Israel: Everything ΚΑΝ said in the EBU’s independent investigation for Eurovision 2024

Israel Public Television confirms that an independent investigation has been carried out, on behalf of the EBU, in relation to everything that happened during Eurovision 2024.

The EBU’s external partner conducting the said investigation has already contacted a senior executive of the Israeli public television. According to what KAN reported to Euromix, it is pointed out:

A conversation took place between the management of the Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation and an external examiner appointed by the EBU. The discussion was conducted in a very positive spirit, with the corporation’s team expressing and presenting their experiences and feelings about the Eurovision 2024 contest in Malmö in a full and transparent manner. During the conversation, the Israeli team also addressed the behavior of certain delegation members towards the Israeli delegation.

The EBU will use the results of this investigation to identify what mistakes happened that brought so much negative publicity, but also to learn lessons for the future.

ERT and RIK do not support the anonymous statement about Eurovision 2024!

For the past hours, an anonymous statement has been circulating the internet according which delegation members and participants of Eurovision 2024 submitted their complaints about Israel’s participation in this year’s contest. According to our exclusive information, neither ERT nor RIK have signed the following statement.

The following statement as published by ESC Gabe on their X account does not name the delegation members and artists alleged to have signed it, as they want to remain anonymous at the moment:

In recent days, we have seen a number of inaccurate reports about what happened backstage during the Eurovision 2024 contest, the alleged behaviour of artists towards the Israeli delegation, and the events surrounding EBU’s decision to move the Israeli delegation to a location backstage.

We are concerned about the inaccuracies being reported. During the Eurovision 2024 contest, several artists and national delegations submitted complaints to the EBU for inappropriate behaviour and breach of rules from members of the Israeli delegation.

We are engaging with the EBU and expect these complaints to be duly considered, as per the commitment of EBU’s officials. While there is an ongoing process, it would be inappropriate for us to publicly comment on specific facts, but we will do so, in due course.

Artists and members of national delegations who participated in the Eurovision 2024 contest

We are now waiting to see whether the statement that is currently circulating the internet will be disputed by other delegations this time, as it has happened before, or delegations and artists will confirm that they have signed the aforementioned statement.

Eurovision 2024: An independent investigation is underway!

Eurovision 2024 was stigmatized by a series of incidents that jeopardized the smooth operation of the show. Joost Klein’s disqualification along with the participation of Israel and the allegations claiming the Israeli delegation members harassing participants marred the 68th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Following the aforementioned, EBU has now confirmed to the Dutch media that an independent investigation on everything that happened in Malmö is underway. As EBU officially stated to RTL Boulevard:

To further strengthen the Eurovision Song Contest, we have asked an independent expert to look at ESC 2024 in Malmö to share insights and lessons with the EBU governing bodies to support the continuous improvement of this global event.

This development is also confirmed by our own sources and exclusive information. RIK, the Cypriot broadcaster, has already expressed its opinions and insights on what happened in Malmö as well as its own thoughts and ideas on what shall be changed in order to strengthen the contest and maintain its “positive” character.

Bambie Thug: “The Israeli delegation’s violations are being investigated by the EBU”

An EBU investigation is underway into alleged violations of the competition rules by the Israeli delegation, according to recent statements by Bambie Thug, who represented Ireland and finished in 6th place.

What charges does the Israeli broadcaster face?

Bambie Thug exposes several unlawful actions by KAN in a formal complaint that they filed to the EBU.

The first concern has to do with the Israeli commentators’ remarks about the Irish entry. During the show, the latter brought up Bambie Thug’s political views, claiming that their feelings about Israel are anything but favourable. The Irish delegation claims that as this influences viewers’ vote, it clearly violates EBU’s regulations.

The investigation also focuses on additional incidents such as the Eden Golan team’s persistent harassment of other delegations. The illegal filming of multiple participants is sone of those incidents. In fact, Bambie Thug, Nemo, and Marina Satti did not appear at the flag parade of the grand final dress rehearsal as a result of one of those events.

Bambie Thug stated in an interview with Ireland AM that more details will be made public after the investigation is over.

Portugal also denies that they were thinking of withdrawing from the Eurovision 2024 final!

The article of the Norwegian newspaper VK is developing into a fiasco, since after Greece and Switzerland, one more country out of the six that were supposed to be thinking about withdrawing from the Eurovision 2025 final, denies the alleged information.

Portugal has become the third country to deny that it was considering pulling out of the Eurovision 2025 final and that it was in discussions with the EBU, up until 25 minutes before the live broadcast of the show.

Rita Barradas, director of the record company to which Iolanda belongs, representative of the country in Malmö, categorically denies all of the above.

As for Portugal, the possibility of withdrawing from the Eurovision Song Contest was never considered and there was no discussion on this issue with the EBU, Barradas said in an interview with the Portuguese newspaper Bleach.

In addition, she clarifies the content of the discussions with the EBU:

Although there have been many controversial issues during the current Eurovision, Portugal’s withdrawal on the day of the finals was never on the agenda.

ERT was the first to categorically deny this “news” through Eurovisionfun, while a few days later Switzerland was added to the list, stating that there was never any thought of the country’s withdrawal from the contest. It is worth noting that ERT circles, when they denied the information about the alleged withdrawal of Greek participation, warned us that the report is equally untrue for the rest of the countries included in the disputed article.

