Greece: Victor Vernicos covers Alexander Rybak and Amanda Tenfjord!

Last Thursday, the Greek national broadcaster ERT hosted a meet-and-greet event where we got the chance to meet Victor Vernicos. Victor performed “What They Say“ live for the first time in front of an audience but also performed two of his all-time favourite Eurovision entries! Ukraine: more than 700,000 will decide Eurovision 2023 Jury

Ukraine is about to finish the selection process for their Eurovision 2023 jurors.  The selection of the Ukrainian jury has been very inclusive with the audience being involved through their votes.

According to broadcaster Suspilne, people have casted more than 700,000 votes for their preferred jurors.  The voting process has now closed and soon we will know the names of the five jurors that will represent Ukraine.  In total 724,000 Ukrainians have participated in the selection process of the Ukrainian jury.

The names of the jurors will be revealed on May 13.

The hopeful jurors are:

  • Roxolana – Finalist in Vidbir 2022
  • Olena Hrebenyuk – Opera singer
  • Mykhailo Klymenko – Singer, composer and producer
  • Amador Lopez – Singer, choreographer and presenter
  • Tonya Matvienko – Honoured artist of Ukraine
  • Oleksandr “Fozzie” Sydorenko – Member of TNMK
  • Oleg Sobchuk – Frontman and founder of Skay
  • Svitlana Tarabarova – Singer, composer and songwriter
  • Yevhen Khmara – Composer
  • Olena Shoptenko – Choreographer and world champion in sports ballroom dancing

The names that received the most votes will get the chance to form part of the jury.  The candidate receiving the most votes will be Head of the Ukrainian Jury.

In case one of the candidates with the most votes decide not to be part of the jury, the invitation will go to the next person with the most votes.

Romania: Theodor Andrei filmed his postcard for Eurovision 2023!

Theodor Andrei was selected to represent Romania at Eurovision 2023 after winning Selecția Națională 2023. He came second in the telephone vote and first in the online vote.

The song that Theodor will perform in Liverpool is called “D.G.T. (Off and on)“. It has been written by Mikail Jahed, Luca de Mezzo, Luca Udățeanu and Theodor himself. “D.G.T.” is a pun on the Romanian word “degete” meaning “fingers”.

Via a tweet from the BBC’s official Eurovision account, we learn that filming for the postcard that will appear before Theodor Andrei’s Eurovision 2023 performance has begun and is taking place in Bucharest.

The BBC has released behind-the-scenes footage of the Romanian postcard for Eurovision 2023. It’s filmed in Bucharest in front of the Ion Luca Caragiale National Theatre, and shows Andrei miming in front of the statue and having fun.

This year the Eurovision production team chose to shoot the postcards in the country of each entry, rather than using the postcards to showcase the country hosting the contest.
The countries that we know that their postcards have been shot so far are:

  • Albania – Albina & Familija Kelmendi
  • Austria – Teya & Salena
  • Croatia – Let 3
  • Cyprus – Andrew Lambrou
  • France – La Zarra
  • Germany – Lord of the Lost
  • Ireland – Wild Youth
  • Latvia – Sudden Lights
  • Lithuania – Monika Linkytė
  • Malta – The Busker
  • Moldova – Pasha Parfeni
  • Netherlands – Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper
  • Poland – Blanka
  • Slovenia – Joker Out

Don’t forget that Theodor Andrei with “D.G.T. (Off and on)” is competing in the Second Semi-Final on May 11th in order of appearance 03

Greece: Watch Victor Vernicos perform “What They Say” live for the first time!

Earlier today, the Greek national broadcaster ERT hosted a meet-and-greet event where we got the chance to meet Victor Vernicos and watch him perform live a couple of past Eurovision entries as well as this year’s Greek entry “What They Say“!

Victor Vernicos with his song “What They Say” hopes to continue the Greek top-10 streak and the positive results of recent years! As of now, Greece is placed  9th in the odds for qualifying to the final.

Sweden: Loreen reveals resolution of staging issues, at the Eurovision Reddit AMA!

