Albania: Festivali i Këngës 62 submissions will remain open until October 10!

The submissions for the 62nd edition of Festivali i Këngës, have opened almost three weeks ago, on the 1st of September.

Although the announcement did not include any deadline for the submissions, it was now confirmed that the deadline is set to be on the 10th of October. Until then, those interested can send their submissions on the following email address: festivali62@rtsh.al.

Albania has been utilizing Festivali i Këngës as a selection method since the country’s debut almost 20 years ago. So far, it is unknown whether the seperate jury-public vote winner method that was used last year, will also be implemented in this year’s edition, marking that the public will decide the Albanian representative in Malmö.

The 62nd edition of Festivali i Këngës is expected to take place in late December, when we will know who will be the successor of Albina and Familja Kelmendi.

Germany: The first artists who have expressed interest in representing the nation in Malmö!

Will “The German Finale 2024” the national final for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, in Malmö feature a significant reunion of the “Our Song for Liverpool” contestants from the previous year? The chance is real, as five (out of 14) participants who ran for German representation last year intend to run again in 2024. The first new names are already being circulated.

Melissa Mantzoukis

Melissa was not able to represent Greece this year in Eurovision, but she hopes to achieve it in 2024 with Germany. This time and according to our exclusive information, she has registered for “Das Deutsche Finale 2024“,  the national final which will be held by the country’s public television to select the artist and song that will represent the nation in Malmö. More exclusive Eurovisionfun information can be read here .

Betül

Betül intended to represent Germany in Liverpool with her song “Heaven”, she made it all the way to the TikTok vote and ended up in the 4th place. The singer and her team have already expressed interest in applying again. Except “Heaven”, Betül has so far created a stir in Germany, mostly because of her Turkish sound. Since Turkey is no longer participating in Eurovision, a Turkish sound or the choice of singing in Turkish will cause a sensation and might upset people.

From Fall To Spring

The group was defeated last year in the TikTok vote by Ikke Hipgold. This year, however, with “Draw the Line” they gained a lot of new fans in the Eurovision community. They even claimed in February that they were still interested in competing in Eurovision. The band has confirmed it once again and has already released the song with which they want to take part in “The German Finale 2024” next year. FFTS is likely to be among the favorites if selected for the national selection.

Ikke Hüftgold

ULFL runner-up Ikke Hipgold has already expressed his interest in re-entering the national selection, announcing last month that he would prefer to go to Eurovision representing Germany. His song is considered to be ready. He is currently storming the German charts with Vanessa Mai and their song “Igel”.

Mitchy and André Katawazi

Mitchy and André Katawazi have confirmed that they want to take part in the German National Selection again next year and are already working on new music.

Will Church

It has been known for some time that the runner-up and jury winner in “Our Song for Liverpool” Will Church , also wants to try again. He shared it on his YouTube account in May. Therefore, we can assume that he will apply for “The German Finale 2024”.

Basti Schmidt

“FameMaker” winner and “The Voice of Germany” finalist Basti’s interest for Eurovision is yet to be confirmed. There seems to be some interest for the upcoming contest, as he attended a songwriting camp in Norway along with JOWST, EMMY and the Norwegian head of delegation Stig Karlsen. Basti also recently released a new single, “Forevermore”.

These are the first names, which are most likely to set an official participation for the representation of Germany. We now have to wait for the official announcements so we can see who will be the successor of Lord of the Lost!

Sweden: Malmö’s Eurovision 2024 budget is set at 30 million SEK!

With less than 8 months to go until Eurovision 2024, the planning has gradually began in Malmö, the host city.

According to Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh, the Head of the Malmö Municipality Board, the city of Malmö intends to invest 30 million SEK (or roughly 2,5 million euros) to host the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest.

The Malmö Municipality’s investment for Eurovision 2024 has increased by 5 million SEK compared to 2013, when the budget for the contest was 25 million SEK (about 2,1 million euros). However, the tourism industry brought in an amazing 185 million SEK (about 15,5 million euros) in 2013.

However, it will be a less expensive organization than the one in 2016, which was held in Stockholm. In Stockholm, 100 million SEK were invested in the event’s organization, with half of that heading toward renovations and arena-related costs.

