Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal has the most views on TikTok?

Two days ago, the first rehearsals for all 37 entries officially concluded, and today the second rehearsals are expected to be completed, with the Big 5 and the host country Sweden taking the stage at the Malmö Arena for the second time! This means that we are getting closer to the Eurovision week, with the Dress and Jury Rehearsals for the first semi-final starting on Monday.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. However, the TikTok algorithm is usually able to detect the song used in the video, assign it to the correct track, and then include it in the total number of videos where that sound has been used. Based on this capability, the most popular songs before rehearsals were from the Netherlands and Italy. Will they receive the same promotion as before?

The ranking with all the entries (in brackets will be the day of the rehearsal) based on the increasing number of views after one week from the start of the first rehearsals on TikTok is as follows:

  1. Netherlands: Joost (fourth day) – Europapa – 3.2 milion views
  2. Greece: Marina Satti (third day) – ZARI – 2.7 million views
  3. Poland: LUNA (first day)– The Tower –1.5 million views
  4. Switzerland: Nemo (third day) – The Code – 1.2 million views

Based on the views from the first semi-final, the following countries will qualify (in ascending order): Poland, Serbia, Ukraine, Croatia, Ireland, Azerbaijan, Cyprus (seventh), Lithuania, Luxembourg, and Australia.

Similarly, from the second semi-final, the following countries will qualify: Netherlands, Greece, Switzerland, Georgia, Israel, Belgium, Armenia, Albania, Latvia, and Austria.

TikTok has played a significant role in the success of Eurovision songs in recent years. For example, Duncan Laurence’s winning entry “Arcade” became a global hit a year after winning the competition when it was used in over a million videos on TikTok. One of the earliest TikTok successes from Eurovision was Getter Jaani’s “Rockefeller Street”, which went viral on the platform in 2018 and has since been used in over two million videos. Let’s not forget that Armenia’s entry in 2022 by Rosa Linn with “Snap” gained over a billion views on the platform. Finally, Norway’s entry last year gained significant worldwide publicity months before the competition week, where it secured fifth place.

Today, Luna, the polish representative in Eurovision 2024, stepped on the stage of Malmö Arena for her second technical rehearsal.

Following the conclusion of Luna’s rehearsal, TVP, the Polish participating broadcaster, shared a video on its social media, displaying Luna’s rehearsal as it will be seen on TV.

 

As the technical rehearsals are over for the Polish delegation, Luna will take the Malmö Arena stage again on Monday for her dress rehearsals upon the First Semi-Final on May 7.

The second rehearsals of Eurovision 2024 have started! The sixth artist to set foot on the Eurovision stage of Malmö Arena for today is LUNA from Poland, with “The Tower“.

Who is Luna?

Aleksandra Katarzyna “Ola” Wielgomas known by her stage name as LUNA was born on 28 August 1999 in the capital of Poland, Warzaw. LUNA is a Polish singer and songwriter. She is the daughter of a famous polish entrepreneur named Andrzej Wielgomas and she studied at the “Tadeusz Baird” National Music School in Grodzisk Mazowiecki, taking violin classes. From 2015 to 2018, she attended course in legal and political sciences. In 2018, she began studying at the University of Warsaw.

“The Tower” is about a journey to self-realization and self-actualization from the negativity humanity faces. The song uses the metaphor of a tower of negativity and limited potential, urging the listener to topple the tower with strength.

The Rehearsal

As we saw in the firs rehearsal, at the begining of her performance, LUNA appeares between two huge neon chess rooks that roll across the stage. Luna’s outfit consists of a shiny white PVC-esque red cape with huge pointy shoulders. During her performance, the cape is removed to reveal a long white dress with red horns.

LUNA is accompanied by three faceless dancers dressed in black, white and red respectively. There is a moment on the song that the singer lies on the LED floor and appears to ride a red horse using sci-fi technique to impress the audience. Pyro was, once more, spotted in the last run through the final chorus.

Eurovision 2024: Which rehearsal had the most views on the first day?

Yesterday, the big moment we’ve all been waiting for has arrived! Rehearsals began with the first seven countries of the first semi-final taking the stage.

However, as we know on TikTok, all the first rehearsals are uploaded. Apart from their performances, we’ll also get a sneak peek backstage before they take the stage for the first time in a video of about one minute.

