will include the first rehearsals of all the countries taking part in the two semi-finals of the competition. The second phase will last from Wednesday 03/05 until Saturday 06/05 and includes the second rehearsals of the countries of the two semi-finals as well as the rehearsals of the countries competing directly in the Final, namely the Big 5 and last year’s winner Ukraine.

Last year’s changes in the way rehearsals are covered continue this year, as the Press Center opens on Monday after the first and second rehearsals, which means that the information we will have for the first week of the competition will come exclusively from the material to be provided by the EBU to the accredited journalists.

The last eleven countries from the second semi-final will make their first appearance on stage at the M&S Bank Arena. These countries are:

  • Poland 13.30 – 14.00
  • Slovenia 15.10 – 15.40
  • Georgia 15.50 – 16.20

From Monday 8/5, the press center opens normally for accredited journalists, who will have the opportunity to watch the general rehearsals before the live shows as was the case in previous years.

Estonia: ERR coverage of Eurovision 2023!

The Estonian public broadcaster ERR has revealed the coverage for Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

Marko Reikop will be the commentator of the 67th song contest in Liverpool, covering the show in the Estonian language. This is going to be the 28th time that Marko Reikop takes up the role of the commentator since 1994, when Estonia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest. Just before the grand final of Saturday 13rd of May, Kuidas valmistutakse Eurovisiooniks Liverpoolis show will be broadcast getting the public in the Eurovision mood.

Alongside with the coverage in the Estonian language, there is also going to be coverage in the Russian language through ETV+. The Russian coverage will be carried out by Aleksandr Hobotov and Julia Kalenda.

Estonia is being represented by Alika and her song “Bridges” and is going to compete in the second semi-final on Thursday 11th of May from the fourth spot.

The first rehearsal of Estonia is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Tuesday 2nd of May.

Estonia:Tanel Padar and Dave Benton reunite 22 years after their Eurovision victory!

A pleasant surprise filled the Estonian Eurovision fans with joy last Friday during the EFTA awards ceremony.In the first half of the three-hour broadcast of the awards,the duo that brought the Baltic country its first victory 22 years ago performed their winning song “Everybody” on the EFTA awards stage and stole the show.

This performance is, in fact, the first joint performance of the now 72-year-old Benton with the 43-year-old Padar since they won the Eurovision contest in May 2001 in Copenhagen.

This performance stands as an important landmark in the history of the contest as Dave Benton was the first person of color to win the Eurovision song contest and remains the only one to have done so to date.

Estonia,which is the first Baltic and the first ex-Soviet country to have won the contest,is competing in the second semi-final on May 11th with the song “Bridges” sung by Alika.You can watch our team’s reaction video here:

The Netherlands: All the performances of “Eurovision in Concert 2023”!

Eurovision in Concert 2023 took place in AFAS Live in Amsterdam, last night, with 29 of this year’s entrants performing live.

The concert was hosted by Cornald Maas and Hila Noorzai. Cornald has been the Dutch Eurovision commentator since 2006. Hila is a radio DJ and member of the committee that selected this year’s Dutch representatives (Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper). She also hosted the Eurovision 2021 press conference in Rotterdam.

The artists that performed last night were the following:

Albania – Albina & Kelmendi Familija

Balcan sounds and consistent vocals is what we got from Albina and the Kelmendi Family! Might be the suprise entry of this year.

Australia – Voyager

Voyager give what they promise! Rock and electronic sounds, so 2025! What is concerning though, is that even though their song is supposed to be very uplifting, the crowd was too static. Also falsetto was not always on point.

Austria – Teya & Salena

That’s not a song where you can show off some unreal vocals, however it’s the song that will definitely make you dance! And Teya & Salena deliver, solid vocals and much much fun! One of my personal favourites and if you ask me, a finalist and highly likely a Top5 entry!

Azerbaijan – TuralTuranX

TuralTuranX “tell us more” about their entry this year, however I’m still not getting it. A song that I could listen to the radio without complaining, but wouldn’t catch my eye/ear at the contest.

Belgium – Gustaph

The queerest entry of the year! His vocals are as good as the studio version! He is a fun guy! This is the kind of entries that I would like to qualify, even though that’s not the style of songs that I normally listen to!

