Greece: The viewership rate for the Second Semi-Final!

The viewership for the Second Semi-Final were increased compared to the First Semi-Final despite the disqualification of Greece in the contest, viewers chose to watch yestarday’s show.

More specifically, the measurement comapny Nielsen about the TV ratings announced that the Second Semi-Final had a 16.6% of audience share overall, with a maximum quarter of the results at 23.4%. The contest was mostly viewed by the young audience with a 20,6% share and at the last quarter of the show, when the results were announced, were at 26.9% viewer share.

The corresponding percentages last year were considerably lower, with the Greek participation and Amanda Tenfjord qualifying for the Grand Final. This happened because the Greek participation this year got a lot of publicity, along with critisism and negative comments.

As a result, the interest for the Greek viewers’ in the Eurovision Song Contest will wane as Victor Vernicos failed to qualify for the final.

Victor Vernicos: “You will see a few new things from me, on my Second Semi-Final performance!” | Exclusive Interview

Victor Vernicos, the Greek representative of Eurovision 2023 spoke exclusively at Eurovisionfun and Apostolis Matamis, all the way from LiverpoolUK in the heart of this year’s contest!

The interview took place at Eurovillage, right after his performance on stage and he was really enthusiastic about this:

I absolutely loved it! I am ready for my semi final, everyday I’m loving the positive vibes of this city, the people are wonderful!

We asked him if he feels more comfortable performing and playing with his guitar at the same time.

The guitar is part of my body by now, but I am okay to perform without it!

It is a unique experience for someone to be able to represent ones country, especially if you’re a 16-year-old boy as Victor is. But what was the highlight of his experience?

Last night at Euroclub the energy was amazing while I was performing, now my cousins from Denmark also arrived in Liverpool to watch me on my semi final and that made me very happy!

On his socials, he had joked about him bringing the sun wherever he goes. On the day of the interview he was being dead serious about this:

“It’s a fact that one time that we went to Denmark with my mother it was the best summer in 40 years, and then best winter in 25 years! My mother, my family, me and the Greek delegation, we all bring the sun!”

On the negative comments about his participation, he mentioned that he pays no attention to anything like that and he added:

“I mostly give out to my fans, I upload stuff on my socials, but I don’t take in any negative energy or bad comments on me or my performance. I have found my inner balance!”

When we mentioned that the press appreciates his song a lot, he was really grateful for that and he also responded on the comments of British press that his accent is very British:

“I used to go to a British school, then American, I also have the Danish genes from my dad. That’s why I think that my accent is a mix of American, British and Danish!”

Is Victor ready to perform Thursday night on the second semi-final show? He comments:

“I’m ready, I just need to rest a bit, because I sing a lot and I go to the parties that all delegations attend.”

When we asked him if his team and himself intend to make any changes on the staging or his performance he said:

“You will see a few new things from me, it’s gonna be a surprise for you all!”

Finally, Victor has a message for all the readers of Eurovisionfun:

“I love you! We are ready! We need your support! All I need is your positive energy, if I got this, then it will reflect in the results!”

Finally you can watch his Eurovillage performance of his entry “What they say” below:

Eurovision 2023: Greece’s Second Rehearsal!

Closing up the first half of the second Semi-Final is GreeceVictor Vernicos with his songWhat They Say” is ready for his second rehearsal on the stage of M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool!

Who is Victor Vernicos?

Victor Vernicos is the youngest artist participating in Eurovision 2023 and in fact the youngest Greek participant ever! Victor might be young but he’s got big dreams! Victor has been involved in music since he was 4 years old. He has taken vocal and guitar lessons, while he has also attended music technology seminars. In 2021 he released his first song in which he wrote music, lyrics but also produced it himself. He is now representing Greece in Eurovision Song Contest 2023 with a song that he wrote himself when he was 14 years old.

The rehearsal

Unfortunately this year, accredited journalists don’t get the chance to watch the first and second rehearsals, so we only get the information and content that the organizers officially release to the public.

Sarah Louise Bennett /EBU

The youngest participant of this year’s eurovision takes the stage… and he’s not nervous at all. He’s giving this both vocal power and some great on-stage energy, backed up by multiple giant Victors on the LED wall. He’s wearing shorts to remind us how is the summer in Greece and a jacket in chaki colours.

CHLOE HASHEMI / EBU

His signature dance move is an infectious bounce that will have the arena jumping next Thursday – Ed Sheeran is one of his musical influences, and you can definitely feel the Sheeran vibe in What They Say. A confident and uplifting performance, and the Greek delegation should be very happy with that. In the final runthrough for Greece, we’ve got the added bonus of some low smoke.

Greece: “There are two changes we want to make”!

