Ukraine: Which artist does Jamala want to see return to Eurovision?

In a recent interview, 2016 Eurovision winner, Jamala named the artist she would like to see representing Ukraine again at Eurovision.

Jamala is confident that Tina Karol, one of the most well-known representatives of the country, could not only come back again but take the victory for Ukraine in the competition.  The artist already represented Ukraine at the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, celebrated in Athens with the song Show Me Your Love.  She finished in 7th place in the Final.

“I think that Tina Karol could do well in Eurovision.  There are cases of artists that previously participated [and do better] in their second participation.”

However, Jamala is not thinking about a Eurovision return for herself.  When asked about the possibility she gave a negative answer because she already made history by winning and getting what she dreamed of.  Moreover, she said she would like to be a jury once again for the Ukrainian national selection.

Tina Karol already made a comeback during the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool as an interval act.  Nevertheless, she is not representing Ukraine next year as she will be the new music producer of the national selection for Eurovision 2025.

Would you like to see Tina Karol returning to Eurovision to represent Ukraine?  Let us know in the comments!

Jamala on the Russian government’s wanted list!

Jamala, who won the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest for Ukraine and is of Tatar heritage, was discovered to be on the Russian government’s wanted list earlier today, according to reports from the RIA and TASS news agencies.

More precisely, the singer is being prosecuted for allegedly disparaging Moscow’s armed forces, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Jamala is renowned for her efforts to enlighten and raise the public’s awareness of the situation in Ukraine following the Russian invasion. She has publicly criticized the Russian regime on multiple occasions in this regard, which infuriated Moscow and brought about this situation.

Her Eurovision entry was also politically fraught as it discussed the 1944 expulsion and ethnic cleansing of the Crimean Tatars by Stalin’s Soviet authority. She stated that the song was also referencing the 2014 Russian invasion of Crimea in addition to this historical occurrence.

Using an emoji to convey her displeasure, Jamala, who is now touring Australia to raise funds for the bolstering of the Ukrainian army, responded to the news through an instagram story:

Jamala: “It would be “fair” for the UK to host Eurovision 2023”

Eurovision 2016 winner Jamala has backed Eurovision 2023 being hosted in the United Kingdom, if the contest cannot be held in Ukraine. However, the Ukrainian singer, who triumphed with her song “1944”, said that the EBU’s decision to not hold next year’s contest in Ukraine is “premature” and “very painful”.

In an interview with PA News, Jamala said that the United Kingdom would be “fair” hosts of Eurovision 2023 after Sam Ryder finished runner-up at this year’s contest. His entry “Space Man” brought home the UK’s best result in the contest since 1998. Jamala even added her praises for Sam Ryder, saying that his entry was “really, really, really good”.

“Great Britain came second in the competition, so if Ukraine is unwilling to host the event for whatever reason, it would be fair to hold it in one of your cities [in the UK]”

The 2016 Eurovision winner did also add that the decision by the EBU that Eurovision 2023 cannot be held in Ukraine was “sad” and “very painful”. However, Jamala said that she understands that the contest must be held in a safe location for all delegates and fans.

“It’s really sad the EBU decided to take away all this chance and all this hope, but I really understand that it has to be in a peaceful place for participants and for everybody.”

Ukraine won the right to host the contest after Kalush Orchestra’s win in Turin with “Stefania”, but The UK has been offered the chance to host Eurovision in 2023 after the song contest’s organisers concluded that Ukraine is not capable of hosting it, a decision that has angered the nation’s government, which says it still wants to hold the event.