Czechia – Vesna

I can only comment on their vocals. They were okay. However, this entry started off as a potential winner, but I’m not getting that vibe, at least not yet. But hey! It’s just a party performance! Let’s wait for their contest rehearsals!

Denmark – Reiley

Danish heart-throb Reiley, had his best performance to date. Some minor vocal issues, but overall a nice performance!

Estonia – Alika

Nice song and great vocals! But for me, it’s no more than just that. I wouldn’t be surprised if Estonia got disqualified.

Finland – Käärijä

Normally, that’s a song that I can’t stand listening to for more than 10 seconds. Strangely, combined to his eccentric looks and his super nice personality, I could now handle listening to his entire Amsterdam performance! Personal opinion aside, I can totally see why this is a contender for the win.

France – La Zarra

Unfortunately, after a statement in her personal Twitter account, La Zarra announced that she has to cancel her appearance in Amsterdam, due to personal circumstances.

Germany – Lord of the Lost

I can’t be objective, I don’t like this style of music. I can only be objective about their vocal abilities, which are on point I must admit!

Iceland – Diljá

That’s a song that I would add to my daily playlist, however, this song lacks something that I still don’t know what it is! Diljá’s voice is great admitedly!

Ireland – Wild Youth

“Every Teardrop Is a Waterfall” x “Ritmo De La Noche” x “We Are One” would be a great mashup! I low-key like this song and I loved their Amsterdam performance. But something tells me that they will struggle to qualify this year. Let’s see what happens!

Latvia – Sudden Lights

Another performance that sounds exactly like the recorded version of their song! I didn’t see the love from the AFAS Live crowd.

Lithuania – Monika Linkytė

Monika definitely sounds even better than the studio version of the song. She will try to claim a high placement in the rankings of the jury voting in this year’s contest! In the beginning I didn’t quite like “Stay“, I can now say that I love her vocals on this track!

Malta – The Busker

They were not bad, not at all sounding bad live, but were they as good as it needs to be to qualify to the final show of Eurovision Song Contest? Song-wise I think not.

Moldova – Pasha Parfeni

Despite the technical issues with his Madrid performance, Pasha, the Moldovan 2012 representative and returning artist of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, managed to pull off his performance. Great vocals and energy overall!

Netherlands – Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper

It’s really sad to see my 2nd place to perform questionably in their own country’s party concert. Their vocals sound a bit off at times and as a duo their vocals don’t seem to connect on their live performance. I hope they fix it till their semi-final, I don’t want to see them become the shocking non-qualifier of the year.

Norway – Alessandra

Very much improved vocally, Alessandra, gets carried away by the strength of her song and her fans are absolutely loving it! The whistle note was so-so. She will improve, I am sure!

Romania – Theodor Andrei

Theodor has a nice voice, but this song is totally “Off and On” so one would either like it or not. I don’t.

San Marino – Piqued Jacks

Their are very very good vocally. Their lead vocalist sounds like Klaus Meine, frontman of Scorpions band. Their song is not at all bad after all.

Slovenia – Joker Out

I simply love this band and this song! One of my favourites! I love how they sound in each and every appearance they make before the contest. I hope they continue delivering up until the Eurovision finals!

Spain – Blanca Paloma

A blend of flamenco and modern sounds, bringing Spanish tradition to 2023. Her vocals are absolutely amazing. I just don’t get the hype around this entry, it is a great entry for Spain, but definitely not a top 3 entry as many fans are claiming over at social media!

Sweden – Loreen

Her vocals are out of this world! Another amazing performance of the former Eurovision 2012 winner and potential 2023 winner! And for those that claim that she sings with the assistance of an Auto-Tune device, I can assure you that even when she rehearsed in the corridors of Malmö Arena or Friends Arena during the Melodifestivalen season, she sounded exactly the same, or even better than the studio version! My winner for sure!

I absolutely love his Amsterdam (and every single one of his) live performance! I can’t wait to see this song complete and staged and Remo joined by his four dancers! I think he will qualify! But let’s wait and see!

Netherlands: Eurovision in Concert 2023 takes place tonight in Amsterdam!

Eurovision in Concert 2023 takes place in The Netherlands tonight , with 29 of this year’s entrants performing live.

Estonia: Alika with “Bridges” in Eurovision 2023!

After two Semi-Finals and a Grand Final, Eesti Laul 2023, the selection process for the next Estonian entry in the Eurovision Song Contest, has just finished.