One of the many features of TikTok is the ability to add songs to each user’s video creation. Based on this capability, the most popular songs before rehearsals were from the Netherlands and Italy. Will they receive the same promotion as before?

In less than 24 hours (April 28, 2024, time 17:20 CET), since the first clip from the rehearsals was uploaded, we have a indicative sample of which rehearsal was favored by the audience (here it should be noted that the videos were uploaded one after the other with a one and a half hour interval and there was a significant delay in their publication).

The rehearsals that had the most views are:

  1. Poland: LUNA – The Tower – 711.3 thousand views
  2. Ukraine: alyona alyona & Jerry Heil – Teressa & Maria – 608.1 thousand views
  3. Serbia: Teya Dora – Ramonda – 606.7 thousand views
  4. Croatia: Baby Lasagna – Rim Tim Tagi Dim – 484.7 thousand views
  5. Ireland: Bambie Thug – Doomsday Blue – 208.7 thousand views
  6. Cyprus: Silia Kapsis – Liar -195.8 thousand views
  7. Lithiania: Silvester Belt – Luktelk – 193 thousand views

With this small sample, we can infer that:

  • Poland’s performance possibly appealed to fans, with the caveat that the stage presence was a surprise – either positively or negatively.
  • The rehearsals of Ukraine and Serbia also gained huge popularity, surpassing the following four positions in views, demonstrating their strength in the semifinal.
  • Croatia, as one of the major favorites of the competition, did not gather particularly high views, although fans and betting companies have placed it at the top for victory, resulting in the stage presence not making enough of an impression.
  • Similarly, Lithuania did not impress fans at all, as it maintained the same appearance as its national final.

Norway: Poland Wins Adresse Malmø Show Two!

NRK broadcasts Adresse Malmø, a special show dedicated to the Eurovision Song Contest. Each week approximately eight songs will be reviewed with the judges rating the songs from one to twelve points.

Performer Staysman ansd Einar Tørnquist joined the show as guests for the second episode on the main jury. The People’s Jury features Hansi Tryggvasson (42) from Bærum/Iceland, Simen Formo Hay (31) from Oslo and Synne Eikenes Sørensen (17) from Larvik.

Luna from Poland has won the second episode of the Norwegian preview show for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

The results were as follows:

  1. Poland – Luna – “The Tower” – 80 points (6+12+12+12+6+10+12+10)
  2. Austria – Kaleen – “We Will Rave” – 56 points (10+1+12+8+8+2+10+5)
  3. Germany – Isaak – “Always on the Run” – 55 points (4+6+8+10+6+10+5+7)
  4. Estonia – 5miinust & Puuluup – “(Nendest) narkootikumidest ei tea me (küll) midagi” – 53 points – 10+3+2+5+12+12+2+7

Show Three – Friday 19 April
Presenter Thomas Numme and comedian and radio personality Tara Lina Shahin are part of the main jury for the third episode. The fan jury includes Drian Vad Flaaten (from Tønsberg, Norway), Victoria Haugan Saur (from Sunndal, Norway) and Alex Snyder from Vikersund/USA and reveal their score. Among the countries to be rated by the juries are France, Denmark and Ireland.

Show Four – Friday 5th April
Music journalist Sandeep Singh and host of Eurovision 2010 and Eurovision Young Dancers 2011 Erik Solbakken are part of the judging panel. Eva Nodeland (from Elverum, Norway), Øystein Antonsen (from Arendal, Norway) and Omid Rashidi (from Visby, Norway) are part of the fan jury. Among the countries to be rated by the juries are Switzerland, Finland and Italy.

Show Five – Friday 3rd May
In the last episode of Adresse Malmø we will see Are Kalvø and Ingebjørg Bratland join the main jury. The fan jury consists of Marko Stojiljkovic (from Serbia), Jon Arne Ravndal (from Oslo) and Anna Lycke (from Nannestad/Sweden). Among the countries to be rated by the judging panels are Croatia, Greece and Sweden.

Poland: Luna’s team for Eurovision 2024 has been revealed!

Luna has uploaded a post on her personal Instagram account revealing her Eurovision team for Malmo!