Greek representative Victor Vernicos spoke to the presenters of MEGA show Πάμε Δανάη via skype from Liverpool this morning. Victor was very satisfied and optimistic after the first rehearsal, while he revealed that the Greek delegation wants to make two changes to his appearance.

I feel great, I’m not too stressed. We are doing great with the team, we had the first rehearsal yesterday. As soon as I stepped into Liverpool, my energy went up to 200%! We are ready! I am the youngest representative in the contest this year, they go crazy and so do I when I remember it. The atmosphere is very nice, I have met many artists and I get along very well with all of them.

To Danae’s question about how the first rehearsal went and whether the Greek delegation is planning on making any changes, Victor answered:

Things went perfectly in the rehearsal, couldn’t have gone better. We also saw how it will look on TV. I will wear this outfit in the semi-final. There are two changes we will be making. Generally I don’t get stressed, everyone encourages me and everyone gives energy to others.

On Friday 5/5 Victor Vernicos will be having his second technical rehearsal on stage.

Greece: A minimal Greek summer is the staging idea for Eurovision 2023!

In the Greek morning show “Breakfast@star” the reporter  Μαρία Αργυριάδου gave exclusive informations about the Greek staging for Eurovision 2023!

“We know that Konstantinos Rigos is going to be the director of the Greek entry for Victor Vernicos perfomance. When we first heard it, we thought about artistic props, dancers, a maximal staging! But it is a big no, cause it will be the complete opposite!

The direction that Κοnstantinos Rigos decided is going to be completely minimal. Victor will be completely alone on stage with no one else. There will be no backing vocals, nothing behind him, zero help. There will be no dancers and not even his guitar. He will be completely alone and that’s because the director wants the audience to focus on Victor himself. There will be no water like the music video based on our exclusive information.

There is a concept though behind Victor’s staging idea. And that concept is Greek summer! All the colours and the lights on the stage of Eurovision 2023 will be customized to the concept of Greek summer and its colours!”

The director of the Greek staging said though that their main focus is Victor to narrate every lyric of the song with his expressions and movement.

Victor Vernicos will perform “What They Say” in the second Semi-Final of Eurovision 2023! You can listen to the song below:

Greece: Konstantinos Rigos reveals details about Victor’s performance in Liverpool!

The meet and greet of the Greek delegation and Victor Vernicos with the representatives of the press took place at “Noel” on Thursday afternoon.

Of course, Konstantinos Rigos, who has taken over the artistic supervision of the Greek participation in Liverpool in May, was also present at the event.

The ballet director of the National Opera Ballet spoke exclusively to Euronews and George Mitropoulos, revealing details about Victor Vernicos’ performance on the Eurovision stage.

First, he spoke about their collaboration:

“Victor is 16 years old. He has written the music and the lyrics, he has sung the song. In that sense, he is an artist who has clearly signed up to what we are going to Eurovision. That means he has an opinion on it. The song has a whole world in itself. When I first heard it, I said well, how do we enter this world? Because it’s a kid’s world, in a song that he wrote when he was 14 and he’s got all this claustrophobia and at the same time this “What they say”, which is a slogan about how you go from inside yourself to something outside. So that’s basically what I want to make. I want to create an introverted world, where there’s ultimately an extroverted communication party, between him, the 16-year-old who is ‘New Age’ and us who are the recipients of this final event.”

But how easy is the collaboration between the director and the young musician, who has never been tested on stage before and has no similar experience?

“It’s a complicated process because he’s a young kid, but he has an opinion. He’s in his own time. He knows what’s going on around him. He knows what’s going on in music. He’s a very good musician himself. He doesn’t have the stage experience and that’s where I’m called upon to help him with that. To convey to him my views on performance, what he should do and how he should be on stage, what he should convey, how he should make his own feeling become ours. So it’s basically a process that I’m mainly in the role of a teacher at this stage – it’s something I’ve very rarely done and at the same time a director.”

The well-known choreographer also mentioned the way they work and how he approaches this particular song:

“We work very well together. He’s promised me that what we’re setting up, he’ll do it 1,000 times by the time we get to the stage. For me, the big bet is that he manages not to lose his temper on this big stage. Because even if you’re a professional singer, the first moment you go out there, I say that because I’ve had previous experiences, you get scared. The hard thing about this particular song is that it’s not a ballad, it’s not a dance, it’s middle tempo. It has its explosions, but it’s all restrained. So that’s the bet, which I have to make, through the visuals and through him, because there won’t be any others on stage. I have to conquer it through his performance. So I have to bring both the introversion and the extroversion of the song on stage. It’s a gamble and I’m glad I took it, because I’ve done a lot of different things and I have an experience with a lot of singers and with Eurovision. I think we’ll make it. Victor has something primary. Anyone who listens to the song smiles because you don’t expect a 16-year-old kid to have that voice, that maturity in the music and that maturity in the lyrics. So that might be the card we can play.”