Obviously, 30 million SEK will not be the only source of funding for Eurovision 2024. The contribution of the SVT has yet to be declared.

Malmö may be a less expensive option for Sweden when compared to Stockholm. Sweden’s 2024 goal may be the same as in 2013, “less is more.” This rationale will help cut delegation costs by creating good presentations on a lower budget, which is a great motivation for smaller countries, especially during a worldwide energy crisis.

Loreen brought Eurovision 2024 back to Sweden and once again back to Malmö after her second win in Liverpool, the past May with her song “Tattoo”.

Georgia: Participation in Eurovision 2024 confirmed!

Georgia is the next country to confirm their participation in Malmö in 2024.

GPB, the national broadcaster of the country, confirmed today Georgia’s participation at the upcoming 2024 Eurovision Song Contest. There is no information yet regarding the method through which the next representative will emerge.

Until now Georgia has recorded a negative streak of 6 consecutive eliminations at the Semi-Finals. This year in Liverpool the nation was represented by Iru and the song Echo. Despite the high expectations for this entry, Georgia ended up 12th in the Second Semi-Final with 33 point and thus missed again a spot in the Grand Final.

Monaco: Will not return in Eurovision 2024!

The return of the Principality of Monaco to the competition has been a topic of discussion among fans of the Eurovision Song Contest following the launch of TVMonaco, the new Monegasque broadcaster, on September 1. It was confirmed a few days after TVMonaco began airing that the newly established network is a part of MMD (Monaco Media Difussion), an EBU member. As a result, TVMonaco is eligible to take part in Eurovision.

The rumors of Monaco’s potential comeback circulated online, leading some fans to conclude that 2024 will be the year of comebacks since Luxembourg will also make a comeback. Even well-known Monaco racing driver Charles Leclerc commented “I am ready” on an article about Monaco’s potential comeback.

2024 is not the time

Despite Monaco’s eligibility and enthusiasm and according to ESCToday, the Monegasque broadcaster has ruled out a return in Eurovision 2024.

No official explanation is provided, although the information given to Monaco-Matin refers to the short timeframe. The topic of taking part in Eurovision has not been addressed during those two weeks of operation and considering that today, September 15, is the deadline for submitting applications for the 2024 contest, the schedule was indeed tight.

Although the Principality of Monaco won’t compete in Eurovision 2024, a comeback in the following years is not necessarily ruled out.

North Macedonia: Are they returning to the contest in 2024?

After a year’s absence, North Macedonia looks ready to return to the contest in 2024. After the broadcast of the contest in 2023 (even though they did not participate) but also their participation in Junior Eurovision 2023, it seems that they will also participate in Eurovision 2024.

As it became known, the amount of 1,500,000 Denars has been allocated to the proposed MRT budget for Eurovision and Junior Eurovision 2024. In addition, in a special paragraph, the Eurovision Song Contest is stated, which they have add to the column with music festivals!

The same paragraph was present in the proposed budgets of 2020, 2021 and 2022, but was removed in the proposed budget of 2023. Summarizing these facts we can be led to the conclusion that North Macedonia is returning to the Eurovision 2024, after their short abstention for the year 2023. It remains to be seen if they will officially confirm their participation in the next few days!

Until then let’s remember the country’s last participation which was in 2022! Andrea with the song “Circles” finished in 11th place in the second semi-final with 76 points.

Slovenia confirms Eurovision 2024 participation!

Slovenia has confirmed their participation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.

This news do not come as a big surprise after the great success in terms of viewership Eurovision 2023 had in Slovenia.  For instance, the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest this year was watched in Slovenia by more than 895,300 viewers.  Moreover, the Grand Final of this year’s Eurovision has become the most watched television show in the country in the last seven years representing an average of 55% of TV viewers at the time.  The performance of the Slovenian representatives, Joker Out, achieved the highest viewership, when TV SLO 1 got an average 23.2% or 443,500 viewers.

EMA or internal selection

However, it is not clear at this point what will be the selection process for Slovenia’s next representative in Malmö.  As many fans will remember, Joker Out were internally selected.  They gave Slovenia their first pass to the Grand Final since 2019.  Nevertheless it is still too early to rule out another EMA selection because, among other things, the program and business plan for 2024 has not yet been adopted.
