Eurovision 2022: RAI unveiled the first designs of the stage!

RAI, the host broadcaster for the 66th Eurovision Song Contest, has unveiled the impressive stage our 41 artists will be performing on in Turin this May.

As you read in our exclusive article months ago, acts can look forward to taking to The Sun Within – an ambitious new stage concept based on the movements and light of a kinetic sun.

Eurovision fans will witness a spectacular stage with the ability to showcase theatrical motion, which is framed by water and will have a lush Italian garden lapping up the rays in front of it.

Multimedia artist and stage designer Francesca Montinaro is the creative talent behind the design, which will present each of our 41 participating artists in a unique way, as they perform their songs to the rest of the world.

The kinetic sun, source of spectacular movements and tricks of light, rules the stage and represents our Italian attitude: always on the move, rebellious, creative, welcoming, passionate, intuitive. We are the ones with the sun within, and this is our way to be in this world!

Viewers tuning in to the 66th edition of Eurovision Song Contest – taking place in Turin on 10, 12 and 14 May – can look forward to becoming immersed in a breathtaking new visual experience, alongside the usual diverse musical soundscape that Eurovision fans have long cherished the contest for. RAI enthuses that the stage is both classic and modern at the same time, and manages to blend the digital with the analogue, demonstrating a range of light and movement.

A positive development, of course, is that looking at the photos released today by RAI, we notice that there is a forecast for the presence of the audience, in front of the stage. Just like before the pandemic. Normalcy returns to the Eurovision contest!

Eurovision 2022: Postcard Filming Continues in Umbria!

A few days ago, the shooting of postcards for the 66th Eurovision Song Contest 2022 began, with Perugia being revealed as the first location.

Rai continues to turn postcards with the motto of the competition “The Sound of Beauty”, highlighting the beauty of Italy.

Eurofestival reveals that postage filming continued in the Umbria area. According to information, both Marmore Falls and the city of Terni will be presented. The choice of the two locations in Umbria, represents the claim that defines Umbria as the “green heart of Italy”.

The postcards are shown before the start of each performance at the Eurovision Song Contest with each nation having a different postcard. The postcard is used traditionally to promote the host country of that year’s contest or show the artist who is due to perform next.

In 2021 the postcard displayed all the artists in a small house in a unique place in the Netherlands. The artists filmed their presence in front of them and then placed it on a house that was full of objects related to them.

Italy: 13.3 Million Viewers for the Final Night of Sanremo 2022!

The 72nd edition of Sanremo came to an end yesterday with more than 13 million viewers tuned in to RAI. It was the highest viewership for the Festival since 2005!

13,38 million viewers for the final night of Sanremo 2022

Sanremo, 6 February 2022 – And it is boom for final of the Sanremo Festival 2022, who crowned winners Mahmood & Blanco with “Brividi”. Last night Rai1 got  13 million 380 thousand viewers equal to 64.9%. Last year the last evening of the Festival had scored an average of 9 million 970 thousand viewers with a 54.4% share.

The viewing figures for the past 4 nights of this year show are as followed:

  • Night One – 10.9 million
  • Night two – 11.3 million
  • Night three – 9.3 million
  • Night four – 11.37 million
  • Final – 13.3 million

All nights saw an increase in viewers compared with last year’s show in 2020. The final in 2020 just 9.9 million viewers and a share of 54.4% and nights two and four had their best viewing figures since 1995 this year. The audience peaked with 16,984,000 viewers at 22:38 CET during the performance of Farfalle Azzurre.

As winners of the 72nd Sanremo Festival, Mahmood and Blanco had first refusal on whether or not they participate in Eurovision 2022. They accepted the offer during the winners’ press conference and will now represent Italy on home ground in Turin. “Brividi” will have to undergo adjustments before it can compete in Eurovision, as it is currently over three minutes long, which is against Eurovision rules.

Eurovision 2022: Italy at the top of the betting tables!

The favorite column of many of you is back, as the betting analyzes for the 66th Eurovision Song Contest are here again.

With the puzzle of the 41 songs that will participate in Eurovision 2022 having been completed by a quarter, we will take a look at the odds of the betting companies regarding the chances of victory of each country in this year’s Contest.

In any case, these returns reflect trends and are based on what we know so far in relation to the participation of each country.