The big winner of the evening was Alika with the song “Bridges” , who will travel with the Estonian flag to Liverpool.

The Participants:
The presenters of the evening were Grete Kuld and Tõnis Niinemets, and the evening took place at Saku Suurhall in Tallinn.

In today’s Grand Final, twelve songs competed to represent Estonia in Liverpool.

  3. JANEK – “House of Glass”
  4. Elysa – “Bad Philosophy”
  5. m els – “So Good At What You Do”
  6. Bedwetters – “Monsters”

The Show:

  1. Meelik – “Tuju”

Meelik opened the final of Eesti Laul 2023. They are using a black and white effect for their performance until the third chorus. They have a well thought-out performance.

2. Inger – “Awaiting You”

Second on stage is Inger. He is on a round platform, sitting on a chair. He is very good on TV, but has slight vocal difficulties.

      3. JANEK – “House of Glass”

Janek will follow up Inger with a powerful ballad. His performance for the grand-final is simplistic unlike his semi-final one. There are multiple videos during his performance that show him in a room full of confetti. 

      4. Elysa – “Bad Philosophy”

Elysa was one of the two wildcards. She is accompanied by three dancers that were dressed in red and black. She will not be among the strong vocalists tonight.

5. m els – “So Good At What You Do”

The red colour continues to prevail in m els’ performance. She starts her performance from the front of the stage and ends up on a high platform. She’s a present performer and a good vocalist.

6. Bedwetters – “Monsters”

The first rock song of the final. The Bedwetters have an eccentric performance reminiscent of Winny Puhh. The crowd was going crazy.

7. Andreas – “Why Do You Love Me”

After Bedwetters’s bombastic performance, Andreas sings an ethereal ballad accompanied by a female dancer. Low lighting prevails. Not many changes from his semi-final performance.

8. Alika – “Bridges”

Alika is accompanied by a piano that has the illusion of being played on it’s own. She’s dressed in white. One of the best vocalists from this Eurovision season.

9. Anett x Fredi – “You Need to Move On”

Anett x Fredi are next, an atmospheric and well-staged performance that will get highly appreciated by the jurors.

10. OLLIE – “Venom”

The second rock entry of the night. The performance is very professional. Pink lighting predominates, and Ollie’s vocals are very good.

11. MIA – “Üks samm korraga”

Mia follows Ollie’s energetic performance. She sings in Estonian while wearing a silver jumpsuit. She is accompanied by a pianist and a dancing couple.

12. Sissi – “Lighthouse”

Sissi will close Eesti Laul 2023. She is dressed in white for her Eesti Laul performance. Manages to stand out on her own and gave Alika a run for her money.

The Results:

The winner will be selected over two rounds of voting. In the first round, an international jury (50%) and public televote (50%) will determine the top three entries to proceed to the superfinal. The second round will be fully determined by the public televote.

The jury panel that will vote in the first round of the final consists of Alma (Finnish musician), Birgit Simal (Belgian TV producer), Kat Reinhert (Berklee College of Music professor), Lucas Gullbing (Swedish music producer), Deban Aderemi (British journalist, editor at Wiwibloggs), Matther Tryba (American music producer), Anja Roglić (Serbian TV producer, music editor at RTS), Joe Bennett (American musicologist), Tomi Saarinen (CEO of Live Nation Finland) and Yves Shifferele (Swiss Eurovision Head of Delegation).

Bedwetters – Big changes to our show in the Final! | Exclusive Interview

Right after their qualification to the final of Eesti Laul, the Estonian national final for Eurovision, Rauno Kutti of the Bedwetters gave an exclusive interview to EurovisionFun‘s Paschalis.

Bedwetters are an estonian band that will try to represent Estonia at Eurovision 2023 with their song “Monsters“.

Some things about the band

We started with the band when we were 15 or something. We were just some rock and roll emo punk rock guys who wanted to do shows. Within a few years the band grew very popular and we entered some local competitions. MTV Estonia saw us performing and winning some local awards and thought that this band was going to be big. Later on we won the MTV Award and things blew up for us. It was a very interesting time. We made an album in Sweden. We kind of broke up as we separted as we grew older, and each one of us proceeded. Joosep, our singer is a very well known producer in electronic music. Everyone of us has their family and kids, but we realized that this creative side of our life was missing. We then joined together and we have recorded our new album.

