Netherlands: Jacqueline Govaert and Jaap Reesema are the new members of the selection comitee for Eurovision 2024!

After the addition of Jacqueline Govaert and Jaap Reesema, the jury of AVROTROS for Eurovision 2024 is now complete. Together with the president Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen as well as Carolien Borgers, Hila Noorzai, Cornald Maas and Sander Lantinga, they will choose the artist and the song that will represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Sweden!

Singer-songwriters Jacqueline Govaert and Jaap Reesema bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the panel. Both are in contact with various Dutch artists and producers, so that the country’s music industry can be properly represented. Both artists have delivered several hits, written and produced many songs for other artists, and are completely up-to-date on what’s happening in the global music industry.

The head of delegation, Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen, said that:

“Through our conversations, I know that Jacqueline and Jaap always enjoy following the Eurovision Song Contest and are highly motivated to recognize that one rock-solid song that can conquer all of Europe and the rest of the world. Many unknown and well-known artists have already registered. Now that the selection committee is complete, I am even more looking forward to the final choice that we will make together.”

Jacqueline Govaert said after being added to the jury panel:

“Hearing a good song sung well for the first time has something magical about it. I am really looking forward to listening to the submissions together with the other committee members and finding the perfect song!”

In the end, Jaap Reesema, stated:

“I really like the opportunity to contribute to the creation of great international success for a Dutch product. Watch the winning song ‘Arcade’ by Duncan Laurence. It now has more than 1 billion Spotify streams, unprecedented! The Eurovision Song Contest can do that for a song and for an artist. I am convinced that we have enough talented, creative people in the Netherlands to take the win again and I will dedicate myself 100% to make that happen! ”

Artists, composers, lyricists, producers and record labels can still register until Saturday 30 September. The aim is to make the final choice by mid-December at the latest.

Netherlands: Is Douwe Bob coming back for Eurovision 2024?

The first non-qualification in Eurovision for the Netherlands after six consecutive qualifications and even one win, caused many internal changes in the Dutch delegation. AVROTROS appointed a new head of delegation and there will be changes in the internal selection to come.

The Dutch delegation ruled out a massive change in the selection process and the conduction of a national final right from the start, due to low interest from the Dutch music industry. Instead, and according to the new head of delegation, Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen, the changes that will be made to the existing system in order to ensure transparency, will include live performances of the candidates and people outside of AVROTROS in the jury.

In this open internal selection, Douwe Bob, Dutch representative in Eurovision 2016, might want to compete. As his manager stated in Shownieuws, the singer wants to compete in the internal selection, saying that:

“Douwe Bob would like to compete again in Eurovision. Even though we do not have any specific song, we hope to submit one”

Douwe Bob represented the Netherlands in Eurovision 2016 in Stockholm, with his song “Slow Down” ending up in 11th place. He is not the only artist that want to compete in Eurovision 2024. Both Bizzey & Kraantje Pappie as a duet, as well as De Bankzitters want to submit songs.

Netherlands: Listen to the runner-up song of the Dutch internal selection! | EXCLUSIVE

Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper, were the representatives of the Netherlands in this year’s Eurovision, with their song “Buring Daylight”, composed alongside the country’s last winner, Duncan Laurence. Eurovisionfun is here to present to you, the song that almost represented the country in Eurovision 2023, namely, the runner-up of the internal selection, conducted once again by the Dutch public broadcaster.

According to our exclusive information, Merol, with her song “Applaus”, came second in the selection process. Merol is widely known in the Netherlands and is a synth pop artist, while her songs are aiming on the millenials, talking about their life, drugs and sex.

You can listen to her song that almost set a foot on the 67th Eurovision Song Contest’s stage, below:

The Netherlands, didn’t manage to qualify to the Grand Final, for the first time after six years, getting only 7 points and 13th place in the semi-final.

Netherlands: Watch Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper’s first live performance of “Burning Daylight”!

Earlier today, we had the chance to listen to the two Dutch representatives Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper, performing their song “Buring Daylight” live, through their official TikTok accounts!

