Finland: Listen to Aksel’s song for UMK 2021!

The Finnish broadcaster YLE released the fourth song of UMK, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is the song of Aksel, Hurt.

Hurt is a powerful but sensitive ballad and you mention how deceptive it can look.

Aksel Kankaanranta was born on January 28, 1998 in Turku, Finland. He was the winner of UMK 2020 and the representative of Finland at the Eurovision 2020 Song Contest in Rotterdam with the song Looking Back. Although his victory last year did not take him to Rotterdam, it gave him other opportunities, such as working with the best producers in Finland where he also released a song in Finnish. Aksel believes he is better prepared and ready to regain his throne as Finland’s next representative in the Eurovision Song Contest.

One may look okay on the outside, but one could still have terrible pain on the inside. When you are in pain, you also end up with those you love. I have had this experience, so I can really identify with this message. My song is also a reminder that you do not need to be anyone but you, Aksel concludes.

The seven artists who will claim the golden ticket to Rotterdam are:

Oskr – Lie
Teflon Brothers x Pandora – I Love You
Danny – Sinä päivänä kun kaikki rakastaa mua
Laura – Play
Aksel – Hurt
Blind Channel – Dark Side
Ilta – Kelle mä soitan

The songs that will compete in the grand final of UMK 2021, which will be held on February 20, will be announced one every day, as follows:

January 14 – Oskr – Lie
January 15 – Teflon Brothers x Pandora – I Love You
January 18 – Danny – Sinä päivänä kun kaikki rakastaa mua

Finland: Listen to Laura’s song for UMK 2021!

Some minutes ago, the Finnish broadcaster YLE released the fourth song of UMK 2021, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is Laura’s song, “Play”.

Play is an irresistible combination of country and pop music. Its lyrics focus on a relationship inside and outside where one person is bored with constantly forgiving the other.

I want my fans to open their hearts to me and find the strength and support they need to move on in their lives and relationships.

Laura Põldvere, born in August 30, 1988, is known as Laura, and is an Estonian singer. She represented Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 as a member of the band Suntribe and again represented her country at Eurovision 2017 in a duet with Koit Toome with the song “Verona”.

She is one of the most popular artists on Estonian radios in the last decade. Also her first album in 2007 was one of the most popular albums of the decade. Laura has been in Finland for a long time since she was a little girl. Today, she usually spends half a year in Finland as part of her music and professional career. Her tenth album, released in the winter of 2019, was created in Finland and she has also started learning Finnish. Laura believes that joining UMK will help strengthen her position in her new homeland. The last spark for her participation in was lit last spring, when she participated in the international jury of UMK.

The seven artists who will claim the golden ticket to Rotterdam are:

Oskr – Lie

Finland: Listen to Danny’s song for UMK 2021!

Some mintes ago, the Finnish broadcaster YLE released the third song of UMK, the country’s national final for Eurovision 2021. It is Danny’s song, “Sinä päivänä kun kaikki rakastaa mua”.

“Sinä päivänä kun kaikki rakastaa mua” (The day everyone loves me) is a song with a unique and melancholic rhythm that according to Danny, is not a farewell song. Lkka Johannes Lipsanen, born September 24, 1942, known as Danny, is a Finnish singer and guitarist. Although you may not believe it he is still active in the song industry. Danny’s career is one of the longest in Finland and it is certainly over 50 years old. He has recorded many successful songs. He has done thousands of concerts in more than 20 countries around the world and has collaborated with the best Finnish composers and producers since the 60’s. With over 100 songs in the top charts of the country.

It’s about how life is a gift, but how you can never be sure how long it will last – only that it will end. My song aims to be humorous with a real theme. Although its lyrics may not represent Eurovision, it is an ambitious endeavor that represents a perspective rarely approached in pop music.

Eurovision 2021: Sietse Bakker gives answers for the live on tape videos, the vaccines and the scenario that will be chosen! (Video)

A really interesting interview was given by the executive producer of Eurovision 2021, Sietse Bakker, to Jan Bors and his YouTube channel, Humans of Eurovision.

For the cancellation of Eurovision 2020

Sietse Bakker said that the team that was preparing for the contest in 2020, was very sad and disappointed, after so much effort was lost. Of course it was something that in the last days before the cancellation more and more people expected, since all the big events were canceled.