Eesti Laul and Eurovision was a nice way to reintroduce ourselves. Soon enough we will have a few songs coming out. It’s really nice to see that people like our new music. It’s pretty exciting.

Eesti Laul is the biggest competition in Estonia and has a very large media attention. We had the opportunity to promote our new album and music.

About the song “Monsters”

Monsters has been ready for almost half a year now. We thought that Eesti Laul was a great platform for this song. We knew that the song would work in any other genre, so it was the right song to enter the competition. We thought on how to make it exciting for everyone. We created something different, but that people would be able to recognize.

The lyrics are not about a dog and its owner. Everyone has some sides that we want to hide, there are monsters inside every one of us. Sometimes we want to hide them away, but sometimes they come out and cause whatever the monsters are doing. It’s about dark feelings in ourselves that we want to hide away.

About their appearance

The name of the song is a playful way to go. Bedwetters has never been a costume band, we dress up differently according to the mood. We went to do something crazy to spark the interest of people. We used ourselves as much as possible to play around with people’s reactions. The idea came from the song itself. We got eight of the best makeup artists to work with us. It was three hours of makeup for each person! We had to wear these masks for many hours.

The show will not be the same in the final! We are going to have a meeting with our producers and we have some more ideas to put on stage. Some of our original ideas couldn’t make it, but hopefully we can bring them up for the final.

Other Eesti Laul songs that they liked

Ollie’s song is really strong and we’ve been monitoring what’s going on in the media. Ollie’s song and our song are trending in the viral and daily top 50 songs. Ollie is definitely a very good contender. We also liked the song of Kaw. In the second semi final there were lots of ballads. We are emphasizing the show side. We also really like Meelik and have a good time in the backstage. It’s a treat for us.

Estonian Eurovision entries from the past that they liked

Obviously Tanel Padar & Dave Benton, which was a huge hit by winning the contest. There’s always a bit of talk about Leto Svet. I don’t know how that happened, but it did. I think the reason is because the guys are known for decades in Estonia. I also remember Ines with a really nice song. Ivo Linna & Maarja-Liis with Kaelakee hääl is also legendary and everybody knows it.

Other Eurovision entries from the past that they liked

I really love Ukraine’s song from last year. I like to compare ourselves with them. I love the national heritage behind the music, which is great. I also remember Germany, a girl who was singing a country tune. I can also remember Netta from recent times, who was very creative with her lyrics and she was spot-on. She was loved and hated at the same time, but I think she was amazing.

Eurovision is a huge thing in Estonia. My wife and I were in France some years ago when Eurovision was going on and there weren’t any cafes or restaurants that showed it. My family and I have always watched Eesti Laul and Eurovision and it’s very tied to the Estonian tradition.

Estonia: The running order of Eesti Laul’s 2023 final!

A few moments ago, Estonia’s broadcaster, ERR, announced the running order for the final of Eesti Laul 2023!

Meelik with “Tuju” will open the grand final while Sissi will close the night with “Lighthouse“.

The running order of the final is as follows:

  1. Meelik- “Tuju”
  2. Inger – “Awaiting You”
  3. JANEK – “House of Glass”
  4. Elysa – “Bad Philosophy”
  5. m els – “So Good At What You Do”
  6. Bedwetters – “Monsters”
  7. Andreas – “Why Do You Love Me”
  8. Alika – “Bridges”
  9. Anett x Fredi – “You Need to Move On”
  10. OLLIE – “Venom”
  11. MIA – “Üks samm korraga”
  12. Sissi – “Lighthouse”

During the final of Eesti Laul 2023, several guest artists will perform alongside the finalists. The organisers have already announced that Karl-Erik Taukar, 2 Quick Start and last year’s winner, Stefan, will perform on stage.

The Grand Final of Eesti Laul 2023 will take place on 11 February at the Tondiraba Ice Hall in Tallinn with Tõnis Niinemets and Grete Kuld as hosts. There will be two rounds of voting. The first round will determine the entries that will qualify for the Super Final, which will be determined by 50% of the jury and 50% of the TV vote. There, the Estonian representative will be selected exclusively through the televote.

Last year’s winner of Eesti Laul was Stefan Airapetjan with the song “Hope” who came 13th in the final with 141 points.