In the first video, we can listen to the two young singers performing the chorus of their song, while in the second one, we can see Mia Nicolai performing her solo verse:

Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper with their song “Burning Daylight” hope to continue the country’s qualification streak and the positive results of recent years! As of now, the Netherlands is placed 10th in the odds for qualifying to the final.

The Netherlands is competing in number 14 of the running order of the First Semi-Final of Eurovision 2023, in May 9, 2023.

Netherlands: Watch a teaser of the music video of “Burning Daylight” by Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper!

Just a few hours remaining, until the releasement of the Dutch song for Eurovision 2023. “Burning Daylight” is the title of the song with which Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper will travel to Liverpool!

We remind you that the song was composed by Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper themselves, as well as the Dutch winner of Eurovision 20219, Duncan Laurence, alongside Jordan Garfield and LUKAZ.

A few hours ago, a little teaser of the music video was published.

You can watch it below:

The music video will be released tomorow on 19:15 CET, on NPO 1 and the official Eurovision Song Contest YouTube channel.

But before we listen to “Burning Daylight”, let’s remember one of the most liked Dutch entries by the fans of the contest for one last time. S10 represented the Netherlands in Eurovision 2022 with her song “De Diepte”, performed entirely in Dutch. She ended up in 11th place of the Grand Final but she still remains one of the fan-favourites. Enjoy:

Eurovisionfun will be at Het Grote Songfestivalfeest in Amsterdam!

Every eurofan’s heart will beat in the rhythm of Amsterdam, this Thursday, November 17, as the great concert Het Grote Songfestivalfeest, will take place, with around 30 eurostars, taking part. Eurovisionfun will of course be there at the Ziggo Dome to offer exclusive content with videos of interviews and the performances of our favourite artists.

Het Grote Songfestivalfeest was a concert that took place in 2019, in order to promote Eurovision 2020 planned to take place in the Netherlands. After two years without it and one cancellation in 2021 due to the COVID-19 measurments in the Netherlands, the concert is back and wants to offer a unique show.

There will be numerous winners and past participants of the contest, including Loreen (Sweden 2012), Alexander Rybak (Norway 2009), Go_A (Ukraine 2021), Måns Zelmerlöw (Swede 2015), Conchita Wurst (Austria 2014) and Duncan Laurence (Netherlands 2019).

Eurovisionfun couldn’t miss this great music festival. With Spyros Koronakis as an accredited journalist, you’ll have the chance to watch the performances and interviews on our YouTube channel.

Netherlands: Eurovision in Concert 2023 will take place on April 15!

As reported by the Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, one of the biggest Eurovision pre-parties, Eurovision in Concert will return for the thirteenth time on April 15, 2023. The pre-sale of tickets for the big concert, which as in previous years will be held at AFAS Amsterdam, will start on Friday 14 October.

The line up of participating singers will be announced in early 2023, when we will know more of the Eurovision 2023 contestants. As usual, many artists of the upcoming competition in Liverpool are expected to take part in the big event in Amsterdam, which will presented by Dutch Eurovision commentator Cornald Maas.

Eurovision in Concert is one of the biggest and most popular Eurovision promo parties and takes place every year in Amsterdam in the lead up to the contest. The show started in 2009 and has grown into a hugely popular event among Eurovision fans and artists. At Eurovision in Concert 2022, 26 of the 40 competing artists of Eurovision 2022 presented their songs. The last time Greece participated in Eurovision in Concert was in 2019 with Katerine Duska and Better Love.

Junior Eurovision 2022: 16 countries will take part in the contest in Yerevan!

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) alongside the Armenian public broadcaster (AMPTV), announced that 16 countries are going to take part in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022, which is scheduled to take place in Yerevan, on Sunday, December 11.

The 16 countries that will travel to Yerevan in December are:

  • 🇫🇷 France (France TV)

  • 🇮🇪 Ireland (TG4)
  • 🇮🇹 Italy (Rai)
  • 🇰🇿 Kazakhstan (Khabar Agency)
  • 🇲🇹 Malta (PBS)
  • 🇳🇱 Netherlands (AVROTROS)
  • 🇲🇰 North Macedonia (MKRTV)
  • 🇵🇱 Poland (TVP)
  • 🇵🇹 Portugal (RTP)
  • 🇷🇸 Serbia (RTS)
  • 🇪🇸 Spain (TVE)
  • 🇺🇦 Ukraine (UA:PBC)
  • 🇬🇧 United Kingdom (BBC)

The number of countries that will take part in this year’s contest is reduced, compared to last year, since Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Germany and Russia will not return to the contest, while the United Kingdom returns after a 16 years of absence.

