Sweden: Maria Sur is now the big favorite to win Melodifestivalen 2023! | Loreen drops to second place, according to the odds!

We are halfway through the Melodifestivalen 2023 shows and not long after the Second Heat, when Maria Sur with the song “Never Give Up” won the first voting round and directly qualified to the finals.

The bets

Over the last few days, Maria Sur was struggling to surpass Loreen in betting odds, as the latter was the absolute favourite even before Loreen’s song “Tattoo” got published. But this seems to just have come to an end.

A few moments ago, Maria Sur, the Ukrainian contestant of this year’s Melodifestivalen, seems to have impressed not only the Swedish public who generously cast their vote by sending her directly in Stockholm and Friends Arena, to compete in the final of March the 11th, but also the betting companies, which now consider her the first favorite to win and represent Sweden this year.

Loreen has now dropped to second place with odds starting at 2.5 and reaching 2.3. In third and fourth place we see Jon Henrik Fjällgren, Arc North feat. Adam Woods and Marcus & Martinus respectively. Kiana is predicted to place fifth and Tone Sekelius sixth.

The betting odds depend on many factors and as these factors are subject to changes anytime, the odds can still fluctuate, even last minute.

Let’s see what is going to happen, when we will get the chance to watch the actual shows live, on SVT and SVT Play. Of course at EurovisionFun you will get the chance to be informed about the results as soon as they are announced on TV!

Sweden: The lyrics of the songs competing at the third heat of Melodifestivalen 2023!

Melodifestivalen 2023 next show is on the forthcoming Saturday, February the 18th! The third heat of the national selection process of Sweden, will take place at Sparbanken Arena in Lidköping.

A while ago, SVT, the Swedish national broadcaster released the lyrics of all seven competing songs, of the third heat.

Jesper Rönndahl and Farah Abadi will present Melodifestivalen 2023. The heats are following the touring concept again, after SVT had pulled back last year due to health restrictions in Sweden, with the finals being held at Friends Arena!

With the next show of the contest on Saturday February the 18th, Melodifestivalen will take place in Lidköping, then Malmö and Örnsköldsvik follow and finally the final show in Stockholm on the 11th of March.

The detailed schedule of Melodifestivalen 2023 is described below:

Sweden: The Second Melodifestivalen 2023 Heat had the lowest TV ratings since 2006!

SVT saw almost a massive 65.000 viewer-decrease in ratings compared to the 1st Heat and a drop of over 100.000 viewers compared to last year’s show. That led to SVT getting a total of 2.731.000 viewers for last week’s show, however, MMS has not revealed the viewing share for this heat.

That means that last week’s show figures were the third lowest rating numbers for a Melodifestivalen Second Heat of all time. The last time there were lower ratings was back in 2006 when the show was in parallel with the Winter Olympics held in Turin, Italy.

Estonia: Alika lead all rounds of Eesti Laul!

Alika won Eesti Laul 2023 and will represent Estonia in the Eurovision Song Contest.  However, with the available results we can say that she dominated Eesti Laul since the beginning.  The singer of “Bridges” received the most  votes in all rounds of Eesti Laul. “Bridges” was also ranked first in the ranking of the international jury.

Alika received 13,141 votes for the Grand Final on Saturday.  That was more than enough to be in first place.  Runner-up Ollie received 10,280 votes and Bedwetters received 7,991 votes. The results were similar on the first round of voting for the final: Alika (8,514 votes), Ollie (6,832 votes) and Bedwetters (4,685 votes).

Janek ended in fourth place (3051 votes) and Meelik in fifth (3048 votes).  The places changed after adding  jury’s points.  The top five of the international jury were respectively: Alika, Bedwetters, Ollie, Meelik and Sissi.

Moreover Alika won her semi-final by a landslide.  She received 4364 votes, followed by Elysa (1464 votes) and Inger (918 votes). Alika, Sissi, Inger and Meelik topped the second semi-final according to the results of the public and the jury. In the additional voting round of the second semi-final, M Els advanced with 872 votes, followed by Elysa (731 votes) and Carlos Ukareda (633 votes).

Ollie got the highest result in the first Semi-final from the jury and in the tele-vote (1397 votes).  Bedwetters came in second place (1335 votes) in both the televote and the jury.   Following, Anett x Fredi got the third place, and Andreas reached the final in fourth place. In the first round of voting, Mia received the third highest voting from the public (1326 votes). In the second round of voting, Janek won with 1,535 votes, followed by Ellip (971 votes) and Merlyn (497 votes).

For the first time in Eesti Laul, people could vote for two more songs in the final. Mia (1502 votes) and Elysa (1419 votes) advanced to the final thanks to the additional voting. They were followed by Wiiralt (1064 votes), Merlyn (1058 votes) and Ellip (851 votes).

Cyprus: The surprise with Andrew Lambrou’s stage presentation in Liverpool!

Andrew Lambrou is in Athens, where together with the Cypriot delegation, as well as the PANIK Records team, he is in feverish preparations ahead of his participation in Eurovision 2023.