Top 5

With the best omens, the host Italy starts its effort for the home competition of Turin. The triumph of Mahmood & Blanco at the 72nd San Remo Festival has brought the organizers to the first place of the betting tables, with a difference from the other contenders. An important role in this development has been played by the response of the Italian participation, which is in the five most popular songs at the moment on Spotify.

Greece is currently in second place among betting companies in the event of victory, with three out of four companies giving single-digit odds on Amanda bringing the second victory in the Mediterranean country. However, as you can see in the table below, the highest country-by-country odd is taken into account in order to rank. This is the reason why Greece is listed as fourth. With the odds in most companies having fallen, it is a matter of hours for Greece to formally rise in this ranking. This is a very promising start for the Greek participation, which is constantly rising in recent days.

Australia and Poland are close by. For Australia, the anticipation of a strong participation by Sheldon Riley and the – so far – level of songs of Australia Decides has played a role in considering the country of Oceania the third favorite. Along with Australia is Poland, which seems to be represented by Krystian Ochman and the song “River”. The release of this song brought the Central European country to the top of the betting tables midweek.

Sweden completes the top five. Belief in an even higher level of songs in the upcoming semifinals of the Melodifestivalen 2022 and the excellent tradition of the Scandinavians in the competition over the last decade, places them – as every year – in the top favorites.

Top 10

The rest of the top ten includes four countries that have so far kept quiet about their participation in Eurovision 2022. It remains unknown for Russia and Armenia who will represent them in the 66th Eurovision Song Contest. For France and Germany we are waiting for details in the next period, regarding the participants of the national finals and their songs.

The only country that is in the Top 10 and we know details about its candidate artists is Norway. Just yesterday, the fourth semifinal of the Melodi Grand Prix 2022 was held and now we know nine out of the ten finalists. The appearances of the MGP 2022 have affected the betting performances of the Scandinavian country, with some favorites underperforming and some surprises impressing on stage.

Conclusions

A lot can change in the next three months. The odds, of course, will go through various ups and downs. With just 9 of the 41 songs available, it’s extremely early to draw any conclusions. Information about the stage presence and of course the appearances at the PalaAlpitour in Turin can change everything at the tables of the betting companies.

Do you think Italy can do the back-to-back and become the first country after Ireland in the early 90’s to achieve consecutive victories in Eurovision?

Mahmood & Blanco will represent Italy at Eurovision 2022!

After the end of the Sanremo 2022 in which were crowned winners, Mahmood & Blanco officially said yes to the representation of Italy at Eurovision 2022 in Turin!

During the press conference after the victory of the duo, the official announcement was made by Mahmood:

I am happy that Eurovision will take place in Turin, we will see you in Turin!

Asked if the song would remain in Italian or if it would be sung in English, Blanco initially said it would remain in Italian, but later said:

We want to bring Italian music abroad, we still do not know, we will see…

Mahmood said he did not dedicate much of the song to somewhere, while Blanco said they worked hard to get this track out, as it should be for all beautiful things.

Italy as the host country and member of the Big 5 competes directly in the final of Eurovision 2022. We will have the opportunity to see the song live for the first time during the first semifinal of Eurovision on May 10!

The ranking so far

After the first four nights, the Mahmood & Blanco duo continues to be in the lead, being the big favorite to win the 72nd Sanremo Festival and represent Italy in Eurovision 2022 in May. In second place is Gianni Morandi, legend of Italian music yet probably this year’s Sanremo surprise so far. The top 3 is completed by Elisa, who from the first place after the second night has now dropped to the third. In any case, this trio is expected to reach the final round that will determine the winner. Nevertheless, as Sanremo’s long history has taught us, no one can rule out the possible entrance of Irama, Sangiovanni, Emma, La Rappresentante di Lista or another surprise entry into the top three after the audience votes.

The voting

There are two rounds of voting tonight. In the first round, only the television audience has the right to vote. The ranking of the audience will be taken into account and will be combined with the scores of the previous nights.

Then, positions 23 -4 will be unveiled. The top three in the ranking, without their exact placing being revealed, will advance to the second round of voting.

In the second round, all previous voting for the top 3 artists from the previous nights and rankings will be canceled. The televote (34%), the journalists (33%) and the demoscopic jury (33%) will vote among the top 3 from scratch, in order to determine the winner.

The winning song of Sanremo 2022 is automatically considered to be Italy’s participation in Eurovision 2022.