More specific, Jerry Reeve will be the creative director of her performance and together with Lukas McFarlane and Kamila Zalewska will create her choreography on stage. All three of them have been working in London and have been responsible for multiple acts and TV shows.

Poland 2024: These are the detailed national selection results

Luna won the Polish internal selection with her song “The Tower”.  She got the most points from the jury panel that chose the Polish representative with a difference of only one point over the second place.  However, we did not know until now the full results of this selection.

TVP has released the detailed results of the Polish selection to respond to the growing speculations around the results.  Following the first publication, the broadcaster removed the initial publication and later corrected it.  According to the rules of the selection each jury awarded points from 1 to 10 to their favorite entries

Poland: Luna was not TVP’s first choice?

Yesterday, TVP revealed that the winner of the Polish internal preselection was Luna with her song “Tower“. Luna finished in the first place with a total of 34 points, while Justyna Steczkowska and Kayah and Dagadana on the second and third place respectively.

However, some internal sources from TVP claim that Luna was not the jury’s first pick and the voting had to be repeated.

Problem with the song selected originally?

According to the aforementioned sources, Kayah and Dagadana won the original jury vote. However, according to a pre-selection juror, some problems with the song prompted TVP to repeat the voting process.

The first issue was related to Eurovision’s regulation having a maximum number of six people on stage. Because the song involved more than six artists, changes would be required to meet Eurovision standards, as well as the use of a shortened version of the song. Second, there was a chance that the song would not meet the contest’s regulations, but no further information was provided on this matter.

Furthermore, the bid would serve as the soundtrack to a Polish film, which raised concerns for TVP, despite the fact that the record label reported no issues.

As a result, TVP decided to hold another round of voting. Luna finished second in the original vote.

Was there actually a problem?

Both the musicians and the record label are unaware of all of this. They all claim that they were not informed of any problems with their bid and were only aware that they finished third.

Because the song’s composers were not informed of any issues by TVP, it is unclear whether there were legitimate legal reasons for repeating the voting process or if it was solely due to TVP.

Anyway, Luna was TVP’s final choice for Eurovision 2024 with her entry “Tower“. Poland will perform on the first half of the first semi-final on May 7.

Poland: Luna will represent the country in Malmö with her song “Tower”!

We finally have an announcement. Luna is the winner of TVP’s internal selection for Eurovision 2024 and will therefore represent Poland in Malmö with her song “Tower“.

Back in early January, Luna shared via her Instagram account that she has a new song coming, which she would submit to the Polish preselection in Eurovision 2024. “Tower“, Luna’s bid for Eurovision 2024 was released on January 24, quickly dominating the “New Music Friday” playlist on Spotify in eighteen different countries.

There was an extensive speculation for the past week, claiming that Luna was the winner of the Polish internal pre-selection, defeating the fan-favorite Justyna Steczkowska. It appears that the rumors are eventually true and Luna will fly the Polish flag in Malmö.

The announcement took place this morning, while the Polish entry was uploaded on the official Eurovision YouTube channel.

How was Luna selected?

The selection process involved a panel that evaluated the songs on the basis of specific criteria.

A five-person jury evaluated each entry, awarding points on a scale of 1 to 10 based on quality. The entry with the highest marks secured the coveted place of Poland’s representative at Eurovision 2024.

Many Polish artists had expressed their interest in representing the country in Malmö publicly, with the list containing more than fifty artists.

Just a point ahead of the second place!

Following the afore-mentioned selection process, TVP’s expert committee consisted of five members:

  • Łukasz Pieter
  • Michał Hanczak
  • Konrad Szczęsny
  • Piotr Klatt
  • Kasia Moś

Luna emerged as the winner of the internal pre-selection, receiving a total of 34 points, with a margin of a single point from the second place. Justyna Steczkowska finished second with her song “WITCH-ER Tarohoro”, receiving 33 points from the jury. Meanwhile, on the third place there was a tie between Kayah and Dagadana with “Jesień – Tańcuj” and Marcin Maciejczak with “Midnight Dreamer”.

Who is Luna?

23-year-old Luna is considered as one of the country’s rising stars in the pop music scene. She uses Luna as her stage name, because she has observed moon’s influence in her life. Luna means moon in latin. Luna is her alter ego, full of mystery and energy.