Over the last month, uncertainty had emerged regarding the staging of the Swedish participation at the Eurovision Song Contest. Despite the fact that the Swedish national broadcaster SVT had known the EBU staging restrictions for months, there was not a clear answer by the Swedish delegation on whether they will make any changes on the staging of “Tattoo“, in order to comply with the EBU rules.

Until Loreen took part at an AMA event on Reddit, where she revealed that all the staging issues have been resolved, removing any uncertainty about her appearance at M&S Bank Arena.

During the event, she had been asked about whether her delegation had sorted out the issue with 1.800 kg LED screen hanging from the ceiling of the arena and she responded that if all got sorted out:

“Yes and I hope it inspires you!”

However, it is still a mystery about how the delegation and creative team will resolve the issue. Being asked about if she will keep her LED screen “sandwich” staging that we awed us at Melodifestivalen she replied:

“I will do my best for you guys!”

Among others, Loreen mentioned releasing new music within the year and also she is in the talks for a possible European tour.

Even though the resolution is still not public, an answer will be given at Loreen’s stand-in rehearsal in mid-April, while her first technical rehearsal is scheduled for Sunday 4/30.

The Netherlands: Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper have filmed their postcard for Eurovision 2023!

Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper, representatives of the Netherlands at Eurovision 2023, have filmed their postcard.

A tweet by the BBC’s official Eurovision account has given out some information about what we will see on the postcard.

The postcard shows the singers skating through the streets of Zaandam. Zaandam is located north of Amsterdam and has a population of less than 80,000. It is known for its colorful buildings, including the Inntel Hotel, which consists of different styles of houses, in different colors.

Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper, who compete with “Burning Daylight” in the first semi-final on May 9th performing in 14th place, continue their preparations with great energy.

Azerbaijan: First Live Performance of “Tell Me More”!

TuralTuranX will represent Azerbaijan with the song “Tell Me More” in Liverpool. They are the twin brothers Turan & Tural Bağmanovlar who make up the duo TuralTuranX.

The two brothers gave their first live performance of “Tell Me More”, Azerbaijan’s entry for Eurovision 2023.

The representatives of Azerbaijan TuralTuranX presented their participation in the 67th Eurovision Song Contest live for the first time. The performance from Israel Calling’s pre-party has been released online. You can watch the show here:

Eurovision 2023: 10 cities in the UK will broadcast the Grand Final outdoors!

In more and more cities across the UK, it has been announced that the Eurovision 2023 Grand Final will be broadcast live in an open space. More than ten cities in the host country will hold a public screening on Saturday 13 May.

According to a BBC announcement, Birmingham, Brighton, Cardiff, Darlington, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle, Nottingham and Sheffield will broadcast the contest in outdoors.

The nine cities announced by the BBC had either submitted a bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2023, which will be held in Liverpool, or were considering submitting a bid. Plymouth has already announced its plans for public viewing of the Final.

Martin Green CBE, the BBC’s Managing Director for the Eurovision Song Contest, said:

“We’re thrilled to roll out Eurovision to more UK cities. So many people here are huge Eurovision fans and for those new to the Contest they will get to experience the joy of watching the Grand Final surrounded by thousands of others right there in their local city.”

Germany: Lord of the Lost reacts to Eurovision 2023 songs!

Lead singer from Lord of the Lost, Chris “The Lord” Harms has reacted to his Eurovision colleagues.  The leader of Lord of the Lost gave his first impressions of all of the acts competing in Liverpool.

Here we can see the German representative reacting to the participating acts in Semifinal 1 and the Big 5 countries also voting in the semifinal:

And here is Chris reaction to the acts competing in Semifinal 2, the big 5 countries voting in the second semifinal as well as Ukraine:

It may come as a surprise to some of the audiences but in his reviews Chris Harms tells that he likes to listen to all type of music genres apart from his own including pop music.  In fact the songs from Estonia and Israel were among his favourites.  In general Chris “The Lord” was very respectful giving his reviews to all of the artists even if he did not “immediately connect” with some of the songs.
