Netherlands 2024: Anouk wanted to go to Eurovision again!

Anouk was ready to represent the Netherlands once again at the Eurovision Song Contest with a song from her upcoming album Deena & Jim.

However, she confirmed this will not be possible this time due to a schedule conflict between the promotion of her album and the Dutch selection process.

According to the 2013 representative,  Anouk approached to the Dutch selection committee.  In an interview to NU.nl she says she was not planning to return to Eurovision until she started working on  her new music.

“They have received a lot of entries this year and of course I cannot follow up. I understand that. The decision would not be made until sometime in December”

Anouk’s new album is set to be released on November.  According to the singer she would have to delay her album plans if she wanted to be considered by the Netherlands selection committee for Eurovision.  This option however is out  of the table for her record label, specially since she could not be sure she will end up being selected.   The Dutch representative will be announced on March 2024.

“I couldn’t arrive at my record company and say at the last minute: sorry, it won’t be until March. So unfortunately it didn’t happen, but it would have been a nice moment.”

Anouk represented the Netherland in Malmö at the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 with her song Birds.  She did not only qualified to the Grand Final but ended up in 9th place.  This was the best score from the Netherlands after an 8 years non-qualifying streak.

Netherlands: Douwe Bob has submitted two entries for Eurovision 2024!

The Netherlands has confirmed its 2024 participation and furthermore has initiated its selection process, which will be, as usual, internal. Interested artists were invited to submit their entries back in July with the submission window closing a few days ago. A record of more than 600 songs it is known to be submitted and at a later stage reviewed by a professional jury, which will select the next Dutch act.

Douwe Bob’s involvement in the selection process was first rumored in July. Now, it is confirmed that the ex-Dutch participant from 2016 is the co-writer of Numidia’s submitted song for Eurovision 2024. Numidia is a 24 years-old Dutch-Moroccan artist, who is best known for participating in The Voice of Kids, reaching the finals as well as in Best Zangers, where she was a co-participant of Douwe Bob.

Douwe Bob seems really excited about the song he co-wrote, mentioning that:

The song is in English but it also features the Berber language. The song is about connecting and looking beyond what we are taught. It’s a very connecting song. Open your eyes and we are all one, that’s the main message.

Meanwhile, it is reported that Douwe Bob has also submitted an entry himself, which indicates a possible Eurovision return as a singer. However, Douwe Bob said he would be prepared to withdraw his entry if it meant that Numidia could travel to Malmö.

Douwe Bob represented The Netherlands in Eurovision 2016 with his song “Slow Down“, finishing in the 11th place.

The Netherlands: More than 600 songs submitted for Eurovision 2024!

The submission deadline for the Dutch internal selection for Eurovision 2024 has expired, as we informed you in yesterday’s article. Over 600 songs have been submitted, a record number for the country, according to Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen, the chairman of the committee responsible for choosing the Dutch entry.

He noted that the genres of these songs are varied. Dance, rock, hip-hop, R&B, and even operatic songs are included. The majority of the songs are sung in English, but some of them also have lyrics in French, Arabic, Turkish, Spanish, and Italian, among other languages.

Finally, Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen expressed his optimism about this year’s participation:

“I have a lot of confidence in finding the right song and artist this year”.

Tim Douwsma, Numidia, Joost & Donnie, and Stefania are some of the artists that might submit a proposal to represent the Netherlands.

Last year, Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper represented the Netherlands with the song “Burning Daylight”. The entry placed 13th in the semifinals, marking the country’s first elimination since 2015.

Stefania is in the studio, working on a special project!

Stefania posted an enigmatic Instagram story earlier today with the caption, “This is something special”. Through the story she revealed that she is working in the studio alongside the Dutch lyricist Anna Rose Clayton and the Greek composer Dimitris Kontopoulos.

Is it about Eurovision?

Stefania’s name is reportedly among those who will take part in the internal selection process of the Dutch public television for Eurovision 2024, according to information published in the Dutch media this summer.

Given that the 30th of September is the deadline for submissions, it is possible that the song or songs Stefania is now recording in the Netherlands have something to do with her candidacy to represent the country in the 68th Eurovision Song Contest.

Stefania represented Greece in Eurovision 2021 and brought her country back to the top 10 after eight years, with Last Dance, a song signed by Dimitris Kontopoulos.

Along with Dimitris Kontopoulos, Ilias Kokotos, the project manager for all of the Dream Team entries in the competition, is also in the Netherlands this time.

It might simply be a new song

Of course, none of the aforementioned scenarios are guaranteed to occur, and it may just be Stefania working on a new song or undertaking something similar to her past work on the Dutch national football team’s anthem.

Furthermore, Stefania and Dimitris Kontopoulos have worked together on a few occasions even after Eurovision, so it is not surprising that they will release another song together, this time for the Dutch market, as they are currently in the Netherlands for the recording process with a local lyricist.

What this recording is intended for will eventually become clear, and Eurovisionfun certainly will have more information soon!