It is therefore questionable what VK’s intention is and why it spreads such fake news, which only causes the shaking of bad situations, which this year hurt the Eurovision contest so much.

The three countries now left to clarify their stance and confirm whether they were indeed considering pulling out of the Eurovision 2025 final are Ireland, the United Kingdom and Norway.

Cyprus: Eleni Foureira released the Εurovision 2024 version of “Fuego”!

Undoubtedly, Eurovision 2024 shall be considered as an all-star edition. Plenty of Eurostars took the stage of Malmö Arena less than a month ago, as a part of the show’s interval acts. One of those who literally set the stage on fire was Eleni Foureira, the Cypriot representative in Eurovision 2018. Eleni Foureira performed her second-place finish Eurovision entry, “Fuego“, on a slightly alternative version, making the crowd go crazy, proving once again that you don’t have to win the contest to win people’s hearts.

In fact, the ‘24 version of “Fuego”, which Eleni Foureira performed in Malmö during the opening act of Semi-Final One, is now officially released in all streaming platforms.

Switzerland: Head of delegation denies they considered pulling out of Eurovision 2024

After ERT, also the public broadcaster of Switzerland, through the head of the country’s delegation to the contest, denies the reports of the Norwegian VG and the Swedish Aftonbladet, according to which six countries were considering their withdrawal from the Eurovision 2024 final. Read more

What happened at the dress rehearsal before the flag parade and almost blew up the contest!

About the incident that happened shortly before the flag parade of the last general rehearsal and resulted in Marina Satti, Nemo and Bambie Thug not appearing in it, the head of the Israeli delegation spoke, naturally giving his own version of the events . But for the first time we have a public position on the incident in question, even from one side of those involved.

According to Yoav Tsafir, head of the Israeli delegation to Eurovision 2024, the incident in question happened shortly before the start of the flag parade, at the midday general rehearsal of the final. While all the artists were backstage waiting to come out for the flag parade the following happened:

The singers are standing in line before the parade of flags, Eden was also standing there, next to her was her stylist, preparing her for the performance – and right next to her was the Greek representative, crying: “The Israelis are harassing me, these bastards are writing horrible things about me on social media for what I did (yawn)” and everyone comforted her. For a moment the stylist looked at her and smiled, then Marina Satti raised her middle finger to him. The stylist kept smiling, took out a camera and took a picture of her. Then Bambie Thug lost it and started screaming loudly at the Israeli delegation: “We want peace and you’re bothering us”!

We remind you that subsequently the artists from Greece, Ireland and Switzerland did not appear in the flag parade, while Bambie Thug from Ireland did not sing at all, instead broadcasting a video of her performance in the semi-final.

As we point out at the beginning of the article, this is the first public statement about what happened in the disputed incident. Of course, we will await the placement of the other side with interest.

Israel: Eden originally intended to finish her appearance with the hostage pin!

The head of the Israeli delegation, Yoav Tsafir, revealed a lot of interesting things during his interview yesterday. In addition to what he said about everything that was happening behind the scenes of the competition, he revealed that the original thought was for Eden Golan at the end of her appearance in the final, to display the yellow bow pin, a symbol of support for the return of the hostages, Hamas still holds.

Yoav Tsafir gave his own version of everything that dynamized behind the scenes this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. But apart from these, he mentioned that the Israeli delegation originally intended for Eden Golan to complete her appearance in the final with the pin-symbol of the abductees.

But in the end they decided to respect the regulations and the EBU, which from the beginning was in favor of Israel’s participation. In fact, Yoav Tsafir reports on this:

Finally, there is next year. The EBU was in favor of our participation and I thought we should play by the rules. The Swedes appreciated it…

Eden Golan returning to Israel sang the original version of Hurricane at a rally in Tel Aviv for the return of the hostages, performing October Rain live for the first time.

Israel: The head of delegation’s response to everything that happened at Eurovision 2024!

For everything that happened behind the scenes of Eurovision 2024, Yoav Tsafir, head of the Israeli delegation to the contest, gave his own answers.

Yoav Tsafir, who has a lot of experience with the competition, having accompanied Israeli delegations for at least eight years, argued that the source of the tension and all the drama that unfolded behind the scenes of this year’s contest was Israel’s rise to second place in the betting and the possibility of Eden Golan winning Eurovision 2024.

He first described how the members of the Israeli delegation were wearing tracking bracelets so that the security accompanying them knew where they were at all times. The hosts had prohibited them from traveling outside the hotel.

Some of the delegations of the other countries demanded not to be filmed with Eden Golan, while journalists from Israel were not allowed to photograph them either.

Relations between the Israeli delegation and some other delegations deteriorated rapidly immediately after the end of the semi-final, when Hurricane moved into second place in the betting.

Suddenly they started a competition, who will be more aggressive against Israel.

Also according to his words, several judges who are members of the national juries were instructed to rate Israel low, which is proven by the difference in the score of the juries and the television audience.

Finally, when on the day of the final the organizers decided to remove the Israeli delegation from the rest and put it in a dressing room away from the rest, Yoav Tsafir replied:

The last time they seperated the Jews in Europe like this was in 1939.

The above is the Israeli version of what happened behind the scenes of this year’s contest, which stigmatized it in the worst way.
