USA: Partners looking at options for the American Song Contest!

The EBU provided an update on the status of the American Song Contest following its cancellation by NBC earlier this year.

The American Song Contest was cancelled after its first season on NBC due to disappointing ratings and lack of impact on the music charts. Martin Österdahl the Executive Supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest commented at a press conference in Liverpool earlier today:

Partners in America are looking at other options

The Eurovision franchise in the US is operated by Voxovation, which holds the exclusive rights to the Eurovision brand beyond the European region.

The winner of the 2022 Contest was AleXa, from Oklahoma, with the song Wonderland.

American Song Contest: AleXa from Oklahoma is the winner!

The American Song Contest 2022 has just ended with Oklahoma winning the contest with the song Wonderland. 25-year-old AleXa from Oklahoma won the American Song Contest 2022, receiving 710 points. Colorado was second while Kentucky ended up in third place.

In tonight’s grand final the following artists participated:

  1. Connecticut – Michael Bolton – Beautiful World
  2. North Dakota – Chloe Fredericks – Can’t Make You Love Me
  3. Texas – Grant Knoche – Mr. Independent
  4. Alabama – Ni/Co – The Difference
  5. Kentucky – Jordan Smith – Sparrow
  6. Washington – Allen Stone – A Bit of Both
  7. American Samoa – Tenelle – Full Circle
  8. Oklahoma – AleXa – Wonderland
  9. Tennessee – Tyler Braden – Seventeen
  10. Colorado – Riker Lynch – Feel the Love

At the beginning of the final, Snoop Dogg and Kelly Clarkson announced the system by which the results of the final will be announced. The 56-state judges were divided into 10 regions with each region awarding 1-7, 8, 10 and 12 points. In the public vote, each state voted separately while using the same system as the judges which resulted in the public vote determining 85% of the results!

American Song Contest: The Last Four Qualifiers of the 2nd Semi-Final!

A few moments ago, the qualifiers of the second semi-final, and therefore the last finalists of the American Song Contest 2022 were released. The second semi-final took place last Monday (2/5) with eleven states competing for the last five spots in the final. Tyler Braden from Tennessee won the jury vote and therefore advanced to the grand final!

This will be the eighth of eight nights and will be broadcast live on Tuesday, May 9, at 2AM CET on NBC. American Song Contest: Second Semi-Final’s Results!

A few minutes ago, the second semi-final of the American Song Contest ended, eleven states competed for the last five spots in the final. The outcome is decided by the votes of the judges and the public vote. AleXa (Oklahoma), Riker Lynch (Colorado), Jordan Smith (Kentucky), Ni/Co (Alabama) and Allen Stone (Washington) were named as the first finalists with Τyler Braden from Tennessee following them after winning the support of the judges in the second semifinal!

The following artists participated in tonight’s semi-final:

  2. North Carolina: John Morgan – “Right in the Middle
  3. Kansas: Broderick Jones – “Tell Me
  4. New York: Enisa – “Green Light

At the end of the night, the jury winner of the second semi-final was announced and therefore Tyler Braden of Tennesse managed to beat Kansas’ Broderick Jones and will qualify as the sixth finalist.

American Song Contest: First Semi-Final’s Results!

The first semi-final of American Song Contest just finished with eleven states competing for five spots in the grand final, with the outcome decided by the votes of the judges and the public vote. Tenelle from American Samoa, John Morgan from North Carolina and Sweet Taboo from California were the remaining qualifiers from the last qualifier round and will appear in the 2nd semi-final as well as Enisa from New York as she received the second wildcard. Washington’s Allen Stone qualified from the judges of the first semi-final and is the first finalist!

The following artists competed in tonight’s semi-final:

Just before the end of the show, the winner of the first semi-final’s jury was announced and therefore Allen Stone from Washington will be in the final.

American Song Contest: The viewing figures of the fifth qualifier round!

The final qualifying round of the American Song Contest took place on Monday night.

In Monday’s qualifier round, 16-year-old Ada LeAnn with her song “Natalie” representing Michigan was named the new American Song Contest semifinalist after winning the judges’ vote. In addition, Jared Lee (Massachusetts), Stela Cole (Georgia) and MARi (New Hampshire) were announced as the remaining semifinalists of the 4th qualifier round.

One day after the final round of the competition’s qualifying round, Nielsen gave us new ratings data for the competition. The latest American Song Contest qualifier round round averaged 1,470,000 viewers during its 120 minutes. In the 18-49 age group, the most important age group for advertisers, the heat drew 0.3% viewership (viewership as a percentage of the total population in this age group).

Compared to last week, the latest round of the American Singing Contest elimination managed a slight 2.08% increase in share of viewership. In one week, the competition picked up 70,000 viewers. Since its premiere, it has lost 52.7% of the audience.

The first part (20:00-21:00) was watched by 1,637,000 viewers (0.3% 18-49 rating) and the second part (21:00-22:00) by 1,304,000 viewers (0.2% 18-49 rating). In both positions, it was the fourth pick of the night!

Jared Lee from Massachusetts, Stela Cole from Georgia and MARi from New Hampshire will join Washington’s Allen Stone from the fourth qualifier round to the semi-finals. Michigan’s Ada LeAnn will follow them as he won the fifth qualifier round’s jury as well as Ryan Charles from Wyoming as he earned one of the two wildcards!