Eurovisionfun got in touch with the people of the Cypriot delegation and we bring you all the latest information. First let’s say that the main reason for Andrew Lambrou’s visit to Athens is the filming of the video clip. While the initial plans wanted RIK to release the Cypriot entry at the end of January, the presidential elections moved any developments back a bit. So, in the next period of time, the filming of the video clip will take place, which according to our information will include both exterior and interior shots.

The director of the video clip will be Giorgos Benioudakis, who has to his credit many collaborations with almost all the popular Greek artists (A. Rammos, K. Argyros, L. Giorkas, S. Rokkos, Claudia, El. Foureira, etc. .).

The surprise with the stage presentation

The surprise held by the Cypriot delegation and coming to turn things around quite a bit are the persons who will be responsible for Andrew Lambrou’s stage presentation in Liverpool.

What we already knew is that this year Marvin Dietmann has taken over as the artistic director of the Cypriot participation for a third time in a row. But the twist we are talking about above is that this time he will not be alone.

Andrew Lambrou’s stage presentation at the M&S Bank Arena will be curated by both Marvin Dietmann and Ross Nicholson from London’s world-renowned directing team, Black Skull!

This group took on directing very large projects and great artists. One of her last jobs was Marco Mengoni’s concert at San Siro, the biggest concert venue in Italy!

When will we hear the song?

At the end of February, the suspense ends, since RIK and PANIK Records plan to publicize this year’s Cypriot song with the simultaneous release of the video clip.

The Cypriot participation hopes for a good result in this year’s contest, while slowly the country is gaining ground in the betting table, which they hope will continue even after the release of the song.

Today at the offices of PANIK Records we had the first meeting of the two representatives of Greece and Cyprus in the Eurovision contest, since for the first time since 2018 the artists representing the two countries belong to the same record label.

Finland: The running order of UMK 2023!

A few minutes ago Finland‘s national broadcaster Yle announced the line-up of artists who will compete for the ticket to Liverpool and Finland’s representation at Eurovision 2023.

The running order of the 7 artists who will compete in the UMK 2023 final is as follows:

  1. Robin Packalen – “Girls Like You“
  2. KUUMMA – “Ylivoimainen” (Overpowered)
  3. Käärijä  – “Cha Cha Cha“
  4. Keira – “No Business on the Dancefloor“
  5. Benjamin – “Hoida mut” (Take care of me)
  6. Lxandra – “Something to Lose“
  7. Portion Boys – “Samaa taivasta katsotaan” (We look at the same sky)

Yle also revealed some information about the commentary of UMK 2023. There will be commentary in eight different languages (Finnish, Swedish, English, English, Russian, Northern Sami and Inari Sami), sign language commentary provided by Miguel Peltomaa and for the first time there will be commentary in Ukrainian provided by Galyna Sergeyeva.

UMK executive producer Anssi Autio confirmed that two international broadcasts of UMK 2023 will be available, one from Spanish Ten TV and one from Dutch OUTtv.

The national final is scheduled to take place on February 25th. UMK 2023 will be held in Turku with Samu Haber as the host, while the winner and Finland’s representative at Eurovision 2023 will be determined 25% by the international jury voting and 75% by the public vote.

Italy: The detailed results of Sanremo 2023

After the Grand Final of  Sanremo 2023 and the victory of Marco Mengoni, the detailed results for all the nights of the Festival have been published.

On the third night when we heard the 28 songs for the second time – the TV audience and the polling committee voted, where Ultimo was ranked first. The television audience had him first with a percentage of 18.83%, while the polling committee ranked him only 11th. The difference was also big for Giorgia, whom the polling committee had in 6th place, while the public only in 12th. Elodie did not impress the audience and was ranked 13th. Finally, LDA who was 9th in the audience, came 22nd in the panel. All this resulted in the two singers losing several places in the general ranking and LDA rising quite a bit.

On the night of the duets, a panel of polls and a panel of journalists gave first place to Giorgia. The audience, however, had a different opinion, ranking her 4th. Elodie also did better in the committees compared to the public. Mr Rain who came 5th in the audience was only 25th in the panel of journalists. Ariete was in last place on both committees, while in the TV audience she finished 7th.

As for the night of the final it seems that the TV audience was the one who deprived Giorgia of a place in the super final by ranking her 9th in the first round of voting. In the super final Marco Mengoni came first in both the TV audience and the committees, while Ultimo was second in the audience and last in the journalists’ committee.

Overall, the TV audience was most supportive of:

  • Ariete
  • LDA

And cast more of them:

  • Giorgia
  • Elodie
  • Colapesce Dimartino
  • Coma_Cose
  • Paola and Chiara
  • Leo Gassmann

Overall, the winner Marco Mengoni was favored by both the TV audience and the committees, something very important for a good result at the Sanremo Festival. Two other artists who achieved this were Lazza and Tananai.

Marco Mengoni has confirmed his participation in Eurovision 2023, now it remains to be seen whether he will go with Due Vite or change his song.