What is more, alongside the final list of competitions, the Armenian public broadcaster announced the slogan of this year’s contest which is: “Spin the Magic”.

Martin Österdahl, Executive Supervisor for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, is excited about the show’s return:

“We’re delighted to be welcoming talented young artists from 16 countries this year to Yerevan for the 20th Junior Eurovision Song Contest. It’s exciting to be returning to the Armenian capital for the first time in over a decade to “Spin The Magic” on this special anniversary – and welcoming back the United Kingdom to the competition, our host country for Eurovision 2023. There’s so much energy, passion and creativity from our colleagues at AMPTV and we can’t wait to see a spectacular show in December.”

Junior Eurovision 2022: Listen the Netherlands’ song for the contest!

The second country to choose their representative for Junior Eurovision 2022, is the Netherlands, whose national final, Junior Songfestival 2022, came to an end and the winner was Luna.

The national final took place in the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam, which has hosted Junior Eurovision 2007 and Eurovision 2021 in the past. The hosts were two past representatives of the Netherlands in Junior Eurovision, Matheu and Stefania who aslo represented Greece in Eurovision 2021 bringing the country back to the top ten after years.

The winner was chosen from a combination of 33% public vote, 33% jury vote and 33% children jury vote. Among the juries, were Chantal Janzen, host of Eurovsion 2021 and Ayana, representative of the Netherlands in Junior Eurovision 2021 in Paris.

The results are as follows (children jury + jury vote + public vote):

  • Infinity – “Never Ever” 24 points (8+8+8) 4th Place
  • MixedUp – “It Doesn’t Matter” 30 points  (10+10+10) 2nd Place
  • High5 – “Because I Know” 27 points (9+9+9) 3rd Place
  • Luna – “La festa” (The party) 36 points (12+12+12) 1st Place

The combined results were unanimous and the winner of the national final was Luna with the song “La Festa” and thus, she is going to represent the Netherlands in Junior Eurovision 2022, scheduled to take place this December in Armenia! The song is in Dutch, English and some parts in Italian.

Netherlands: Selection committee revealed for Eurovision 2023!

Two new members are joining the committee that will determine the Dutch participation in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 . AVROTROS will again internally select the singer and song for the competition. Since 2014, a committee has been formed to select the participant.

DJ and music expert Carolien Borgers and Eurovision expert Hila Noorzai participate in the committee this year . Carolien and Hila replace Coen Swijnenberg and Joyce Hoedelmans who have been on the committee for the past three years. The committee members remain unchanged and are:

  • Eric van Stade – Director General AVROTROS
  • Cornald Maas – Eurovision commentator and expert
  • Jan Smit – Commentator and presenter
  • Sander Lantinga – Radio DJ

General Director of AVROTROS Eric van Stade commented:

That young talented artists have just as much chance of being selected as an established name is apparent from the artists who have performed on the largest music stage in Europe on behalf of the Netherlands in recent years. The committee really selects on the basis of the best and most suitable song and I am happy that Carolien and Hila are supporting us in this difficult choice.

AVROTROS  is currently seeking the country’s participation in Eurovision 2023, requesting :

An entry with preferably a contemporary, but in any case authentic sound. A song that is able to survive in a competition. By a Dutch artist who can and wants to present a personal song in a distinctive way, in any genre, and if possible a personal story.

The rules that submissions must meet are:

  • The song is convincingly distinctive and meets the above description.
  • A maximum of three songs can be submitted.
  • The song cannot have been commercially released before 1 September 2022.
  • The song cannot exceed three minutes in length.

S10 represented the Netherlands at Eurovision 2022 with “De diepte” , the first Dutch song in the contest since 2010. They finished  11th  in the Grand Final with 171 points.