The fact that no one in Europe initially paid much attention to the pandemic was the reason why they were not prepared at all for this scenario and so we were led to the cancellation of Eurovision 2020. Unlike last year, this year the team is working feverishly for each possible scenario, related to the evolution of the pandemic.

Which scenario will be chosen for Eurovision 2021?

Unfortunately Sietse Bakker is not yet able to answer this question. He said they would have to announce next month, the scenario they believe could be implemented in May, so essentially predicting the course of the pandemic by then. It is a very difficult thing, but it is in consultation with all the competent bodies, in order to make the right decision.

Scenario D is not the worst possible thing for Sietse Bakker, but to disappoint the fans of the competition and not have done everything in their power to have the best Eurovision, under these conditions.

Live on tape videos will offer a great variety in the contest

Jan Bors asked Sietse Bakker of course about the live on tape videos and if we would be able to watch them, even if in the end the contest is not based on scenario D.

The executive producer of the competition mentioned the differences that will exist in the process of live on tape videos, in relation to what was observed for Junior Eurovision.

The national broadcasters will be given more freedom to make their own scene, that is, not all scenes will be the same. Of course there will be some limits to this. Directing, each country will have the opportunity to present its own approach. According to Sietse Bakker, this will offer a great variety and even if these appearances need to compete, it will be of great interest to viewers.

It is a decision of the EBU whether these appearances will eventually be broadcast, in case we do not go to scenario D.

The vaccine will not be mandatory

Although he is a proponent of vaccination, Sietse Bakker is clear. This decision belongs to the politicians and they cannot make it. For their part, they will do everything possible to keep the artists alive in Rotterdam, many rapid tests and they will ask the delegations to stay as long as possible in the hotels, in order to reduce the possibility of one of them getting sick.

Will there finally be an audience at the Ahoy Arena?

The answer to this question will be given shortly before the competition, as no one is able to predict what the situation will be in the Netherlands in May. But Sietse Bakker promises in this regard, that both his own intention and that of the organizers is to have a Eurovision as “normal” as possible, if of course conditions allow.

EBU releases Eurovision 2021 new branding!!

At the end of 2020, EBU revealed Eurovision 2021 new logo. Now EBU releases the fully new branding design for the next contest in Rotterdam, alongside with the relevant design patterns that will decorate Rotterdam in the upcoming May.

The colour palette used, is based on the flags colours of the participating countries, mostly primary colours. They are also combined with additional colours like pink, purple, light green which EBU says emphasise the festivity.

Moreover, the branding incorporates six patterns which include features of the Netherlands: landscapes, water, bridges, fields, creativity and resilience. Worth to be mentioned is the fact that there is not a single windmill. Those symbols where chosen so that people outside the Netherlands can be familiar with them as well.

The Branding of Eurovision 2021 will include The Track.

The aforementioned patterns will be used in backgrounds as well as in an additional part of the 2021 branding which is called the Track.

The Track takes its cue from the rays of the logo. It is made up of a number of triangular shapes which together form a long pathway type of design. The EBU says it’s based on the “symbol and perspective” of the Rotterdam stage design.

Italy: No audience in Sanremo 2021 or transfer for later!

The future of Sanremo 2021 remains uncertain, as the current Italian press reports that RAI has rejected plans to hold the festival on the dates already announced, with an audience on the stands of the Teatro Ariston. The two options that Amadeus now has are the Sanremo on March 2 to 6 but without an audience or its postponement for April at least.

The plans to create a protective shield around the people involved in Sanremo and to stay on a cruise ship throughout the festival so that they have no other contact with the rest of the world seem to be permanently rejected by the RAI.

According to the trustworthy Il Messaggero, the two scenarios that are now being considered are the following:

  • The Sanremo 2021 will take place on the announced dates (March 2 to 6), but without the presence of the audience.
  • The postponement of the festival for April onwards, where they hope that the presence of the audience will be possible, since there will be more time for the vaccination.

In the event of course that the second scenario prevails, then Italy will have to choose its representative in the Eurovision Song Contest in a different way, since the meeting of the Heads of Delegations will take place on March 15 and until then the 41 countries participating in this year’s contest should have completed the procedures for the song selections.
