Austria: The announcement of the artist in December!

The national broadcaster of Austria, ORF, is expected to announce in December the artist who will represent the central-european country in the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden.

ORF’s scout Eberhard Forcher posted yesterday the below comment:

“The day before yesterday was the deadline for submissions to the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. WOW ! Unbelievable, how many great songs have come in the last few weeks. Over 60 ! Most of them are still active scouting . Peter Schreiber and my smallness have been on broadband since June probing & motivating . . . . Now the editors will invite the 15 (?) best acts to the ORF Zemntrum for video casting. The clips will then be released to the juries and the ORF will announce its choice in December at the latest. The idea of the planned public voting cannot be implemented this year for legal reasons. So much for that !”

This year Austria was represented in Liverpool by Teya and Salena with the song “Who the Hell Is Edgar?”. They qualified from the 2nd place of the Second Semi-Final, and finished in 15ht place of the Grand Final with 120 points.

Austria: Is the country organizing a National Final for Eurovision 2024?

After the announcement that Conchita Wurst, is not going to take part in the Austrian national selection for Eurovision 2024, there are numerous scenarios going around, that the public will have their own say at the selection.

Despite their inicial proclamation, that the country is going to have an internal selection once again, the public broadcaster of Austria, ORF, talked about the possibility of a live show selection for picking the representative of Eurovision 2024. If in the end, this scenario ends up being true, then it will be the first national final in Austria since 2016.

As we have informed you, more than twelve artists have been approached directly from the broadcaster. However, anyone interested, can submit their entry until September 30, through the email address songcontest@orf.at.

The national selection of Austria last year, besides the jury panel, included live performances in front of a focus group of Eurovision specials.

Teya & Salena represented Austria at Eurovision 2023 with the song “Who The Hell is Edgar” and finished 15th in the Grand Final, bringing their country to the Final after three consecutive non-qualifications:

Austria: Watch the stand-in rehearsal of “Who The Hell is Edgar?”!

It has already been two months since the 67th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool. 37 performers stepped on the stage of the M&S Bank Arena giving it all and representing their countries in the biggest song competition in the world, after months of intense preparations.

The impressive stage performances that they pulled off were first tried on the Eurovision stage a few days before their arrival through simulations, known as stand in rehearsals. Stand in rehearsals are usually executed by local artists and performers so all participants can know in advance the television result of the performances. On a later stage, they have the opportunity to ask for changes during the technical rehearsals executed by the representatives themselves.

A few days ago the stand-in rehearsals of Switzerland, Israel, Serbia, Portugal, Italy, Finland and Cyprus were leaked. You can watch all of them in our article.

A little while ago another rehearsal was released and it is none other than that of Austria. It is the song “Who The Hell is Edgar?” performed by Teya & Salena. You can see the rehearsal in the video below:

What do you think of Austria’s stand-in rehearsal? Did you see any difference between this and the final performance?

Austria: Internal Selection for 2024!

For a seventh consecutive year ORF, the national broadcaster of Austria, decided to go internal for the selection of the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden! The last time that Austria held a national selection show was in 2016 through the show “Wer Singt für Österreich?”

Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz, the program director of ORF, stated that they are still looking for the exact method that the internal selection will be carried out. He also revealed why a national selection show is not an option.

“We already have a big talent show in the ORF 1 program with “Die große Chance – Let’s sing and dance”.

This year Austria was represented at Liverpool by Teya & Salena and the song “Who the Hell is Edgar?” which brought the country back to the final after 2018 and finished in the 15th place with 120 points.

Eurovision 2023: Watch the exclusive rehearsal footage from the remaining Semi Final 2 acts’ second rehearsals!

The preparations on Liverpool for the 67th Eurovision Song Contest are on fire and it’s now a wrap for the 6th day of the technical rehearsals. After their first technical rehearsals, the representatives of the 11 remaining acts participating in the 2nd Semifinal on May 11, took the stage of the M&S Bank Arena for their second rehearsals.

About the first 5 countries from SemiFinal 2 that had their second rehearsals yesterday:

The second rehearsals gave the opportunity to the delegations to fix any mistakes spotted on the first rehearsals and help the artists feel more safe and familiar with the Eurovision big stage.

Because accredited journalists are not allowed to watch both the first and second rehearsals this year, we have very little information about what this year’s artists have prepared for the Eurovision stage. EBU has just uploaded through the official Eurovision channel in YouTube a recap of today’s rehearsals. More specifically, we will have the chance to watch exclusive TV footage of today’s rehearsals.

The countries that had their second rehearsals today were the following:

  1. Cyprus
  2. Iceland
  3. Greece
  4. Poland
  5. Slovenia
  6. Georgia
  7. San Marino
  8. Austria
  9. Albania
  10. Lithuania
  11. Australia
